Train Derailment Causes Massive Fire, Partial Bridge Collapse In Arizona

A freight train derailed in Arizona on Wednesday causing a massive fire and the collapse of a bridge more than 100 years old.

Tim McMahan, a Union Pacific Railroad spokesman, said the train derailed at about 6:15 a.m. while crossing the bridge as eight to 10 cars caught fire and the bridge’s south side collapsed. The train crew was uninjured but one person was treated for smoke inhalation and no deaths have been reported, Tempe Mayor Corey Woods and police Chief Sylvia Moir said.

More than 90 firefighters were sent to the scene along with hazardous materials crews as lumber being carried on the line caught fire in the blaze. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the case.

‘The Kissing Booth 3’ Will Hit Netflix Next Year

tmpf9595aa2-be94-46e7-90bd-d9d752ec314d-jpg

Just days after “The Kissing Booth 2” debuted on Netflix, the streaming service has announced a third installment coming in 2021, which has already been filmed.

The original “Kissing Booth,” directed by Vince Marcello and released in May 2018, told the story of high school student Elle Evans (Joey King), who falls in love with her best friend’s older brother, Noah Flynn, played by Jacob Elordi. The sequel sees their long-distance relationship tested as Noah heads off to college and Elle navigates the challenges of her senior year in high school.

Joey King, Joel Courtney, Taylor Zakhar Perez, Maisie Richardson-Sellers and Meganne Young announce that they are reprising their roles in the third film. King was also executive producer on the second movie.  Courtney said “The Kissing Booth 3” was filmed in secret at the same time as “The Kissing Booth 2” and is already in post-production. King added that filming both movies at the same time “was the hardest secret to keep ever.”

Netflix released a teaser trailer for part three which you can view at the link: here.

FOLLOWING A UNIQUE FINISH TO HIGH SCHOOL CAREER, CLASS OF 2020 ALSO GETS A UNIQUE MURAL

class-mural

Each year the graduating class at Crookston High School gets a mural painted to commemorate their graduation. Typically, members of the senior class design and paint the mural, but this year went a little differently.

Crookston Art Teacher Gary Stegman said that because of COVID-19, he ended up painting the mural, and the students signed it while back in the building for graduation activities last week. “What happens usually is the senior mural is done by seniors,” said Stegman. “They plan it and do it in every way, shape, and form. We like to say they get it done earlier in the year, but that’s not always true, so sometimes it runs into the spring. The kids were working on a plan to make fish scales and distribute them to the kids. All of a sudden, COVID happened, the kids went home, and they lost their mural, among other things. There were some attempts made by the students, parents, faculty, and a variety of people to see if we couldn’t get this thing put together. I ended up painting in myself in July, and then Jen Solie had the kids sign it after rehearsal on Friday.”

Initially, the murals around the media center in the high school would get painted over. However, over time, the school stopped replacing murals and kept them up, making each year’s mural an ongoing part of the school said, Stegman. “In the media center, there are four angled walls around the media center,” said Stegman. “The idea was that the senior mural would get painted on that wall, and every four years it would get painted over. That was the idea, and the reasons we were thinking about that was some schools, Detroit Lakes, for instance, only have one mural, and they paint over it every year. But then as different administrators came in over the years, the murals have become a permanent part of the school, so I don’t think it’s going anywhere.”

The Class of 2020 mural is located down the hallway to the music department explains Stegman. “If you were to come in the front doors of the schools and turn left toward the auditorium, the hallway that heads toward the music department, it’s just down that hall,” said Stegman. “The Class of 2017 has a mural there, and then the mural we’re discussing now would be the next one. It’s just 20-30 feet from the auditorium entry.”

MINNESOTA REPORTS 9 COVID-19 DEATHS, 681 NEW CASES, 3 IN POLK COUNTY

2labgraph-62

The Minnesota Department of Health is reporting 681 new cases of COVID-19 and 9 deaths. Three new cases were reported in Polk County bringing the total number of cases in the county to 121. An update on the numbers is scheduled from Polk County Public Health Thursday after they were unable to provide an update last week due to technical difficulties with connecting to the database. All the numbers are below –

Updated July 29, 2020
Updated daily at 11 a.m., with data current as of 4 p.m. the previous day.

Data is for cases that were tested and returned positive. All data is preliminary and may change as cases are investigated. Many data points are collected during case interviews. Data presented below is for all cases, regardless of interview status. Data for cases pending interview may be listed as “unknown/missing.”

Not all suspected cases of COVID-19 are tested, so this data is not representative of the total number of people in Minnesota who have or had COVID-19. Cumulative numbers are since Jan. 20, 2020.

Daily Update:

Because all data is preliminary, the change in number of cumulative positive cases and deaths from one day to the next may not equal the newly reported cases or deaths.
