Paul Pelosi, the husband of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, was arrested in California over the weekend and charged with drunken driving. The Napa County Detention Center indicate that the 82-year-old Pelosi was arrested late Saturday on misdemeanor charges of driving under the influence and driving with a blood alcohol content level of 0.08 or higher, and was booked on $5,000 bond.

The arrest report also cited a collision report indicating Paul Pelosi was arrested after his 2021 Porsche was involved a two-car crash with a Jeep. No one was injured in the crash, according to the report. The California Highway Patrol told The San Francisco Chronicle that Pelosi’s vehicle was hit by the driver of the Jeep as Pelosi was attempting to cross a state highway in Napa.

Nancy Pelosi’s spokesperson Drew Hammill told CNN:  “The speaker will not be commenting on this private matter which occurred while she was on the East Coast.”  On Sunday, Nancy Pelosi received an honorary degree from Brown University in Providence, R.I., and delivered the commencement address to its graduating class. Monday, she gave remarks during a Memorial Day service at the San Francisco National Cemetery.

Paul and Nancy Pelosi have been married since 1963; he is the founder of San Francisco-based Financial Leasing Services.

‘Top Gun: Maverick’ earns record $156M over Memorial Day weekend

shutterstock_1884871585-2

Top Gun: Maverick holds the distinction of the best Memorial Day opening weekend of all time with projected three-day domestic earnings of $126.7 million, and $156 million for the four days. Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End was the previous record holder with $153 million.

Top Gun: Maverick’s opening weekend is the best for Tom Cruise, and is the first time he has had a film open to $100 million or more. The film debuted on Friday with earnings of $51.8 million, opening in more than 4,700 theaters in North America. Overseas, the film opened to $124 million from 62 markets, earning $248 million through Sunday and more than $280 million through Monday.

Directed by Joseph Kosinski, Top Gun: Maverick sees Cruise return as Capt. Pete “Maverick” Mitchell.  The film co-stars Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Glen Powell and Ed Harris, while Val Kilmer also makes a brief appearance as “Iceman,” Maverick’s onetime nemesis-turned-friend.

More than 70 percent of Top Gun 2‘s audience was over the age of 25, including 55 percent over age 35, and ticket buyers gave the film with an A+ CinemaScore.  The release of the long-awaited sequel to the iconic 1986 movie was delayed for two years due to the coronavirus pandemic. Cruise went on a global marketing tour in recent weeks, making stops at a world premiere in San Diego, the Cannes Film Festival, a Royal-sponsored screening in London and another premiere in Japan.

Johnny Depp gives surprise performance at Jeff Beck concert in the U.K.

shutterstock_320236643

Johnny Depp marked the end of his highly publicized seven-week defamation trial against ex-wife Amber Heard with a surprise appearance at a Jeff Beck concert at Sheffield City Hall in England on Sunday. The venue tweeted Monday: “Well … what a surprise we got last night when Johnny Depp joined ⁦@jeffbeckmusic⁩ on stage. Wishing @jeffbeckmusic⁩ good luck for the rest of his amazing tour and a big thank you to Johnny Depp for joining us!”

Numerous outlets and social media posts report that Depp and Beck performed together on a few covers, including Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Goin’ On” and John Lennon’s “Isolation.” Before becoming an actor, Depp had wanted to be a musician, and even testified at his recent trial about his early musical aspirations on the stand. Depp, along with musicians Alice Cooper and Joe Perry, formed the supergroup Hollywood Vampires in 2012

Depp and Heard have been in district court in Fairfax, Virginia since April 11. Depp is suing Heard for $50 million in damages over an op-ed she wrote that was published in The Washington Post in 2018, while she is countersuing him for $100 million.  The case went to the jury who began deliberation on Friday.

CROOKSTON VETERAN’S COUCIL HOLD MEMORIAL DAY CEREMONY AT OAKDALE CEMETARY AND SAMPSON STREET BRIDGE

002-560x420-1

The Crookston Veteran’s Council held their annual Memorial Day Programs in Crookston and other Counties around the area. KROX broadcast was at the services in Oakdale Cemetery and the Naval Ceremony at the Sampson Street Bridge.

Crookston Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Presiding Commander Jack Hanson was the main speaker for the Ceremony, with Chaplin Elaine Metzger and Deacon Dan Hanning for the Invocation. The Ceremony commenced its traditional reading of “In Flanders Fields” with it being read by Logan Melvie and Interim City Administrator Charles “Corky” Reynolds reading the Reply to “In Flanders Fields.” The Ceremony also recognized Polk County Service Officer Kurt Ellefson for his service in Iraq in 2006 and his post-service work and services as a Correction Officer in the Tri-County Community Corrections Center and as a Red Lake County and Polk County Service Officer. Ellefson gave a speech about what it meant to be a service member in the United States, the impacts wars had on all of its soldiers, and what their sacrifice means to us today. “Servicemembers have touched more than just the lives of their loved ones and friends. When their stories are shared in our neighborhoods, homes, schools, and places of worship, these men and women become a part of the collective identity of our hometown,” Ellefson said. “The stories of their sacrifices live on in the pride of the memories of their loved ones, at events, and through inscriptions on memorials and plaques dedicated to the legacy of their generation. Woven into the fabric of our country are those who died while wearing the cloth of our nation. They instill a sense of pride amongst the citizens. They inspire new generations to raise their hands in service. There’s no greater sacrifice than to offer one’s life for the greater good.” The Crookston Veteran’s Council members and representatives then decorated the Memorial Grave with flowers as tributes for their service and paid special remembrance to Jim Buckmiller, Kevin Boyle, and Leo Luettjohann for their part in past Memorial Day services and their services in the military and the Veteran’s Council. The Council then marched to the entrance of Oakdale Cemetery to raise the American flag to the top of its post. The Council then traveled to the Sampson Street Bridge to conduct the Naval Ceremony on the Bridge, where the Council representatives paid their tributes into the Red Lake River to honor those who died or are still lost at sea, with Scott Leven playing Taps at both Ceremonies.

The Crookston Memorial Band Ensemble provided music under the direction of George French and Caitlin Becks. Bill Rasmussen and Al Melvie led the Rifle Squad, with Hayden Winjum serving as the drummer for the Color Guard. Sr. Vice Commander Frank Lindgren and Jr. Vice Commander Paul Dubuque represented the Crookston Veterans Council. Sharon Lanctot represented the Crookston American Legion Post 20. Margee Keller represented the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary Chapter 14. Jim Urness was the Officer of the Day. Auxiliary Representative Pam DeLage represented the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1902. Autumn Hanson and Paula Lundgren represented Beyond the Yellow Ribbon.

We leave with a final message from Autumn Hanson and Paula Lundgren of the Beyond the Yellow Ribbon on Memorial Day. “Never forget what it means as Americans to persevere. Never forget the freedoms we cherish. Never forget our military family. Never forget the children waiting for mommy and daddy to come home,” Autumn Hanson said. “Never forget the parents who pray each day for their son’s and daughter’s safe return. Never forget all of those who served. Never forget our Veterans from all wars. Never forget to fly your flag. Never forget those that paid the ultimate price. Never forget,” Paula Lundgren said.

Pictures from the Oakdale Cemetery and Sampson’s Naval Ceremonies can be seen below.
