Jada Pinkett Smith’s ‘Red Table Talk’ officially canceled by Meta

shutterstock_2232810863784877

Red Table Talk—the celebrity talk show co-hosted by Jada Pinkett Smith, her daughter Willow Smith, and her mother Adrienne Banfield-Norris—has been canceled after five seasons. The cancellation of the series (which launched in 2018 on Meta’s streaming service Facebook Watch) comes amid Facebook’s shift away from original programming to Virtual Reality experiences.

The 51-year-old Pinkett Smith wrote in a statement on Instagram: “We are so grateful to have had such a beautiful partnership with Facebook Watch and we are sorry to see the entire team disband. We wish everyone well in their new journeys to come. We at Red Table are in talks of finding a new home and we’ll see you soon.”

Red Table Talk often hosted celebrities in the aftermath of a scandal. For instance, influencer Jordyn Woods appeared on the show when she was accused of cheating with Khloe Kardashian’s on-again, off-again boyfriend Tristan Thompson in 2019. Pinkett Smith even addressed her own personal scandals, including her extramarital “entanglement” with singer August Alsina, as well as a brief look at how “The Slap” (that involved her husband Will Smith and Chris Rock ) had negatively impacted her family.

CROOKSTON FFA STUDENTS DO WELL AT STATE

national-chapter-award-2474460

Crookston High School FFA sent 32 members to the 94th Minnesota FFA State Convention April 23-25 in Minneapolis and St. Paul.  “It was fun but challenging at the same time,” said Crookston FFA instructor Carolyn Pavlish. “We have seventh through 12th-grade students, so it was a variety of ages and behaviors.  I have to give Dan, our bus driver, a lot of respect for getting us everywhere we had to go.”

The Conduct of Chapter Meetings Team, Parliamentary Procedure Team, and the Creed Speaking Individual (Addisyn Schiller) competed on Sunday afternoon. The Conduct of Chapter Meetings team advanced as one of the final six teams to compete again on Monday.

On Monday, all of the teams and the Conduct of Chapter Meetings team competed at the state fairgrounds and the University of Minnesota, St. Paul campus.
Brianna Colborn earned 2nd place for her Equine Science Placement Proficiency. She earned the award by putting in over 300 hours of work at Stable Days Youth Ranch and filling out the application in its entirety.
At the same session, Crookston FFA received recognition for being a Superior Ranked chapter in Minnesota FFA and for having a gold-ranking National Chapter Award Application. The National Chapter award is determined based on an FFA chapter’s Program of Activities.

On Tuesday morning, the Conduct of Chapter Meetings team got to open up the 4th General Session of the State Convention at the opening ceremonies in front of 5,000 people. They received this honor by having the highest opening ceremonies score during the preliminary round.

During the 5th General Session, the Conduct of Chapter Meetings team received a plaque for being the 5th-place team. Only the top 5 teams and top 5 individuals receive recognition at state. This is an incredible accomplishment for the 7th and 8th grade FFA members on the Conduct of Chapter Meetings Team. Conduct of Chapter challenges young FFA members to demonstrate proper use of Parliamentary Procedure and answer questions in regard to the rules of parliamentary procedure.

The rest of the team’s results are ranked in thirds. The top third in the state is ranked gold, the middle third is ranked silver, and the bottom third is ranked bronze. The Horse Evaluation team ranked gold and was 12th place in the state.

Brianna Colborn was the 15th-place individual out of more than 160 competitors.
Ben Capistran competed in Agricultural Mechanics and was 14th (Gold ranking) in the state out of over 150 competitors.

The Best Informed Greenhand team ranked Silver.

Addisyn Schiller ranked silver in Creed Speaking as an individual.

The Milk Quality and Products team ranked bronze as a team, but Rylee Andeson
was silver as an individual.

Fish and Wildlife, Parliamentary Procedure, Nursery Landscape, and Companion Animals Vet Science all ranked bronze.

Addisyn Schiller was selected to be a part of the Minnesota FFA state band.

PIRATE GIRL’S GOLFERS START SEASON AT MOORHEAD TRIANGULAR

pirate-flag940467

The Crookston Pirate Girl’s Golf team finally got their 2023 season started on Monday as they traveled to Meadows Golf Course for the Moorhead Triangular with the Spuds and Bemidji Lumberjacks. The Pirates battled 30mph winds the entire round in brutal playing conditions as Crookston took 3rd place as a team shooting a 430 with freshman Halle Nicholas putting together a 101 which was good for a tie for 8th place individually. Crookston left behind their two senior captains so they could attend tonight’s AAA Banquet. The meet was won by Moorhead who shot a team total of 390.

HALLE NICHOLAS
Freshman Halle Nicholas led the way for Crookston in the first meet of the year. She put together a 101 for her first round of the year which was good for a tie for 8th place in the meet. The highlight of the round for the freshman was recording two pars. On the front nine Nicholas notched a par on the 307-yard par 4 third hole, and on the back nine, she picked up a par on the 293-yard par 4 sixteenth hole. Nicholas shot a 48 on the front nine and 53 on the back nine.

KAYLIE CLAUSON
Sophomore Kaylie Clauson had a solid showing for the first time out. She didn’t have any pars in her round but did have a fantastic birdie on the 232-yard par 4 ninth hole. Clauson recorded that birdie along with two bogeys, three double bogeys, two triple bogeys, and one quadruple bogey for a front nine score of 53. On the back nine, She shot a 55 for a round total of 108 for the first time out this year.

AVA MARTIN
Freshman Ava Martin was next in line with a score of 110. Martin shot a 57 on the front nine without achieving a par. On the back nine, she also didn’t tally any pars but did a better job staying away from the big numbers as she shaved off 4 strokes for a score of 53. In total, Martin had five bogeys in the round as her best scores.

MORGAN NELSON
Morgan Nelson’s 111 was the last score the Pirates used for their team total. The junior came out with two pars on her first five holes of the day but had a tough time staying away from the big numbers. On the front nine outside of those two pars, Nelson recorded one bogey, two double bogeys, and four triple bogeys. The junior tallied a 53 on the front nine before the turn and shot five strokes higher on the back nine for a score of 58 and a round total of 111.

ADDIE FEE
Sophomore Addie Fee shot a 59 on her first nine holes of the year with five double bogeys, three triple bogeys, and a quadruple bogey. On the back nine Fee had two pars both coming on par threes. That was a big reason she was able to shave off three strokes from her front nine total for a score of 56 to end her round with a 115.

CORAL BREKKEN
Junior Coral Brekken had a consistent front nine with three bogeys, three double bogeys, and three triple bogeys for a score of 54 heading into the back nine. On the back nine, Brekken got things started with a quadruple bogey, double bogey, and three straight triple bogeys. From there she would end her round with a double bogey, bogey, and back-to-back quadruple bogeys for a score of 62 and round total of 116.

Manhunt continues for suspect in shooting that killed 5 family members in Texas

shutterstock_2006572079331414

The search for a Texas man who allegedly shot his neighbors after they asked him to stop firing off rounds in his yard headed into a second day Sunday, and authorities saying the suspect ‘could be anywhere’ by now. The suspect, 38-year-old Francisco Oropeza, fled after the shooting on Friday night near the town of Cleveland (north of Houston) that left five people dead, including an 8-year-old boy.

San Jacinto County Sheriff Greg Capers said that neighbors had asked the suspect to stop shooting his gun in the front yard because there was a baby trying to sleep. Oropeza, who allegedly had been drinking, responded, “I’ll do what I want to in my front yard.” Capers said all of the victims were shot from the neck up, “almost execution-style.”

Authorities had widened the search to as far as 20 miles (32 kilometers) from the scene of the shooting, adding that investigators found clothes and a phone while combing a rural area that includes dense layers of forest, but tracking dogs lost the scent. FBI Houston field office agent James Smith told reporters during a press briefing that the AR-15-style rifle that Oropeza allegedly used in the shootings was recovered, but believe he is likely armed with another AR-15-style rifle, and is a “threat to the community,”

FBI spokesperson Christina Garza said investigators believe the victims were from Honduras, and do not believe they were all members of a single family. The victims were identified as Sonia Argentina Guzman, 25; Diana Velazquez Alvarado, 21; Julisa Molina Rivera, 31; Jose Jonathan Casarez, 18; and Daniel Enrique Laso, 8.

Investigators describe Oropeza as a 5-foot-8 Hispanic man with a goatee and short black hair. He was last seen wearing jeans, a black shirt and work boots.
