The University of Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagles Women’s Basketball team did not get a game with the University of Upper Iowa last night because of Covid Protocol in Upper Iowa’s camp, so with another day of rest, the Golden Eagles will host Winona State later this afternoon in Crookston. The Golden Eagles are trying to break a nine game losing streak that has put them at 1-13 overall and 0-8 in the Northern Sun Conference. Their opponent today, Winona State Warriors are coming off a 75-60 loss at Bemidji State last night and are now 6-7 overall and 3-6 in the conference. Game time is 5:30 PM this afternoon at the Gary Senske Gym in Lysaker Gymnasium in Crookston and it will be on KROX RADIO about a half hour after the Men’s game. The University of Minnesota Crookston (UMC) Men’s Basketball team lost a 74-63 game to Upper Iowa University last night in Crookston. With the loss, it was UMC’s eighth loss in a row and they are now 4-11 overall and 1-8 in the Northern Sun Conference. The Golden Eagles come back this afternoon and try to salvage a split on the weekend when they host Winona State who picked up a 79-74 win last night at Bemidji State and the Warriors are now 8-4 overall and 4-3 in the conference.  Game time is 3:30 PM and it will be joined in progress on KROX RADIO after the Crookston/Roseau girls hockey game which started at 2:00 PM. The Crookston Pirate Girl’s Basketball team surely remembers the Barnesville Trojans, the team that beat the Pirates 54-46 in the second round of the Section 8AA tournament that was played in Crookston!!! Barnesville also beat the Pirates in Crookston during the regular season 54-51 last year.  That will all have to wait, as this afternoons games has been postponed!!! No make up date has been set as of yet.

So, the Pirates who have been off for 10 days after winning the Fergus Falls Tournament with a nice one point win over Fergus Falls and handling Watertown-Mayer in the championship and they are now 6-2. Barnesville is 6-3 after beating East Grand Forks 53-28 on Thursday night. The Trojans lost to the North Dakota Class B top ranked team Kindred 70-61, lost to Perham 67-66 and lost to Class AAAA Waconia 73-66 in the Perham Tournament. The Crookston Pirate Girl’s Hockey team has not had much game time as they have been off for nearly three weeks with postponements and the holiday break. Although they’ve been practicing, in some ways it will be like starting all over when they visit the Roseau Rams this afternoon. Crookston is 6-4-1 on the year while the Roseau Rams who play in Section 8AA are 10-4 on the year after two wins this week over Section 8A opponents, 5-0 over Thief River Falls on Tuesday and 4-0 Thursday night over East Grand Forks both at home, so it will be three Section 8A teams in a row for the Rams when Roseau and Crookston meet. Since Roseau doesn’t field a JV team, the varsity game will start at 2:00 PM at the Roseau Rams Center and will be on KROX RADIO starting with the RiverView Health pre-game show at 1:30 PM and the internet by going to the LISTEN LIVE link at the top of this page.

The University of Minnesota Crookston (UMC) Men’s Basketball team looks to turn things around in 2022 and break a seven game losing streak when they host Upper Iowa University tonight in the first game of a Northern Sun Conference weekend. The Golden Eagles are 4-10 and 1-7 in the conference which puts them in last place in the Northern Division. Upper Iowa is having a tremendous season so far as the Peacocks are 12-2 on the season and 6-2 in the conference which is the second best record in the entire conference behind unbeaten Minnesota-Duluth.  Game time is 5:30 PM and it will be on KROX RADIO starting with the RiverView Health pre-game show at 5:00 PM and on the internet by going to the LISTEN LIVE link at the top of this page.

The Crookston Pirates came up with a 7-4 win at Park Rapids last night, their first of the season. Can the Pirates make it two in a row? They will host Thief River Falls playing the Prowlers for the second time this season and it’s a makeup from Tuesday’s night postponement. The Pirates are 1-8-1 on the year and Thief River Falls coming in with a 3-7 record after losing 6-5 at East Grand Forks last night.  The Prowlers beat Crookston 10-1 in Thief River Falls three weeks ago. The Crookston Pirate Boy’s Basketball  unit  has been off for just over a week after a couple games over the holidays in which they split, beating Roseau by 20 with drilling some threes during the game and the opposite a couple days later when Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal did the same to them with a number of three point shots and the Titans winning 65-43 to put the Pirates at 2-6. East Grand Forks is 4-3 on the season and after a postponement on Tuesday have been off for nine days when they beat Pine River-Backus 70-55 for third place in the Fergus Falls Tournament.
