Over the past year, despite the challenges of the pandemic, skilled care centers, and their staff have shown an incredible and steadfast commitment to caring for and ensuring the safety of their residents. That is why Benedictine Living Community Crookston is thrilled to celebrate their heroic staff, residents, and their loved ones during National Skilled Nursing Care Week (NSNCW) beginning on Mother’s Day, May 9, through Saturday, May 15.

This year’s theme, “Together through the Seasons,” honors the collaborative commitment of skilled nursing care facilities and their staff in providing compassionate, around-the-clock care to their residents during this unprecedented time.

Each day they will have staff wear fun colors, different themes for the different seasons we have here in Minnesota.

Monday –  Amanda from Healing Touch will offer hand massages to our residents. Carnival games with activities in the afternoon.

Tuesday – A virtual garden tour with snacks put together by the auxiliary along with some wine. Staff will be all dressed up in Hawaiian clothing while Nicole Volker, of culinary, will be grilling out for all of our amazing staff members.

Wednesday the little village daycare will have a kiddie parade with fall costumes or fall shirts. In the afternoon the residents will enjoy a Danish, spiked cider social, and music by Joe Schmitz. The Benedictine Community thanks the Irishman’s Shanty and Benedictine auxiliary.  Staff Blessing of the hands will be offered by Pastor Bill throughout the day.

Thursday is PJ Day! They will take in a Christmas movie, along with warming up with some yummy spiked hot chocolate. We will also be enjoying fresh popcorn popped by the activities team.

Friday is Benedictine Crookston spirit day, Amanda from healing touch will be back in-house.  They will have outdoor music and storytelling with Pastor Bill, golf cart rides, and snacks.

Benedictine Living Community Crookston takes pride in the collective effort and the amazing strength and dedication of all its staff who have worked tirelessly every day to care for our incredible residents.

U.S. to aid top fuel pipeline operator after cyberattack

Top U.S. fuel pipeline operator Colonial Pipeline will receive aid from the White House to help it recover from a ransomware attack that forced the company to shut a critical fuel network supplying populous eastern states. The attack has prompted calls from American lawmakers to strengthen protections for critical U.S. energy infrastructure from hacking attacks.

Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo said on Sunday that the pipeline fix was a top priority for the Biden administration and Washington was working to avoid more severe fuel supply disruptions by helping Colonial restart as quickly as possible its more than 5,500-mile (8,850 km) pipeline network from Texas to New Jersey.

Colonial said on Sunday its main fuel lines remain offline but some smaller lines between terminals and delivery points are now operational. Colonial transports roughly 2.5 million barrels per day of gasoline and other fuels from refiners on the Gulf Coast to consumers in the mid-Atlantic and southeastern United States. Neither Raimondo nor the company gave an estimate for a restart date.
