The Crookston Pirate Baseball team is 2-2 on the season suffering their first losses on Tuesday at home to Roseau, 11-0 and 13-1. Starting today and continuing tomorrow the Pirates will host the Jim Karn Baseball Classic with all games held at the Jim Karn Baseball Field in Crookston. The Pirates will play the last game tonight under the lights when they host Hillsboro/Central Valley, N.D. at 6:00 PM. Hillsboro/Central Valley Burro’s are 4-4 on the season breaking a three-game losing streak yesterday in an 8-3 win over Larimore, N.D. . The game tonight will be on KROX RADIO starting with the RiverView Health pre-game show starting right after the completion of the first game of Hillsboro/Central Valley and Red Lake County. It will also be on the internet by going to the LISTEN LIVE link at the top of this page.
The Crookston Boy’s Golf team will play at the Fergus Falls Invitational today in what has been reduced to a one day meet! Crookston is coming off a third place finish in their own Pirate Invitational on Monday at Crookston’s Minakwa Golf Club. Today’s meet will be at the Pebble Lake Golf Course and it’s supposed to be off about 9:30 AM.
The Crookston Pirate Girl’s Golf team continues to improve each week and they hope to continue that again today when they play at the Bemidji Invitational at the Bemidji Town and Country Golf Club. The Pirates are coming off a third place finish at the Roseau Invitational on Tuesday. The Town and Country Golf Course is a good tune up for many of the schools including Crookston as it’s the site of the Section 8AA Meet on June 7 and 8, so particularly the younger golfers getting a taste of what the course is like. The meet today starts at 9:30 AM.
The Red Lake County Rebels will open up the Jim Karn Baseball Classic this afternoon when they play the Hillsboro/Central Valley Burros at the Jim Karn Baseball Field in Crookston. Red Lake County is 3-2 on the season after beating West Marshall 4-3 on Tuesday on the road. Hillsboro/Central Valley comes in with a 4-4 mark stopping a three game losing streak beating Larimore 8-3 yesterday.
The game will start at 4:00 PM and it will be on KROX RADIO starting with the RiverView Health pre-game show at 3:30 PM and also on the world wide web by going to the LISTEN LIVE link at the top of this page.
The Crookston Pirate Girl’s Fast Pitch Softball team has played three games this week and have lost them all and are now 0-6 after a 14-1 loss at Thief River Falls yesterday. The Pirates will wrap up the week hosting Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal this afternoon in Crookston. The Titans are 1-2 on the year with a number of postponements and coming off a 16-6 loss to Lake Park-Audubon on Tuesday. Game time is 4:30 PM at the Donnie Lauf/American Legion Softball Fields.
American Crystal Sugar is proud to award the Crookston Youth Foundation a check for $5,000. This will help keep their doors to the Youth Foundation open and get it up and running again as it had been closed due to Covid-19. These funds will be used to help support their mission. This organization has missed out on several fundraising opportunities which helps keeps the Cove operational, specifically, their Crepes and Ice Cream fundraisers.

Two sheriff’s deputies were among the five people killed after a lengthy standoff in northwestern North Carolina. Officials said the standoff began on Wednesday when deputies performed a welfare check at a Boone, N.C., home after the owner and family members failed to show up for work and didn’t answer phone calls.
The Watauga County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement: “Deputies entered the residence after discovering all vehicles belonging to the residents were on the property. Upon entering the home, two Watauga County Sheriff’s deputies received gunshot wounds from an unknown individual within the residence.”
The standoff continued for 13 hours until the gunfire eventually stopped and deputies found the shooter and his parents dead inside the home. Authorities didn’t immediately identify the shooter or his parents or say how they died.
North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper tweeted: “These horrific shootings that claimed the lives of loved ones show the ever-present danger law enforcement can encounter in the line of duty. I have talked with Sheriff Len Hagaman to offer condolences and additional assistance.”
Prosecutors announced Thursday that eight people were indicted by an Ohio grand jury in connection with the death of a Bowling Green State University student who died from alcohol poisoning after attending a fraternity party.
Wood County Prosecuting Attorney Paul Dobson said the eight men attended a Pi Kappa Alpha party March 4 at an off-campus house where Stone Foltz, 20, was required to attend as a new member. Foltz’s roommate found him unresponsive at their apartment that evening, and later died March 7 at Toledo Hospital from a fatal level of alcohol intoxication during a “hazing incident,” according to the Lucas County Coroner.
The eight men indicted face charges including involuntary manslaughter, reckless homicide, felony assault, obstructing justice, hazing and underage drinking. The most serious charges, first-degree manslaughter, carries a sentence up to 11 years in prison.

The new cast includes Whitney Peak (from Netflix’s ‘Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’) who will play Zoya, who has been described as similar to Dan Humphrey (Badgley) from the original series. Emily Alyn Lind (from ‘The Shining’s’ sequel) will portray Audrey, who dates Aki, played by Evan Mock. Audrey’s best friend is Julien, played by ‘Sacred Lies’ star Jordan Alexander.
