Apple TV+ shared a teaser and premiere date for Jon Stewart’s new late-night series ‘The Problem with Jon Stewart,’ set to debut on the streaming service this fall. The series marks Stewart’s first hosting gig since the Comedy Central late-night show The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, which he hosted from 1999 to 2015.

The teaser features close-up shots of Stewart dressing as he gets ready to go on air, with the camera zooming out to show the comedian seeing his face in a mirror – “Ahhh! What the hell happened to my face?” Stewart says before adding, “Why would I go back to a visual medium? I could have done a podcast.”

‘The Problem with Jon Stewart’ will premiere Sept. 30, with subsequent episodes to air every other week. Stewart will host and executive produce the series, which will also feature a companion podcast.

Elaine Welteroth leaving ‘The Talk’ after one season

34-year-old journalist and author Elaine Welteroth is leaving CBS’s ‘The Talk.’ Welteroth becomes the second co-host to exit ‘The Talk’ in as many weeks, following the Aug. 20 announcement that Carrie Ann Inaba would be departing the show after having taken an extended leave of absence. ‘The Talk’ now has three co-hosts at the moment: Sheryl Underwood, Amanda Kloots and the recently hired Jerry O’Connell.

Said Welteroth: “It is an absolute honor for anyone, but especially a young Black woman, to occupy space on-air where our perspectives are largely underrepresented. It was gratifying to be able to show up as my authentic self in front of a live national audience every day in a world as divided as ours and to stay true to myself and what I stand for. I came to The Talk to break out of my own echo chamber and to join a diverse cast in helping to bridge some of the divides in our world through conversation and empathy. I’m proud of how I represented myself and my community. But as I always say: When the music changes, so must your dance! I will miss my talented co-hosts and crew and I wish them the very best. Thanks to all those who tuned in every day. I’m excited to continue these necessary conversations in my work and to share my upcoming creative projects soon.”

The show’s executive producers said in a statement: “We wish Elaine all the best. We are grateful for her passion, enthusiasm, and insight she brought to the show daily. Her openness and meaningful conversations were attributes we admired and always appreciated.”

MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF REVENUE PROVIDES PROGRESS UPDATE ON TAX CODE CHANGES

mn-revenue-2

The Minnesota Department of Revenue continues to provide updates on tax code changes signed into law earlier this year and their progress in updating their systems. Below is their most recent update.

Minnesota tax code changes were signed into law on July 1, 2021. The changes relate to unemployment compensation, Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loan forgiveness, and other retroactive conformity provisions affecting tax years 2017 through 2020.

Revenue is committed to providing updates on the progress being made on updating our forms, developing, and testing our system, communicating to impacted taxpayers who need to amend their returns, and providing information on when refunds start going out to impacted taxpayers.

Below is the status of progress as of August 30, 2021:

  • Nearly 8,000 letters have been sent to individual taxpayers who will need to file an amended return to receive the UI and/or PPP loan forgiveness or take advantage of other provisions from the tax law change. Those receiving this letter should follow the instructions on the letter and file the amended return when they are ready.
  • Over 2,000 returns impacted by PPP changes filed at the corporate entity level have started to receive refunds. These will continue to go out into September. These returns make up a small fraction of the total amount of impacted returns, do not require system development and testing, and are processed manually.
  • Revenue completed the initial development phase of the system that will be needed to adjust over 540,000 tax returns and have moved on to the testing phase of this process. The uniqueness and timing of this type of system change makes it imperative that we get the development and testing parts of this process right so there aren’t mistakes that could result taxpayers missing out on the intended benefits or not getting the right refund amount. We will provide a timeframe for when these refunds will start going out once we’ve completed the testing process.
  • In late July, Revenue updated Minnesota tax forms for tax year 2020. If you have not yet filed a 2020 return, or filed for an extension, you may file using the updated forms to claim the recently passed unemployment and PPP loan forgiveness income exclusions and deductions, as well as other retroactive conformity provisions.
  • Revenue has posted near final 2021 Minnesota income and corporate tax forms on our website. Near final forms are drafts and should not be used to file returns. There may be additional changes to these forms, including sections that reference federal tax forms. These near final forms are for reference only.
