AMERICAN CRYSTAL SUGAR DONATES TO HELP BELTRAMI FIRE AND RESCUE PURCHASE EQUIPMENT

American Crystal Sugar is proud to award the Beltrami Fire and Rescue a check for $5,000 to help with the safety equipment purchases.  These funds will be used to purchase rescue flashlights, lights and mounts for fire helmets, gloves, new safety vests, and other safety equipment.

The Beltrami Fire and Rescue has 20 active members in their volunteer fire department.  They currently service 2 townships for fire and 3 townships for medical support.  In the past year they have been called to support Fertile, Crookston, Nielsville and Climax fire departments.

American Crystal is proud to support the Beltrami Fire and Rescue and hopes this grant will help to assist with keeping these 20 active volunteer members a little safer.

CROOKSTON ROTARY ANNOUNCES STUDENTS OF THE MONTH

The Crookston Rotary’s Students of the Month at Crookston High School for April and May are Easton Tangquist, Emma Boll, and Gabe Monteith. The University of Minnesota Crookston Student of the Month is Boyce Harr.

A bio on Harr is below –

UMC senior Boyce Harr grew up in Spearfish, South Dakota, and learned to love the outdoors and spend time with his family.

He was drawn to the University of Minnesota Crookston by the degree and was blessed with the opportunity to play football for the school gaining three years with a leadership position and honored with the NSIC All-Academic award for the fall semester of 2019.

His major is in Biology and Health Science, and his career goal is to build on clinical experiences and continue his path to attend medical school.

Both Boyce’s parents are college graduates, his father with a degree in Nursing and his mother has a Master’s degree in Education.

During his time at UMC, Boyce has been an undergrad research assistant, tutor, writing center professional, and head coach for the Sacred Heart Middle School football team. He was also in the Alpha Lambda Delta National Honors Society.  And has volunteered at the Villa St. Vincent, food bank, the University of North Dakota for events, UMC events, at Robotics Camp, and in the community.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here in this community and I look forward to giving back as much as I can,” said Harr.

CATHEDRAL SCHOOL FIRST GRADERS COLLECT GARBAGE TO CELEBRATE EARTH DAY

Cathedral School First Graders designed their own Trash Monster by recycling paper bags.  They took off around the school to collect garbage and do their part to be good stewards of the Earth.

TWO NEW COVID CASES IN POLK COUNTY; MN REPROTS 893 CONFIRMED CASES, 12 DEATHS

The Minnesota Department of Health is reporting 893 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, 195 probable cases from antigen testing, and 12 deaths. The confirmed cases were the result of 12,136 completed tests for a positive rate of 7.4 percent.

Polk and Mahnomen counties each had 2 confirmed cases, while Marshall and Norman counties had 1 confirmed case each.

CROOKSTON GIRL’S GOLF PARTICIPATES AT THE ROSEAU INVITATIONAL

The Crookston Pirate Girl’s Golf team has had only one meet so far this season and that was last weeks Pirate Invitational where they entered two squads and finished in a tie for second and fifth out of five teams competing that found Roseau winning the meet by 21 strokes over one of the Crookston teams and East Grand Forks. The Pirates and others will head to Roseau for the Rams Invitational at the Oakcrest Golf Course in Roseau with the event starting at 9:30 AM.

The Crookston Pirate Boy’s & Girl’s Track teams have had only one meet so far this spring and that was at the East Grand Forks Invitational where the girls won the meet and the boys finished fifth. The Pirates will host the Pirate Invitational this afternoon but AT the East Grand Forks track as Crookston doesn’t have a track that is suitable to host events!! The meet is expected to go off at 3:30 PM this afternoon.

CROOKSTON BASEBALL HOSTS ROSEAU IN A SECTION DOUBLEHEADER ON KROX

The Crookston Pirate Baseball team is off to a 2-0 start with some postponements mixed in their early schedule! Crookston has 10 run ruled their two opponents and outscored them 32-7! Today they will host a Section 8AA rival, the Roseau Rams in a doubleheader at the Jim Karn Baseball Field in Crookston. The Rams are 2-1 on the season with a pair of lopsided wins over Sacred Heart and Hibbing while losing to Warroad 10-7!. Game time is 4:00 PM and BOTH games will be on KROX RADIO starting at 3:30 PM with the RiverView Health pre-game show plus both are on the internet and can be heard around the country and world by going to the LISTEN LIVE link at the top of this page.

CROOKSTON SOFTBALL HOSTS WARROAD IN TWO GAMES

The Crookston Pirate Girl’s Softball team is 0-4 on the season, losing three in a Greenbush tournament and last Thursday a tough 7-6 loss in eight innings at Grand Forks Central (N.D.) with a couple postponements sprinkled in!! The Pirates will get two Section 8AA games in this afternoon/evening when they host the Warroad Warriors at the Donnie Lauf/American Legion Softball Field in Crookston. Warroad has a bunch of postponements so far but are 2-0 on the season with a 21-11 win over rival Roseau and a 9-7 win over the Northern Freeze. The doubleheader will start at 4:00 PM at the Lauf Softball Fields which are located behind the Highland School in Crookston.

The Northwest Regional Corrections Center announced the arrests of the following individuals:

Andrew Michael Raymond, 18 of Grand Forks, ND, for felony fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle. Released on personal recognizance.

Chais William Leach, 27 of Crookston, for felony criminal sexual abuse as a caregiver or staff against a vulnerable adult by sexual contact or penetration.

Stephanie Lee Votava, 34, for misdemeanor domestic assault.

Joshua Montrell Anderson, 36, for felony 3rd-degree possession of methamphetamine in a school, park, or public housing zone.

Eric Michael Baldwin, 35 of Grand Forks, for misdemeanor theft for taking, using, or transferring movable property without consent.

Jason Scott Brower, 40 of Halstad, for misdemeanor domestic assault.

Ian Michael Laurie, 39 of Crookston, for a misdemeanor traffic violation for possession of an open bottle. Released on personal recognizance.

Justin Wayne Hoss, 43 of Remer, for gross misdemeanor drugs possession of a schedule 5 controlled substance.
