NEW N.T. AUTO REPAIR AND EXHAUST SHOP IS OPEN ON STRANDER AVE.

nt-auto-repair-and-exhaust-shop-e1678321508518481544

Crookston has a new Auto Repair shop in town at 525 Strander Ave., the former spot of Mike’s Muffler Stop, as Noah Thompson has bought the building to house his auto repair shop, NT Auto Repair and Exhaust.

Thompson originally worked owned a Repair Shop as a single bay in another shop in Fairfax, but after gaining a large enough customer base, he had been looking to find a bigger shop to service his customers.
“I’ve been working out of a different shop just off of Fairfax, where I had a single bay, and it got to the point where the customer base is getting big enough, and we’re looking to expand and get a bigger space to do my business and better serve the community here,” owner Noah Thompson explained. “I had heard through the grapevine that Mike (of Mike’s Muffler Stop) was thinking about retiring, so I met with him a few times. It went from there. We got a deal worked out, I bought the place, and we opened up on Saturday.”
Thompson will offer full mechanical repair to cars and trucks with his shop, ranging from brake repairs to oil changes and in-depth engine repair. The shop will also add a new service to its shop with exhaust repair with full custom bending.

With a new building at their disposal, Thompson has found it to be a better upgrade from his previous shop back in Fairfax. “We have quite a bit more room and a lot of space to park things,” said Thompson. “It’s all-around a way better upgrade, and I’m just trying to move forward with the business and better serve the community. We got a really nice welder, and it has a computerized exhaust machine for custom bending to make beautiful pipes.”

The shop will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. from Monday to Friday. If you need to schedule an appointment with Thompson to repair your car, you can call at 218-277-0070, message him on Facebook at www.facebook.com/ntautorepair?mibextid=ZbWKwL, or by coming into the shop at 525 Strander Ave. to schedule an appointment.

Judge blocks release of Tyre Nichols video as Justice Dept. launches probe of Memphis police

shutterstock_225506069726000

On Wednesday, a court order Wednesday delayed the release of about 20 hours of footage from the fatal beating of 29-year-old Tyre Nichols at the hands of Memphis police officers. A Memphis judge ruled nearly 20 hours of additional footage and internal documents related to the city’s investigation into the death of Nichols cannot be released until the lawyers for the five former Memphis police officers charged in his death have seen the new video. The delay came on the same day the U.S. Justice Department said it would review the Memphis Police Department and the use of specialized units within law enforcement in the wake of Nichols’ killing in January.

The court order read: “The court orders that the release of videos, audio, reports, and personnel files of City of Memphis employees related to this indictment and investigation (to include administrative hearings, records and related files) shall be delayed until such time as the state and the defendants have reviewed this information  The release of this information shall be subject to further orders of this court and, in the public interest, will be ordered as soon as possible.” Body camera footage released last month showed multiple officers beating, pepper spraying and using a stun gun on Nichols after a traffic stop and sparked protests in Memphis and around the country. Nichols died three days after the beating on Jan. 10.

The Justice Department also said on Wednesday that its Community Oriented Policing Services office will conduct a review of certain policies and practices by the Memphis police at the request of Mayor Jim Strickland and Police Chief Cerelyn Davis. The review will cover “policies, practices training, data and processes related to the MPD’s use of force, de-escalation and specialized units.”

Justice Department finds Louisville Police uses excessive force, discriminated against Black people

shutterstock_2153473169106017

The Justice Department said Wednesday that it found the that Louisville Metro Police Department and Louisville/Jefferson County Metro government violated the Constitution and federal law in various practices, and dealing with the Black community. Following an investigation launched in April 2021, the DOJ said it has entered an agreement with the government and police department to address many of the issues under federal law that prohibits officers from engaging in a pattern or practice of conduct that deprives people of rights.

Attorney General Merrick Garland said in a statement: “This unacceptable and unconstitutional conduct erodes the community trust necessary for effective policing. It is also an affront to the vast majority of officers who put their lives on the line to serve Louisville with honor. And it is an affront to the people of Louisville who deserve better.”

The department found the police had a pattern of using excessive force, police dogs and tasers; conducted searches based on invalid warrants; made unlawful stops and searches; discriminated against Black people in its enforcement activities; violated protected free speech activities; and discriminated against people with behavioral health disabilities.

The DOJ’s findings are separate from cases related to the death of Breonna Taylor, who was shot in her home by Louisville police instituting a no-knock warrant. The Justice Department had previously filed charges against four former officers involved in that 2020 incident.

See the trailer for Prime Video’s ‘Citadel’ with Priyanka Chopra Jonas & Richard Madden

shutterstock_1415256743855585

Prime Video has shared the official trailer for the new spy thriller ‘Citadel’, starring Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Richard Madden, and executive produced by the Russo Brothers (Avengers: Endgame) and showrunner David Weil.

Citadel is described as a ‘global adventure where spies from several countries came together for the ultimate mission.’   An official synopsis reads: “Eight years ago, Citadel fell. The independent global spy agency — tasked to uphold the safety and security of all people — was destroyed by operatives of Manticore, a powerful syndicate manipulating the world from the shadows. With Citadel’s fall, elite agents Mason Kane (Madden) and Nadia Sinh (Jonas) had their memories wiped as they narrowly escaped with their lives. They’ve remained hidden ever since, building new lives under new identities, unaware of their pasts. Until one night, when Mason is tracked down by his former Citadel colleague, Bernard Orlick (Stanley Tucci), who desperately needs his help to prevent Manticore from establishing a new world order. Mason seeks out his former partner, Nadia, and the two spies embark on a mission that takes them around the world in an effort to stop Manticore, all while contending with a relationship built on secrets, lies, and a dangerous-yet-undying love.”

Citadel will premier with its first two episodes on Prime Video on April 28, followed by a new episode released every Friday through May 26.  Take a look at the trailer – here.

The Section 8AA Girls Championship game is set for Friday at 7:00 p.m. at Detroit Lakes High School.

It will be Wadena-Deer Creek vs Perham.  It is an interesting match-up.  You have cinderella with Wadena-Deer Creek as the 11th seed and Perham as the favorite from start to finish.   You have Jordan Cresap, a Perham grad and son of Perham boys basketball coach Dave Cresap.  There is a lot going on in this match-up.

Perham has Willow Thiel, the tremendous junior post player who is an impossible matchup for any team in the section.  But, Wadena-Deer Creek is the scrappiest team I have seen play this year.  They have solid athletes and they have some athletic posts that can slow down Thiel.

I think Perham comes away with the win, but I would be surprised if it is more than 20 points.

— — —

The Section 8A Girls Basketball Championship game should be a dandy.  Badger/Greenbush-Middle River will take on the Fosston Greyhounds at Ralph Englestad Arena at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.

BGMR has been the top team in the west all season long.  They have been dominant with their athleticism, muscle, and usual hard-nosed style of play.  Defensively they are impressive, and that’s what makes them so good.  Fosston has a great mix of athleticism, size, and some stellar defense. Both teams are well-coached and this should be a tremendous game.

It will come down to which team is going to make their shots.  Whoever does that will likely be the winner.  Both teams got off to good starts in the semi-finals and both teams will have to do the same thing on Friday.

If I had to bet, I would say BGMR by three points, possibly in overtime!!!

JOKES

After 25 years of marriage, I took a look at my wife one day and said:

“Honey, 25 years ago, we had a cheap apartment, a cheap car, slept on a sofa bed and watched a 10-inch black-and-white TV, but I got to sleep every night with a hot 25-year-old blonde.

Now, we have a nice house, a nice car, a big bed and a big-screen plasma TV, but I’m sleeping with a 50-year-old woman. It seems to me that you’re not holding up your side of things.”

But my wife is a very reasonable woman.

She told me to go out and find a hot 25-year-old blonde, and she’d make sure that I would once again be living in a cheap apartment, driving a cheap car and sleeping on a sofa bed.

A new business was opening and one of the owner’s friends wanted to send him flowers for the occasion. They arrived at the new business site and the owner read the card, which said: ‘Rest in Peace.’

The owner was angry and called the florist to complain. After he had told the florist of the obvious mistake and how angry he was, the florist replied:

‘Sir, I’m really sorry for the mistake, but rather than getting angry, you should imagine this – somewhere, there is a funeral taking place today, and they have flowers with a note saying: ‘Congratulations on your new location!”
