‘Stranger Things’ stage production sets opening date in London

shutterstock_2183824555149991

The London stage production based on the hit Netflix series Stranger Things announced its cast and set preview dates, and its formal opening date. Stranger Things: The First Shadow is a prequel to the series, set in 1959. The play’s logline reads: “Hawkins, 1959: a regular town with regular worries. Young Jim Hopper’s (Lloyd) car won’t start, Bob Newby’s (Buckley) sister (Williams) won’t take his radio show seriously and Joyce Maldonado (Pappas) just wants to graduate and get the hell out of town. When new student Henry Creel (McCartney) arrives, his family finds that a fresh start isn’t so easy … and the shadows of the past have a very long reach.”

The stage production will begin previews on Nov. 17 at the Phoenix Theatre in London’s West End, with an opening date set for Dec. 14.   The play is written by Kate Telfry and directed by Stephen Daldry with co-director Justin Martin, are underway. Daldry and Martin said in a statement: “It’s a joy to discover the world of Stranger Things: The First Shadow with our ferociously talented cast and watch the alchemy amongst our entire company grow as we together explore this new play. They’re an extraordinarily gifted group of actors, and we can’t wait to share this origin story with audiences.”

Stranger Things: The First Shadow stars Shane Attwooll, Christopher Buckley, Michael Jibson, Oscar Lloyd, Louis McCartney, Isabella Pappas, Patrick Vaill, Lauren Ward and Ella Karuna Williams. Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer said: “The cast of ‘Stranger Things: The First Shadow’ is nothing short of phenomenal. These actors brilliantly explore the early days of many fan favorites — including Hopper, Joyce, Bob, Henry and Dr. Brenner — while also bringing new characters to vivid life. We couldn’t be more thrilled and can’t wait for you to meet them all live on stage. See you in London, nerds!”

Joshua Jackson and Jodie Turner-Smith split after nearly 4 years of marriage

shutterstock_2275546671802840

Joshua Jackson and Jodie Turner-Smith are splitting after nearly 4 years of marriage. Jodie and Joshua tied the knot in 2019, one year after meeting at Usher’s 40th birthday party. It was the first marriage for both.

According to court documents, Turner-Smith, 37, filed for divorce from Jackson, 45, citing irreconcilable differences as the reason for the breakup, and listed their separation date as Sept. 13. Turner-Smith has requested joint custody for the couple’s 3-year-old daughter, and asked the court to terminate its ability to award spousal support to either party.

The news of the couple’s split comes shortly after their most recent public outing at the launch of Lotus’ new Emeya electric vehicle in New York City on Sept. 7.  They also celebrated Jodie’s birthday in Manhattan and were seen together at a J. Crew event for New York Fashion Week at Pier 17.

The Red Lake Falls Eagles hosted the Badger-Greenbush-Middle River Gators in a Section 8A matchup in Red Lake Falls. All three sets were within 5 points, but Badger-Greenbush-Middle River would pick up the win 3-0 (25-21, 26-24, 25-20).

FIRST SET– The Red Lake Falls Eagles got a torrid start by winning six of the first seven points, thanks to a pair of Shandi Nelson kills. BGMR responded with an ace from Ada Lee, which drew them within 8-5. RLF would return with several Elizabeth Lytle kills, but the Gators wouldn’t disappear. BGMR tied the first set at 13 with a Kenzie Dahl kill, and Dahl gave the Gators the lead at 15-14 with another kill. The set would be tied at 16, 19, then 21; however, the Gators would go on a 4-0 run to close out the first set, 25-21.

SECOND SET– BGMR started the second set by taking the lead quickly and hanging on to the lead until Red Lake Falls tied it up at 15 a piece. Dahl would find her rhythm in the second set with multiple kills, and Kylie Snare would chip in with a few kills of her own. Red Lake Falls’s Shandi Nelson and Jordan Wieland had kills in the middle of the second set to help rally the Eagles to tie the set. The excitement would get turned up to another level as the teams would tie at 15, 16, 17, 18, and 19. After another Dahl kill to give the Gators a 21-19 lead, Elizabeth Lytle got a crucial kill, and the Eagles would win another point to tie the set again at 21. After another Wieland kill, the Eagles would take a 23-21 lead, but BGMR rallied back to tie the set at 23. Libero Mya Bennet got an ace to make it 24-23, but another kill from Wieland would tie the set at 24. Zairyn Wimpfheimer added a kill to make it 25-24, and the Gators would get the next point to end the riveting second set, 26-24.

THIRD SET– The third set started with a bang as Wimpfheimer secured three consecutive aces to get the Gators a quick 3-0 lead. With the Eagles trailing 5-1, Coach Gullingsrud decided to call an early timeout, which helped spark the Eagles momentarily as they won the following three points to make it 5-4, but the Gators would pull away to have a lead of six at 15-9. Both teams would trade points, with the Eagles getting the set as close as 17-14 at one point, but kills from Dahl and Snare would help build the Gators lead up to 23-16. Lytle had back-to-back kills, which forced a BGMR timeout at 23-19. Out of the timeout, the Eagles’ Reese Paulen got an ace to make it 23-20, but BGMR would win the following two points to claim the set and match.

Red Lake Falls would drop to 3-12, while Badger-Greenbush-Middle River would improve to 14-7 and are now on a 5-match win streak.

J.V. – RLF won 2-0 (25-16, 25-23)  C-squad – RLF Won 2-0 (25-16, 25-19)

HOUSTON AVENUE AND ALEXANDER STREET PROJECT UPDATES

city-of-crookston-logo-e1695659778212630448

Alexander Street and Houston Ave are now available for use. Both projects are near completion as of last week.

Alexander Street recently went through a complete road reconstruction. This included the removal of the entire pre-existing road. “They took out sidewalk to sidewalk and replaced all of the surfaces,” said Utilities Director Brandon Carlson, “So it got new curbs, new black top, new street, and now it has a new sidewalk on the east side of the street.”

The water main was replaced on Alexander Street in 2022, and typically the city will reconstruct the street one year after completion to allow the road to settle during the winter months. The final step to the Alexander Street project is to install Sod next to the sidewalks. This is estimated to be completed within the next three weeks.

Houston Ave now has its new water main installed and is yet to receive a favorable bid for the road reconstruction. “Next year, it will be bid out for reconstruction, similar to Alexander,” said Carlson, “That all was designed this year. The bids came in high, so it got put on hold for a year; we’re going to try and bid that earlier this year, maybe December or January, for our street improvements and see if we can get a better price.”

Houston Ave now has six inches of asphalt and gravel mixture located in the trench, which was dug for the water main. Houston Ave will remain as is until the whole road reconstruction is in place.
