President Trump Returns To White House After Being Discharge From Hospital Due To COVID-19 Diagnosis

President Trump was discharged from Walter Reed National Military Medical Center on Monday, and returned to the White House after being treated for COVID-19 over the past three days. Trump left the hospital in Bethesda, Md., at around 6:40 p.m. Monday evening wearing a mask, while flashing a thumbs up and a balled fist to cameras before entering a motorcade for a brief drive to board a Marine One flight back to Washington, D.C.  Before emerging from the hospital, the president tweeted that he would “be back on the campaign trail soon!” In a video message shared to his Twitter account Monday night, Trump thanked the staff at Walter Reed and again urged Americans not to fear the virus.

Trump’s medical team said he had met the requirements for discharge, however his physician Dr. Sean Conley did note that the president “may not entirely be out of the woods yet,” adding that the White House medical unit could handle his ongoing treatment. Conley said Trump hadn’t had a fever for 72 hours and that there was no evidence of the presence of live coronavirus. Trump has received “medical management that is within national, clinical and societal guidelines,” said Jayson Blaylock, head doctor at Walter Reed.

Conley acknowledged that over the weekend the president’s oxygen levels had dropped twice, and that he’d been treated with the powerful steroid dexamethasone, which is recommended only for COVID-19 patients who need oxygen, including those on ventilators. Doctors say COVID-19 patients remain especially vulnerable to complications for as many as 10 days after their first symptoms, and Trump’s age and weight place him in a high-risk category.

Zendaya has signed on to star in a new biopic about Ronnie Spector. According to reports, the biopic will be based from Spector’s memoir, Be My Baby, and rumor has it that Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Jackie Sibblies Drury will write the film’s script.

Be My Baby, originally published in 1990, recounts Spector’s roller-coaster career as lead singer of the Ronettes, her emotionally abusive marriage to Phil Spector, and her resurgence as a solo singer. Zendaya was apparently handpicked by Spector herself, and both Zendaya and Spector will serve as producers on the project.

Zendaya made history last month by becoming the youngest woman to ever win the Emmy for Best Actress – Drama.

MINNESOTANS WILL HAVE NEW OPTION TO TAKE CLASS D LICENSE KNOWLEDGE TEST ONLINE

Prospective Minnesota drivers will soon have a new option to earn their class D learner’s permit. Beginning October 8, the knowledge test can be taken online at home with a parent, guardian, or adult (21 or older) proctoring the test. The test will also be available at authorized third-party testing locations.

As a result of legislation signed into law by Gov. Tim Walz, the Minnesota Department of Public Safety Driver and Vehicle Services division (DPS-DVS) will offer the class D knowledge test online beginning Oct. 8. That means Minnesotans have the option to take the test at home instead of scheduling an appointment to take the test at an open DVS exam station.

DVS is also expanding the in-person options for Minnesotans by developing a statewide network of certified entities like deputy registrars, high school driver education programs, and community organizations that will be certified by DVS to offer proctored class D permit test at their locations.

“Minnesotans, especially those living outside the Twin Cities, have been taking time out of their busy schedules to travel to regional exam stations for testing,” Minnesota Department of Public Safety Driver and Vehicle Services Director Emma Corrie said. “As we consider the colder weather months and continuing COVID concerns, an online knowledge test will allow Minnesotans to take the test at a convenient time in the comfort of their own home. This system will also expand the number of tests DPS-DVS can administer and reduce appointment wait times for those who want to take the test at an open exam station.”

While the class D knowledge test will be available online, other tests are only available at one of 14 regional DVS exam stations. Those knowledge tests include commercial, motorcycle, and DWI, and are available on a walk-in basis.

More information on the new online test is available below –

LETTER TO THE EDITOR THANKS CITY OF CROOKSTON FOR GRANTING UNITED WAY CARES ACT FUNDS

letter-to-the-editor

On behalf of the United Way of Crookston, I would like to take the opportunity to thank the City of Crookston for granting our organization a portion of the Care’s Act funds.

With the COVID-19 pandemic, we have had to change the way in which we conduct our business and our fundraising events. Unfortunately, we have had to cancel many of our signature events this year and this money will help us as we find new ways to reach our donors virtually.  You will see some of these new and exciting avenues in the near future to include a virtual video presentation that allows us to safely spread our message, participation in Giving Hearts Day, raising funds with an online auction, PayPal payment options and so much more.  We are dedicated to our agencies and to our community and because of this grant, we are able to work towards raising money to support those most in need in the Crookston area.

The United Way of Crookston enriches Crookston through various community programs, clubs, and agencies to support the people of Crookston and neighboring towns towards better health, education, and financial stability opportunities.  The COVID-19 pandemic has created a fundraising and financial hardship for our board, threatening our ability to continue to support the 18 different community efforts.  The pulse that the United Way of Crookston offers to the many lives it touches, one by one creates a stronger and healthier community for individuals and families to grow.

Thank you for helping support the United Way of Crookston.

NORTHWEST MINNESOTA FARMER URGES REPRESENTATIVE PETERSON, FCC TO PROTECT PRECISION AGRICULTURE

minnesot-soybean-growers

Ag industry leaders, including American Soybean Association Director and Minnesota farmer Jim Kukowski, joined Rep. Collin Peterson and other House Agriculture Committee members last week to discuss an issue threatening to derail precision agriculture, which Kukowski cites as one of the greatest technological advances on the farm in decades.

Peterson, chair of the House Ag Committee, and House Ag Committee Member Rep. Glenn “GT” Thompson (R-Pa.) participated in the discussion regarding the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) decision to allow Ligado Networks to operate a terrestrial wireless network and how it will threaten the reliability of GPS receivers used in precision agriculture.

Because growers rely upon precision technology so heavily, the prospect of GPS units not working is critical to every single soybean farmer.

“Our organization has been advocating for the soybean farmer for 100 years,” said Kukowski, a soy grower from Strathcona and chair of ASA’s Conservation and Precision Agriculture Committee. “The arrival of GPS to farms has been the biggest technical advancement the industry has ever seen. The fact that the FCC would threaten our farmers with such a misguided decision is incomprehensible.”

ASA also joined leading ag organizations representing farmers across the country this week in support of the Keep GPS Working Coalition, urging a reversal of the FCC’s Ligado decision.

SEMI PULLING WINDMILL BLADE TRYING TO GET THROUGH CROOKSTON

img_8876-150x113-1

A semi-truck hauling a large windmill blade on a trailer is attempting to make some tricky turns in downtown Crookston on Monday afternoon.

The truck, a white Peterbilt, is hauling a long blade from a wind turbine and initially attempted to make a sharp, 90-degree turn from the westbound lane of Robert Street onto the northbound lanes of Broadway Street in Crookston. The truck was then moved further east down U.S. Highway 2, shutting down traffic for a short time in both directions on Highway 2 from Washington Avenue to Fairfax Avenue, and also on Fairfax from Highway 2 to Washington. The roads have since been reopened. The turbine blade being pulled is 74 meters in length or 242 feet, so at least the length of an entire city block. The Crookston Police Department and Polk County Sheriff’s Office are on the scene, providing assistance and traffic control. We’ll have more information on this story as we get it.
