Warriors’ Stephen Curry to star in NBC comedy series ‘Mr. Throwback’

shutterstock_144677772814079

Deadline’s Peter White reports that Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry is set to star in an NBC mockumentary comedy series entitled ‘Mr. Throwback,’ alongside actor Adam Pally. Universal Television and Unanimous Media, a multimedia organization for which Curry serves as co-founder and co-CEO, will produce the mockumentary.

White wrote: “The series about a down-on-his-luck memorabilia dealer looking for redemption by reuniting with his sixth-grade teammate, NBA legend Steph Curry. The project is in development at NBC, which is known for mockumentaries such as The Office and Parks and Recreation.” Curry, of course, will play himself, while Pally will likely play the memorabilia dealer, and the show will be in a mockumentary style.

Curry said via Deadline: “Making the natural transition from behind the camera to center stage opposite Adam Pally, we can’t wait for the world to see what we have in store.” Curry guest-starred as himself on an episode of HBO’s Ballers in 2015. Otherwise, his experiences on television have either been as a voice actor on cartoons or in reality shows. More notably, Curry served as an executive producer for The Queen of Basketball, a documentary on the life of Lusia Harris that won the Oscar in 2022 for Best Documentary Short Subject.

shutterstock_1681023073990928

Lizzo and Jack Black are among the latest guest stars on the Disney+ series ‘The Mandalorian’. The duo will appear in the sixth episode of season 3 of the series.

Black wrote on Instagram: “So fun working with @lizzobeeating on @themandalorian as the king and queen of Plazir-15!!!,” alongside two photos of himself and Lizzo. In the pics, Black sports an extravagant beard while Lizzo dons a headdress and elegant plaits.According to Entertainment Weekly, the duo plays Duchess and Captain Bombardier, rulers of Plazir-15, which operates partly as a democracy. Din Djarin and Bo-Katan can be seen exploring the planet Plazir-15, and immediately upon arrival are greeted by the planet’s leadership, Bombadier (played by Jack Black) and Lizzo’s Duchess character.

An official synopsis of the current season of The Mandalorian reads: “The journeys of the Mandalorian through the Star Wars galaxy continue,” with formerly lonely bounty hunter Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) reuniting with Grogu, a.k.a. Baby Yoda/The Child. Meanwhile, the New Republic struggles to lead the galaxy away from its dark history. The Mandalorian will cross paths with old allies and make new enemies as he and Grogu continue their journey together.

The Mandalorian is now streaming on Disney+. Check out the cameo from Lizzo and Jack Black – here.

SPORTS FEEVER by Chris Fee of KROX Radio – chrisjfee@yahoo.com

It is hard to believe we are already to Easter and no baseball, softball, or golf competition in sight.  The good news is the month of May is supposed to be above-average temperatures, so when they finally get to play, hopefully, it is nice out for them and the broadcasters!!!

I am heading to Las Vegas next week for the National Association of Broadcasters convention and have some meetings, classes, and will tour the convention floor looking at new technology for radio and streaming.
My wife and I will be going and meeting up with some of her high school friends, so if you have any tips on how to win big money, let me know!!!!!  I was nervous, but I haven’t gone in a while because of COVID, and it worked out because there will be no sports going on while I am gone other than indoor track and tennis.

Crookston High School graduate Mike Hastings was hired as the Wisconsin Badger Men’s Hockey Head Coach last week.

Why did Hastings take the job at Wisconsin?  Pretty easy.  He has done everything he could possibly do at Mankato, where he was making $375,000 per year.   At Wisconsin, he will have the richest first-year contract in college men’s hockey history, with $700,000 per year!!!!  Big 10 TV contract baby!!!
Hastings, 57, will earn $700,000 in his first season on a five-year,
$3.75 million contract that contains a $25,000 annual escalator. His
contract at Minnesota State had a maximum of $350,000, according to
the Mankato Free Press.

Mike will make almost double what he was making in Minnesota, and Wisconsin taxes don’t hit you as hard as Minnesota!!!  Wisconsin was terrible this year, and the only way to go is up, so it is a win-win.

Assistant Coach Todd Knott turned down the head Mankato job, and I tend to believe he will follow Mike to Wisconsin.  Todd is a big-time recruiter and a huge piece to Hastings success at Mankato, so the two are a dynamic duo!

Congratulations to Mike, and good luck, except for when they play the Gophers.   Still better dead than red!

JOKES

A guy falls asleep on the beach for several hours and gets a horrible sunburn all over his body.

He goes to the hospital and is promptly admitted after being diagnosed with second-degree burns on his legs.

He was starting to blister and in pain by the time the doctor arrived. To help, the doctor prescribed an IV with saline and electrolytes, a sedative, and a Viagra pill every four hours.

The attending nurse was rather surprised by the prescription and asked, “What good will Viagra do him?”

The doctor replied, “It will keep the sheets off his legs.”

An old preacher was dying. He sent a message for his IRS agent and his lawyer, both church members, to come to his home. When they arrived, they were ushered up to his bedroom. As they entered the room, the preacher held out his hands and motioned for them to sit on each side of the bed. The preacher grasped their hands, sighed contentedly, smiled, and stared at the ceiling. For a time, no one said anything. Both the IRS agent and the attorney were touched and flattered that the old preacher would ask them to be with him during his final moment. They were also puzzled because the preacher had never given any indication that he particularly liked either one of them. Finally, the lawyer asked, “Preacher, why did you ask the two of us to come?”The old preacher mustered up some strength, then said weakly, “Jesus died between two thieves, and that’s how I want to go, too.”

Once upon a time, there was a man who was peacefully driving down a windy road. Suddenly, a bunny skipped across the road, and the man couldn’t stop. He hit the bunny head-on. The man quickly jumped out of his car to check the scene. There, lying lifeless in the middle of the road, was the Easter Bunny. The man cried out, “Oh no! I have committed a terrible crime! I have run over the Easter Bunny!” The man started sobbing quite hard, and then he heard another car approaching. It was a woman in a red convertible. The woman stopped and asked what the problem was. The man explained, “I have done something horribly sad. I have run over the Easter Bunny. Now there will be no one to deliver eggs on Easter, and it’s all my fault.” The woman ran back to her car. A moment later, she came back carrying a spray bottle. She ran over to the motionless bunny and sprayed it. The bunny immediately sprang up, ran into the woods, stopped, and waved back at the man and woman. Then it ran another 10 feet, stopped, and waved. It then ran another 10 feet, stopped, and waved again. It did this over and over and over again until the man and the woman could no longer see the bunny. Once out of sight, the man exclaimed, “What is that stuff in that bottle?” The woman replied, “It’s hairspray. It revitalizes hare and adds permanent wave.”

GRAND FORKS YOUTH SHELTER CERTIFIED TO PROVIDE TEMPORARY SHELTER FOR 10 TO 17 YEAR OLDS

youth-shelters172808

North Dakota’s Health and Human Services (HHS) agency announced that the Grand Forks County Youth Shelter has become certified to provide temporary shelter for children ages 10-17 to help prevent foster care placements. The goal is child safety and well-being, while strengthening and stabilizing families.

Certified shelters offer a temporary safe bed for no more than seven days to children and youth during a family crisis. Announced in January 2022, certified temporary shelter care helps meet immediate needs while support and services are put in place for families.
Certification enables shelter providers to receive state funding for the care of children.

The Grand Forks County certified youth shelter program can currently serve up to four children, with an expansion to six beds planned. It will primarily serve children from Grand Forks, Walsh, Ramsey, Pembina, Nelson, Steele, Traill, Cavalier, Benson, Towner, Richland, Ransom, Sargent, Rolette and Cass counties.

During the 2021 legislative session, lawmakers expanded access to emergency shelter care options for children and youth. Certification means youth shelter care providers meet safety and service standards.

In 2022, HHS offered $1.5 million in grant funds to existing and prospective youth shelter providers to establish certified shelter care programs or enhance services and facilities to meet certification requirements. Grand Forks applied for and received grant funding to establish a program. Funds were used for start-up costs, including initial operating costs, remodeling, and other costs related to meeting certification standards.

POLK COUNTY COMMISSIONERS GET A FLOODING UPDATE

polk-county-emergency-management-151239

The Polk County Commissioners met Tuesday morning at the Polk County Government Center Board Room.

COUNTY FLOODING OUTLOOK
Polk County Emergency Manager Jody Beauchane updated the board on flooding projections for the county.  Beauchane had some good news for the commissioners as he relayed that the National Weather Service 10-day forecast doesn’t have any precipitation after the storm.  He said there is a lot of optimism for minimal flooding, even with a significant snow event this week, as long as the temperatures don’t get too high in a short period of time and we have a slow melt.

“There is still a possibility that we could slide by without any major damage in the county even after this storm hits.  We have a 10-day outlook with some thawing during the day and freezing at night, so it might slow some things down.  If not, I could see where we could have some issues with our north/south roads, gravel roads could have some issues with wash-off gravel like they normally do.”

The county has been working with the cities of Crookston, Fisher, East Grand Forks, and Mentor to prepare for flooding.  County Ditch 14 could be a problem. Although the culverts have been changed and are bigger, Mentor will prepare for high water with sandbagging.

There hasn’t been much thawing in the Red River Valley, so that means the rivers and ditches are still locked up. “Right now, south of Fargo, in the Wahpeton (North Dakota) area, there isn’t water coming our way at the moment, so everything is kind of locked up, and we all thaw at the same time we have a chance,” said Beauchane. “Again, you get to the Fargo and Wahpeton area, and they have been doing some digging down there, and with the drought they had last fall, there isn’t any frost, and a lot of the moisture could sink into the ground before it all gets into the tributaries and rivers and starts heading our way.”

Beauchane reminded the Townships if they have any flood issues, they should document any damage.  “The townships should keep track of damages like road damage, contractors they might have in, snow removal that you are paying for,” said Beauchane. “Take pictures in case we get declared, you can get everything reimbursed.”

ICAC JOINT POWERS AGREEMENT –
The county is entering into the state of Minnesota Joint Powers agreement regarding the Minnesota Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (ICAC). “What this does is enters us, our Sheriff’s Office, and investigators into a five-year contract with the State of Minnesota o behalf of the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, and this is to work together to investigate and prosecute crimes committed against children and the criminal exploitation of children that is committed or facilitated by or through the use of computers,” said Polk County Sheriff James Tadman. “Our investigation is to find out and investigate anybody involved in that and dismantle it.  It gives us the opportunity to work with other investigators throughout the state because we are all in the same agreement, and it gives us a chance to recuperate some of the overtime costs and equipment needed to investigate those types of crimes.

FERTILE-BELTRAMI GRAD RYLIN PETRY NAMED NSIC GOLFER OF THE WEEK

rylin-petry457416

Bemidji State Freshman and Fertile-Beltrami High School graduate Rylin Petry continued his stellar start to the spring season as his runner-up finish earned him Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Golfer of the Week honors on Wednesday.

Petry fired two rounds under par while posting scores of 69-67-73 for a one-under 209 to tie for second. His finish was the highest among NSIC golfers in the field. He tied for third with a par-three scoring average of 3.06, helping lead the Beavers to a seventh-place finish.

Petry now leads the team with three top-five finishes this season, all coming in the three spring tournaments, and set a new collegiate personal-best low round of 67 this week, as his previous best was 69. Petry and the Beavers also set a new program record round of 277 during the second round at The Mule.

Former President Donald Trump pleads not guilty to 34 felony counts of falsifying business records

shutterstock_1821865598149594

Former President Donald Trump pleaded not guilty to 34 felony counts of falsifying business records on Tuesday, stemming from an investigation into an alleged hush money payment he made to adult film star Stormy Daniels while he was a presidential candidate in 2016. The indictment against the 76-year-old former president was unsealed and the charges against the former president were read to him in court before he himself made the plea to a judge. Trump, who is campaigning for another term in the White House, is the first sitting or former president in U.S. history to face criminal charges.

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office said that Trump would not be placed in handcuffs or have his mug shot taken when he surrendered to authorities, as that is only reserved for flight risks or threats to the district attorney or court personnel. He was fingerprinted upon arrival at the courthouse.

The investigation that led to unprecedented charges against the former president traces back to an alleged affair Trump had with Daniels, and the allegation that Trump arranged a $130,000 payment to Daniels a month before the 2016 election to ensure she’d keep quiet about the alleged affair they’d had years earlier.

A Manhattan grand jury voted to indict Trump last week after investigating the payment that prosecutors allege was falsely documented as “legal expenses” in the financial records of the Trump Organization. Trump and his longtime lawyer Michael Cohen initially denied the claims of an affair, however Cohen later admitted that there was a payment made to Daniels. Cohen told The New York Times that he paid Daniels $130,000 out of his own pocket in 2016, calling it “a private transaction.”  He said Trump had not reimbursed him. Trump since admitted he authorized the $130,000 payment, but has continued to deny the underlying claims that the two had an affair or that the payment was in any way connected to his campaign.

Former top aide to ex-Maryland Gov. Hogan dies after manhunt

shutterstock_612694196114384

Roy McGrath, the former chief of staff to ex-Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan, died after he was captured in Tennessee. McGrath was Hogan’s deputy chief of staff in 2015 before Hogan appointed him to lead the Maryland Environmental Service in December 2016. He briefly returned as Hogan’s chief of staff in 2020, before resigning amid backlash over a large severance payout from the service.

Lawyer Joseph Murtha said in an email that McGrath, 53, suffered a gunshot wound and succumbed to injuries. Murtha said it was unclear whether the injury was self-inflicted or whether it occurred in an exchange of gunfire with FBI agents. “The loss of Roy’s life is an absolute tragedy,” Murtha said. “I think it is important for me to say that Roy never wavered about his innocence.” FBI spokesman Shayne Buchwald said an “agent-involved shooting” is under review but declined to comment further on who fired the fatal shot, adding that McGrath suffered the injury during his arrest in Knoxville at 6:30 p.m.

The incident occurred nearly three weeks after he failed to appear for trial on federal wire fraud, theft and falsification charges on March 13. Two weeks later, the FBI offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to his arrest, saying he was a fugitive and an international flight risk.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Maryland had accused McGrath of using his position at the nonprofit public corporation to enrich himself by fraudulently claiming Hogan had approved the payout. Federal prosecutors in Maryland also accused McGrath of illegally recording private conversations with officials, falsifying time sheets and directing service funds to a museum where he was a member and to pay for tuition benefits.
