The Crookston Police Department was called to the following accidents on May 31.

Report of an accident on May 31 at 11:29 a.m. on University Avenue/Sunset Avenue.
Veh. #12004 GMC Envoy, driven by juvenile female Crookston.
Veh. #22019 Honda Passport, driven by Jean Hallahan, Grand Forks, ND.
Unknown injuries.Severe damage to both vehicles.Hallahan cited for failure to yield the right of way.

The Crookston Police Department reported the following accident on May 31 at 17:48 hrs. on South Main Street/3rd Avenue South.
Veh. #12012 Buick Enclave, driven by Janine Mahoney, Crookston.
Veh. #22005 Pontiac G6, driven by a juvenile female from Ada.
A juvenile female was checked out by Crookston Area Ambulance. No transport.Moderate damage to both vehicles. Mahoney cited for failure to yield the right of way.

CROOKSTON HIGH SCHOOL HALL OF FAME ANNOUNCES CLASS OF 2023

The Crookston High School Hall of Fame announces the Class of 2023 Inductees. They are listed below.

Carl Hunt is a 2001 graduate of Crookston High School, where he was active in football, basketball, andgolf. Carl was the quarterback and led the Pirates to three Section 8AAA football championships, including atrip to the state semifinals at the Metrodome. In Carls four years of varsity basketball, the Pirates had a 71-28record. Carl scored 1314 points in his career, which is good for third all-time. As a five-year letter winner ingolf, Carl qualified for state multiple times and finished in the top ten in 1999. Carl had a solid college golfcareer at Concordia College in Moorhead, where he earned All-MIAC Conference honors.

Chris Peterson is a 1989 graduate of Central High School, where he was active in choir, show choir, speechone-act play, three-act play, and Community Theater. Chris was the recipient of the senior art award and the TWThorson Award his senior year. While working on his bachelors degree, Chris started working incostume/hair/make-up design. Since completing his bachelors degree, Chris has worked as a productioncostume assistant working his way to primary costume designer in film and television.

Gordon Tolbert is a retired Industrial Arts teacher at Central High School. Gordon taught Industrial Artsand Technology at Central High School from 1958 to 1997. During his tenure at CHS, Gordon was alsodirector of the Agassiz Valley Vocational Center, a cooperative endeavor between Crookston, Climax and Fertileschools. As a member of the Crookston Development Authority, Gordon worked with city and state leaders tosecure grants for downtown rehabilitation. Gordon worked tirelessly to lay the groundwork for vocationalopportunities for all students.

Don Amiot is a 1959 graduate of Central High School, where he was active in football and track, earningall-conference honors in football in 1958. Don played football at Mayville State for four years, including the1961 undefeated team. After graduating from Mayville, Don held teaching, coaching, and administrative.positions at the high school and college level. He ended his career as Director of Athletics at Mankato StateUniversity, assisting the mens hockey team with their transition to the D1 level. He also served on several D2NCAA championship committees.

1985 Girls Track 1600m Relay Team Christy Rongen Carlstrom, Jennifer Taus Klemens, Sara BachmeierRobertson, and Denise Desplenter Deviney comprise this state championship group of athletes. Each athlete setrecords individually in the 1985 season but came together as a team to win the state championship 1600m relaywith a time of 3:58.2, a Class A record at that time.

The Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be held in conjunction with Ox Cart Days on Saturday, August 19 atthe Crookston High School Commons. There will be a social hour at 1 pm and a ceremony at 2 pm. Informationabout ticket sales will follow closer to the event.

Crookston Public Schools would like to invite the public to a recognition celebration honoring the 2022-2023 retirees of ISD 593 on Friday at 1:30 pm in the CHS commons. Retirees include: Susan Akerlind; Jill Carlson, Nancy Nottestad, LaDonna Peterson, and Marcia Scholler. Coffee and refreshments will be served.

RiverView Health Rehab Service will hold A Matter of Balance class at the Summerfield Apartments located at 423 Woodland in the second-floor Community Room. The two-hour classes will be held on Thursdays from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. For more information and to register, call 281-9463.

Polk County Household Hazardous Waste Collections will be held at the Fertile Fairgrounds on Friday from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. and at the East Shore Beach Area of Maple Lake off County Highway 10 on Saturday, June 3, from 9:00 a.m. to noon. The Polk County Transfer Station accepts household hazardous waste Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 year-round.

The Crookston Eagles Club will have bar bingo at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. $500 must go.

Crookston Spring registration for Driver Education is open to all students currently enrolled in Crookston Public Schools. The next session will be June 5 through the 20. The Crookston City Council will have a special meeting on Monday, June 5 at 5:30 p.m in the City Hall Council Chambers. The Crookston Ways and Means Committee meeting will have a special meeting immediately following the council meeting.

The Fisher American Legion Auxiliary meeting will be at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 6.

The Fisher American Legion will have burger tonight, Wednesday, June 7.

Lutheran Social Service Meals, with support from DSAAA and United Way, will distribute meals to individuals 60 plus on Monday, June 12th, at 9:00 AM at Golden Link in Crookston. Second booster doses of Pfizer or Moderna COVID-19 vaccines are now available at Altru Clinic in Crookston for people 50 and older and those 12 and older who are immunocompromised. The second booster dose must be administered at least four months after the first booster. Adults who received Johnson & Johnson (Janssen) for their primary vaccine and booster dose at least four months ago may now receive a second booster dose of Pfizer or Moderna only. WEST MARSHALL USES BIG INNING TO BEAT RED LAKE COUNTY BASEBALL

The Red Lake County Rebels take on the West Marshall Fusion in a loser-out game in the Section 8A Baseball tournament in Ada. The game is on KROX right now.

FIRST INNING
Red Lake County had a great start with Will Gieseke walking, Carson Erickson with a single, and Pacey Struthers was hit by a pitch to load the bases. A run scored on an error, another scored on a Brock Seeger ground out for a 2-0 lead. Ben Gullingsrud had a perfect sacrifice bunt to score another run for a 3-0 lead.
West Marshall had bases loaded with two out in the bottom of the inning but the next batter grounded out.

SECOND INNING
Red Lake County had back-to-back singles from Gieseke and Colin Taggert and runners at second and third base with one out. The runner at third was picked off, and the next batter struck out, and the threat was over.
West Marshall had a big bottom of the inning. Derek Moehrle started with a single, Nick Winge walked, and a pitch hit Dylan Widner to load the bases. Will McGlynn singled to score two runs, Jackson Kekke walked to load the bases before Demetrius Oberg singled in a run for a 3-3 tie. Aiden Anderson crushed a line drive over the left fielder’s head for a bases-clearing triple for a 6-3 Fusion lead. A few batters later, Widner singled to score another run, and West Marshall led 7-3.

THIRD INNING
Red Lake County only sent three batters to the plate in the third inning, and West Marshall’s Anderson blasted a double, but the other three batters in the inning were retired.

FOURTH INNING
Red Lake County got a run back when Ben Gullingsrud walked, stole second base, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and scored on a Gunner Halvorson ground out to get within a 7-4 deficit.
West Marshall responded with four runs. Woinarowicz struck out but reached on a wild pitch. Moehrle walked, and Winge bunted for a single to load the bases. After two outs, Kekke singled in a run, Oberg singled in two runs, and another run scored on a wild pitch for an 11-4 lead.

FIFTH INNING
Red Lake County got a two-out walk from Struthers before the next batter flew out to center field for an out.
West Marshall responded with a Safranski walk and later scored on a Winge triple for a 12-4 lead.

SIXTH INNING
Red Lake County seventh grader Gullingsrud singled with one out before the next two batters were retired.
West Marshall only sent three batters to the plate in the bottom of the inning and took a 12-4 lead into the seventh inning.

ADA-BORUP-WEST HOLDS ON TO BEAT WEST MARSHALL BASEBALL

The West Marshall Fusion take on the Ada-Borup-West Cougars in the second round of the Section 8A Baseball tournament in Ada at 12:30 p.m. today.

FIRST INNING
Ada-Borup-West’s Cameron Spaeth led off the game with a walk and Trent Sip was hit by a
pitch. A run scored on an error for a 1-0 lead before Austin McCraven doubled to score another run and the Cougars led 2-0.
West Marshall was retired in 1-2-3 fashion in the bottom of the inning.

SECOND INNING
ABW’s Ames Fassino led off the inning with a single, Casper Kritzberger was hit by a pitch before Spaeth singled to score a run for a 3-0 lead. Trent Sip walked to load the bases and Austin McCraven walked to score another run for a 4-0 lead.
West Marshall led off the bottom of the inning with their first hit of the game when Aiden Anderson singled. But the next batter hit into a double play. The next batter flew out and the threat was over.

THIRD INNING
Ada-Borup-West only sent three batters to the plate in the top of the inning.
West Marshall’s Nick Winge was hit by a pitch and Dylan Widner walked with one out. The next two batters were retired and ABW held on to a 4-0 lead.

FOURTH INNING
ABW was retired in 1-2-3 fashion.
West Marshall’s Anderson recorded his second hit of the game with one out and after a strikeout, Jackson Woinarowicz walked before the next batter struck out and ABW led 4-0.

FIFTH INNING
ABW had a two-out single, but the next batter struck out.
West Marshall finally got on the board when Widner singled and Jackson Kekke singled to score a run to get within a 4-1 deficit.

SIXTH INNING
ABW’s Fassino led off the inning with a single, but the next three batters were retired.
West Marshall had a baserunner in the bottom of the inning after Woinarowicz was hit by a pitch with two outs, but the next batter grounded out and ABW took a 4-1 lead into the seventh inning.

SEVENTH INNING
ABW was retired in 1-2-3 fashion in the top of the inning.
West Marshall needed three runs to tie and four to win in the bottom of the inning and they had a great start with Nick Winge getting hit by a pitch. After an out, Will McGlynn reached on an error and Kekke singled to score two runs to bring the Fusion within a 4-3 defict. Demetrius Oberg singled and after an out Safranski was hit by a pitch to load the bases. The next batter struck out and ABW held on for a 4-3 victory.

Ada-Borup=West improves to 12-5 on the year and will play Sacred Heart in the winners bracket. West Marshall drops to 14-6 on the year and will play Red Lake County in a loser out game at 5:30 p.m.

The Sacred Heart Eagles take on the Red Lake County Rebels in the second round of the Section 8A Baseball tournament in Ada at 10:00 a.m. today.

Sacred Heart is the top seed and is 14-5 on the year. Red Lake County is the fourth seed and is 12-9 on the year. The teams met once during the regular season and Sacred Heart won 6-3 on May 19.

The Northwest Regional Corrections Center reported the following arrest –

Katie Dawn Green, 19 no address provided, for tampering with a motor vehicle, entering without owner permission.

The Crookston Fire Department (CFD) responded to the following calls on 5/31/2023 –

At 11:50 a.m., the CFD responded to the intersection of University Ave and Sunset Ave for a report of a two-vehicle accident. Upon arrival, the CFD assisted with traffic control and roadway cleanup. There were no injuries to report. The CFD then cleared the scene.

At 4:00 p.m., the CFD responded to Section 25 of Hammond Township for a report of a small grassfire. Upon arrival, the CFD was able to contain the fire and protect some surrounding structures. The CFD then extinguished the fire. Once the area was deemed safe, the CFD cleared the scene.

At 5:49 p.m., the CFD responded to the intersection of S Main St and 3rd Ave S for a report of a two-vehicle accident. Upon arrival, the CFD assisted with roadway cleanup. There were no injuries to report. The CFD then cleared the scene.
