California Governor Newsom Introduces New Regional Stay-at-Home Order Amid Covid-19 Surge

tmp4b647edb-1cec-4d1d-b64e-c3dea6e7bac0-jpg

On Thursday, California Gov. Gavin Newsom introduced a new regional stay-at-home order, this coming just days after he said that most of the state’s intensive care beds could be over capacity within weeks amid a surge in coronavirus cases.

The order will be applied regionally, and will require bars, wineries, hair salons and other nonessential businesses across five areas to close for three weeks once the region’s intensive care capacity falls below 15 percent. Statewide travel will also be temporarily halted, but schools will remain open and the Governor encouraged people to visit parks and exercise. Restaurants can continue to serve takeout and delivery, he said.

Newsom said the effects of Thanksgiving travel and celebrations still haven’t been felt, and that residents should expect a “surge on top of a surge” in cases within weeks. “We really need to step up,” he said. “We need to do everything we can to stem the tide.”

California Bond Wildfire Forces Evacuations As It Burns Over 7,200 Acres

A wind-driven brush fire in Orange County, CA forced mandatory evacuations in the area as it burned through 7,200 acres by Thursday afternoon– and officials expect the fires to continue to burn through the weekend.

Dubbed the ‘Bond Fire,’ the wildfire began Wednesday night as a structure fire in the 29000 block of Silverado Canyon Drive, before strong winds pushed the blaze into nearby brush, which spread into the hills. Orange County Fire Authority tweeted video footage of firefighters battling the blaze from the air with an update showing it had grown from 3,643 acres in the morning to 7,200 acres with 0% contained.

The Bond Fire has prompted mandatory evacuations in Silverado Canyon, Williams Canyon, Modjeska Canyon, Foothill Ranch and Portola Hills.

“Real Housewives” Star Erika Jayne & Husband Tom Girardi Sued for Allegedly Using Divorce to Embezzle Money

tmp275504c8-2d60-4925-916f-2c3896ace5f3-jpg

Just one month after Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Erika Jayne filed for divorce from husband Tom Girardi, the couple has been sued for allegedly using their split to embezzle money.

According to a complaint filed in an Illinois federal court Wednesday, Erika and Tom are being sued by law firm Edelson PC on behalf of several families who lost loved ones in a Boeing plane crash. The documents detail how Tom and Erika allegedly embezzled settlement funds meant to help the families of victims on Lion Air Flight 610. The documents state: “Tom has resorted to embezzling the proceeds of settlements that should have been directed to his clients — including, as the basis for this Complaint, the widows and orphans who lost loved ones in the tragic crash of Lion Air Flight 610 — in order to continue funding his and Erika’s lavish Beverly Hills lifestyles.”

Tom’s law firm, Girardi & Keese (GK), is also named in the suit, which claims both Tom, 81, and the firm “are on the verge of financial collapse and locked in a downward spiral of mounting debts and dwindling funds.”

Erika filed for divorce from Tom, her husband of 21 years, on Nov. 3, saying in a statement: “After much consideration, I have decided to end my marriage to Tom Girardi. This is not a step taken lightly or easily. I have great love and respect for Tom and for our years and the lives we built together. It is my absolute wish to proceed through this process with respect and with the privacy that both Tom and I deserved,” she added. “I request others give us that privacy as well.”
