CITY OF CROOKSTON REMINDS RESIDENTS OF LAWN MOWING ORDINANCE

images-4629358

The City of Crookston reminds residents of its lawnmowing ordinance and asks residents to abide by it during the summer months.

City Code Section 94.35, Weeds and Grass – directs owners and occupants of property within the City to cut and remove all weeds, whether noxious or not, and all grass outside the travel portion of any street or alley adjacent to the property having attained a height of six (6) inches. If weeds are not so cut and removed or if the grass is not so cut, the City may do so at the expense of the owner and occupant, and if not paid, the charge for such work may be made a special assessment against the property.

“The City of Crookston is a complaint-based entity on the nuisance grass. If you have a neighbor, or if you see something above six inches tall, you can give City Hall a call at 218-281-1232 or 218-281-4503,” said City Clerk Ashley Rystad. “The biggest thing is that the grass ordinance is complaint-based. If it is a neighbor, a friend, or you’re seeing it on a walk, and you have a concern, give City Hall a call so we are aware of it, and we can take care of it.”

MOWING VIOLATIONS (in a calendar year)-
First violation-$25 plus the cost of mowing
Second notification fee-$50
Second violation-$50 plus cost of mowing
Third notification-$50
Third violation-$100 plus cost of mowing
Subsequent notification fee-$50
Subsequent violations-$200 plus cost of mowing
