HBO Max has ordered an ‘It’ prequel series, with the working title of ‘Welcome to Derry.’
Andy Muschietti, who directed 2017’s ‘It’ and 2019’s ‘It: Chapter Two,’ will serve as show runner on ‘Welcome to Derry’ alongside his sister, ‘It’ producer Barbara Muschietti, as well as actor-writer Jason Fuchs, who played Richie’s manager in It: Chapter Two.
Said Fuchs in a statement: “To be able to return to the world of my all-time favorite horror novel and help build upon the singularly brilliant cinematic universe created by Andy and Barbara is more than the opportunity of a lifetime, it’s a dream come true — or, maybe more appropriately, a nightmare.”
The Muschiettis shared: “As teenagers, we took turns reading chapters of Stephen King’s IT until the thick paperback fell to pieces. IT is an epic story that contains multitudes, far beyond what we could explore in our IT movies. We can’t wait to share the depths of Steve’s novel, in all its heart, humor, humanity and horror.”
The Weeknd (real name Abel Tesfaye) will appear in his first starring role in a feature film, which he co-wrote and will produce. According to a report from Deadline, the singer is set to star in a new untitled film alongside ‘Wednesday’ star Jenna Ortega and Oscar-nominated actor Barry Keoghan. The film will be directed by Trey Edward Shults, the filmmaker behind “Waves” and “It Comes at Night,” who is also co-writing and will executive produce. Deadline reports that Shults and The Weeknd have been secretly working on the film for several months, and the film is shooting in Los Angeles. Otherwise, no details have been shared and the “logline is being kept under wraps.”
The movie will serve as The Weeknd’s feature acting debut in film, but he is also set to star in the HBO series ‘The Idol,’ which he co-created with Euphoria creator Sam Levinson. The show has yet to set an official release date, but the trailer for ‘The Idol’ revealed that fans can expect the first episode sometime this year. ‘The Idol’ also stars Lily-Rose Depp, Jennie Kim of BLACKPINK, Dan Levy of Schitt’s Creek, Troye Sivan, and more.
The Minnesota Highway Patrol responded to a rollover crash on Highway 2 on the east side of Crookston near the Christian Brothers Ford. The Highway Patrol responded and recovered the vehicle’s occupants, and towed the truck to Christian Brothers Ford. There appear to be no severe injuries in the crash. Polk County Sheriff’s Office and Crookston Ambulance assisted on the scene.
Remeber to drive safely on the highways as several stretches of Highway 2 and other major roadways are icy with the recent temperatures.

The Dream Boutique is back in a new location to help provide dresses for local girls that plan to go to prom. The Dream Boutique will hold several shopping and donation events over the next two months for people to donate dresses and other items for girls to buy for their school’s prom. The Dream Boutique’s Shopping Events will be on:
Sunday, March 5, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.
Sunday, March 19, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.
Thursday, March 30, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Sunday, April 2, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m.
Wednesday, April 12, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Erin LaPlante and Kim Dans are co-organizers of the Dream Boutique, who both organized its events back in 2017 after hearing someone ask where they could donate prom dresses and realizing there wasn’t a place students could get prom dresses at a low price.
“Our mission is to promote self-confidence and individual beauty by providing affordable prom dresses and accessories to local high school girls,” said LaPlante. “We’re serving areas like Crookston, Fisher, Climax, Fertile, and Red Lake Falls. Last year we even had people as far as Bemidji, Erskine, Grand Forks, and McIntosh come to us, so we won’t turn people away based on where they’re at because we’re here to provide a solution for anybody that has a need.”
The store currently has over 215 dresses available for girls to choose from but also has many other items girls may need for proms, such as shoes, jewelry, purses, and more.
The Boutique is also accepting donations of prom dresses and other prom-related items that can be sold to girls for prom at prices ranging anywhere from $5 to $100.
“We do take the long, prom-type dresses. We try to stay away from the plainer bridesmaid dresses. We have taken some of those in the past and were able to donate those over to the Polk County DAC. We have 215ish prom-type dresses here right now, and we can always use more,” said LaPlante. “We take long prom dresses, short homecoming style dresses, and donations of the jewelry, purses, and accessories can be dropped off either at my State Farm Insurance office on Broadway or at Kim’s Store at Wish Upon a Star.”
The Boutique is also helping the Crookston High School prom with more than just giving dresses as they plan to make a $500 donation to the school this week. During the shopping events, they will have door prizes for the shoppers to get prizes from local businesses.
“In the past, we have had local hairstylists and things of that nature donate door prizes so that when shoppers come in, they can sign up for them, and if they get their name pulled, they win a door prize,” Kim Dans explained. “We’ve had updos, hair products, and tanning packages.”
Shoppers can enter their names during any of the shopping events, and names will be pulled on the last event on Wednesday, April 12. If any businesses wish to donate any prizes, they can contact Erin or Kim to add their prize or drop them off like a donation at either of their establishments.
The Dream Boutique is located at 108 South Main Street on the corner of South Main Street and West Robert Street in the old Carquest, Taekwondo, and Just for Kix studio. Its first shopping event will be held on Sunday, March 5, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Donations can be dropped anytime at Erin LaPlante’s State Farm building during their regular hours of 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Monday to Friday, or at Wish Upon a Star during their regular hours of or you can call Erin at 218-289-1867 or Kim at 218-281-1700 to make arrangements to drop off donations or pick up any orders.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is accepting proposals for private landowners to graze cattle on parts of Glacial Ridge National Wildlife Refuge beginning in May of 2023. The selected landowner will enter into a Cooperative Agricultural Agreement to conduct grazing on specified units of the Refuge. This conservation grazing opportunity has the potential to last through August 2025. Cattle will be rotated at specific intervals through multiple different pastures within the Refuge. More than 1,600 of the Refuge’s 23,000 acres will be grazed in 2023. The objective of grazing on the Refuge is to manage its grassland and wetland habitats and improve conditions for migratory birds and other ground-nesting birds. Rotational grazing is used in conjunction with prescribed fire and other management activities to mimic the historical disturbances that the tallgrass prairie of western Minnesota evolved with.
Glacial Ridge National Wildlife Refuge was established in 2004 as the 545th refuge in the National Wildlife Refuge System and is located 10 miles east of Crookston, MN, in Polk County. The Glacial Ridge Project is the largest prairie-wetland restoration ever undertaken in the U.S. and began with the acquisition and restoration of more than 20,000 acres of land by The Nature Conservancy and numerous partners.
This grazing opportunity will be awarded through a closed-request process. Proposals are due March 20, 2023. Interested people can ask questions or request a copy of the grazing proposal package by contacting Gregg Knutsen, Refuge Manager, at 218-687-2229, 218-686-4329, or gregg_knutsen@fws.gov. The grazing proposal package is also posted on the Glacial Ridge National Wildlife Refuge webpage (https://www.fws.gov/refuge/glacial-ridge). Additionally, these packages can be picked up directly at the Glacial Ridge and Rydell National Wildlife Refuge Office, located approximately four miles southwest of Erskine, MN, on County Road 210.

The KROX Athletes of the week are Carter Coauette, a 152-pound junior, Ethan Bowman, a 145-pound senior, Evin Trudeau, a 113-pound Junior, Hunter Knutson, a 182-pound senior, Ethan Boll, a 220-pound senior, and Gavyn Hlucny, a 126-pound freshman, who will all be competing for the Crookston Pirate Wrestling team in the Class A Individual State Tournament beginning this Friday at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. All six of them earned State Tournament berths a year ago and will be making a return trip.
Carter Coauette competed at 138-pounds in the State Tournament a year ago and did not place. The junior had no issues making a return trip to State this year. “Carter has such a will to win and that’s something that can’t be taught,” said Pirates Wrestling Coach Wes Hanson. “He’s wrestled a ton of matches and had lots of success. He along with all of these guys are returning to the State Tournament so I think they’ve raised the bar for themselves and that’s exciting.” After receiving a first round bye in the Section 8A Tournament, Coauette won his next two matches 11-4 and 5-1 to secure 1st place in his division.
Ethan Bowman is hungry to get back on the mat at the State Tournament as the senior got just one match down in St. Paul a year ago, and it was a 4-1 loss. Bowman also received a first round by this past weekend in the Section 8A Tournament, and then won his next two matches for a first place finish in the 145-pound division. “Ethan is the kind of guy that I truly believe can score on anybody,” said coach Hanson. “That makes him really dangerous and at this time of the year the guys that are aggressive tend to win a lot of matches so I’m excited to see him work this weekend.”
Evin Trudeau will also be representing the Pirates in the State Tournament this year after a 2nd place finish in the Section 8A Tournament at 113-pounds. Trudeau needed to win his last match on Saturday to advance he got it done with a pin in just 44 seconds. Trudeau faced stiff competition in the State Tournament a year ago losing both matches and will be eager to get back on the mat. “Evin does everything we ask as coaches. He always shows up to anything extra and is constantly committing himself to the sport to have success,” said coach Hanson. “The results have proven that and now that he has experience at the State Tournament I am looking forward to seeing him make some noise this time around.”
Hunter Knutson will be wrestling for the final time this upcoming weekend, and the senior will look for more opportunities this go around after losing his first and only match at the State Tournament last year. “Hunter is a senior and captain and has been a great leader for us all season long. I think he really shined this past weekend at the Individual Tournament and wrestled the best he has all season,” said coach Hanson. “He dictated the matches, scored at all positions, and if he can wrestle like that again this weekend there will be good things ahead for him. “Knutson took 1st place at 182-pounds in the Section 8A Tournament with a bye, followed by two victories of 7-4 and 2-1.
Ethan Boll is a defending State Champion, and like last year, he has his sights set on another State Title. Boll had no issues at 220-pounds throughout the course of the Section 8A Tournament on his way to 1st place and will be one of the favorites down at the State Tournament as he looks to go back-to-back as a State Champion. “He’s a returner State Champion so really that’s all you need to know,” said coach Hanson. “His goals are very clear and I know he is going to do everything he can to try and go get another one, and compete as hard as he can like always. Ethan has been dominant all season long and he’s always looking to score points.”
Gavyn Hlucny had three wins in the Section 8A Tournament this past weekend to win 1st place at 126-pounds. Other than Ethan Boll, Gavyn Hlucny was the other Pirate to place at the State Tournament last year taking 6th at 120-pounds. “Gavyn is a returning State Tournament placer, and a big reason why is because he is such a great competitor,” said coach Hanson. “He is a student of the sport, he looks forward to big matches, and I’m really excited to coach him this weekend.”
All six wrestlers begin their journey toward a state title on Friday in St. Paul and will be receiving a Send-Off from the community tomorrow morning at 9:15 a.m. “I’m really looking forward to coaching all these guys down at the State Tournament and seeing what they can do,” said coach Hanson. “All these guys need to be looking to score points and stay aggressive and if they can do that, they are going to have a great weekend.”
