Bryan Tanaka confirms split from Mariah Carey after 7 years together

Mariah Carey at the 2018 American Music Awards at the Microsoft Theatre LA Live.

Mariah Carey and Bryan Tanaka have ended their relationship after seven years together.

Tanaka, 40, confirmed his split from Carey, 54, in a statement on social media: “With mixed emotions, I share this personal update regarding my amicable separation from Mariah Carey after seven extraordinary years together. Our decision to embark on different paths is mutual, and as we navigate these separate journeys, we do so with profound respect and an overwhelming sense of gratitude for the invaluable time we’ve shared. The memories we’ve created and the artistic collaborations are etched in my heart forever. Mariah’s dedication to her family and her commitment to her craft have inspired us during our shared journey. I want to express my love and appreciation for Mariah and her incredible children, whose warmth and kindness have enriched my life in ways words cannot express. I eagerly anticipate continuing my journey, knowing my passion for inspiration, dance, and the creative arts will resonate in the unfolding chapters.” Carey shares twins Monroe and Moroccan, 12, with ex-husband Nick Cannon.

Carey and Tanaka were first linked in 2016; rumors they had split began this month after Tanaka did not join Carey on her Merry Christmas One and All! tour, as he had done in the past.

CROOKSTON PIRATE BOYS HOCKEY BEATS BISMARCK 5-0

The Crookston Pirate Boys Hockey team had a busy day offensively as they defeated the Bismarck Demons by a score of 5-0 in a game played at the Ralph Engelstad Arena in Thief River Falls.

FIRST PERIOD
Crookston ran into trouble early as they committed a holding penalty, and Bismarck went on the power play one minute into the game. The Pirates were able to kill the penalty but soon became short-handed again when they committed another holding penalty five minutes later. Crookston was able to limit the amount of shots against them while down a man and they killed another penalty.
The Pirates had 10 shots on goal in the period but were unable to get one in the back of the net. The two teams went into the first intermission with the game scoreless.

SECOND PERIOD
Crookston continued to put pressure on the Bismarck goal, and 7:28 into the second period, they broke through for their first goal of the game. Kadin Edwards received a pass from Riley Benson and Teegan Lubinski, and he buried it to give the Pirates a 1-0 lead.
Bismarck began to pick up their offense as well, getting seven shots on net in the second period, but Parker Kelly saved every single one. Crookston got another goal when Jackson Reese received a pass from Lubinski, and he put it in the back of the net to give Crookston a 2-0 lead.
It didn’t take long for Crookston to get back on the board, as just under a minute later, Conner Hanson scored his first varsity goal off a pass from Ty Larson and Lubinski. That goal gave the Pirates a 3-0 lead, which they took into the second intermission.

THIRD PERIOD
Crookston got off to a fast start in the third, as just 19 seconds into the period, Lubinski scored a goal off a pass from Garrett Fischer to give the Pirates a 4-0 lead. Just under two minutes later, Lubinski, who was involved in all five goals, as well as Tate Hamre, gave a pass to Greyson Ecker, and he scored to give the Pirates a 5-0 lead.
Both teams began to slow down on offense, as the Pirates only had six shots in the third period. Bismarck also had six shots on net in the period, but Kelly saved them all to preserve the shutout. Both teams got called for a penalty with under two and a half minutes remaining, but otherwise, Crookston cruised the rest of the way to a 5-0 victory.

Crookston improves to 5-3-0 on the season and will take on Lake of the Woods on tomorrow in Thief River Falls. Bismarck falls to 1-7 on the season and takes on Theif River Falls tomorrow.

BENEDICTINE LIVING COMMUNITY-CROOKSTON CONTINUES LIGHT UP A LIFE DISPLAY

The Benedictine Living Community Crookston Auxiliary is accepting donations for its annual Light Up A Life Display.

This event is sponsored by the Crookston Auxiliary, where the Benedictine Living Community displays the Light Up A Life at their facility. “We have the stairwell all lit up; we’ve done Christmas trees and different things each year,” said Foundation and Marketing Coordinator Cassie Rudie, “People can donate a gift of five dollars, and it will light up a bulb. You can do this in honor of someone or memory of someone.”

Your gift of $5 will light up a bulb in memory of a friend, loved one, or someone living whom you wish to honor. To donate, you can mail the checks payable to Benedictine Auxiliary, 516 Walsh, Crookston, MN. 56716, or you can stop by the facility on either the Villa or Summit side with cash or check and the name(s) of the individuals you would like to honor written down.

Donations will go towards the Benedictine Living Community and the Crookston Auxiliary. “The Auxiliary will be allocating all of the funds to the annual appeal that we are doing with the foundation toward our Wander Guard System,” said Rudie, “All of the funds we raised during our glow golf tournament and all of our funds that will be raised during Light Up A Life will go toward our Wander Guard System.”

The current Wander Guard System at Benedictine is nearly twenty years old, and parts that need replacement are no longer available for purchase. The Wander Guard System is a bracelet device intended to keep residents safe if they walk outside. When residents exit the building, the staff is alerted on their bracelets immediately, and they can assist.

“We are in need of some new technology, and we got a new call-light system a couple of years ago,” said Rudie, “This new Wander Guard System will be able to integrate with the call-light system and work together. This is a needed opportunity for us at Benedictine Living Community-Crookston, and we’re so thankful that the Auxiliary also sees the need here and is so generous to donate these funds toward that project.”

The Light Up A Life Display will be lit from dusk to dawn until January 5. Everybody is welcome to drive by the Benedictine Living facility in Crookston and view the display.

ADAM ARRIAGA BUILDS NEW SHELVES FOR HIGH SCHOOL TROPHY CASE

Adam Arriaga, a senior at Crookston High School taking Travis Oliver’s Advanced Woods class, took on a unique project of making new shelves for the entryway trophy case. The current shelves did not have an edge on the front, so the awards kept falling off and getting damaged. Athletic Director Nate Lubarski asked if there was a student who would want to complete this project.

Adam made the shelves from Poplar. He measured, cut, sanded, stained, and put poly on the shelves. Next time you are at the high school, check it out.

FBI investigating threats against Colorado Supreme Court after ban of Trump from state ballots

Colorado Supreme Court and Colorado Court of Appeals exterior

The FBI and police in Colorado are investigating threats against that state’s Supreme Court after they ruled that they will block Donald Trump from appearing on the primary ballot in March.

The ruling has led to an increase in threats made against the justices, with the Denver Police Department increasing patrols around the homes of Colorado supreme court justices.  The judges’ personal information has been shared on some far-right social media platforms, as well as the platform Truth Social, the site started by Donald Trump, and X, (formerly known as Twitter).

The justices have reported a number of threats since the decision came down more than a week ago, which included users calling for the justices to be killed and describing how to do it.ore frequently on social media.  Vikki Migoya, an FBI spokesperson, said in a statement: “The FBI is aware of the situation and working with local law enforcement. We will vigorously pursue investigations of any threat or use of violence committed by someone who uses extremist views to justify their actions regardless of motivation.”

Trump’s eligibility to appear on the ballot has been challenged in several states under Section Three of the 14th Amendment, including Minnesota, Michigan and New Hampshire. New Hampshire is one of four early-voting states in the primary election.

Apple pulls sale of newer Apple Watches after White House declines to veto ban

new Apple Watch Ultra. new features with fitness tracking^ health-oriented capabilities^ and wireless telecommunication.

The White House declined to veto a ban on some Apple Watch imports, upholding the ruling won by a health company that accused Apple of patent infringement for copying its technology.  The Office of US Trade Representative Katherine Tai said in a statement: “After careful consultations, Ambassador [Katherine] Tai decided not to reverse the ITC’s determination and the ITC’s decision became final on Dec. 26, 2023”

As a result, Apple can no longer sell the Watch Series 9 and Watch Ultra 2 in the U.S. Apple pulled both devices from its website on December 21st and from its store shelves after December 24th.

The International Trade Commission sided with the health technology company Masimo Corp. in October, who alleged that some features on the Apple Watch Series 6 smartphone were their tech originally. Masimo said Apple had hired away some of its key employees and stole trade secrets connected wot its light-based technology for calculating blood-oxygen levels, which also appeared on the Apple Watch smartphone. The tech company filed a complaint with the International Trade Commission in 2021.

Apple said it would start phasing out sales of Apple Watch models after it failed to win a delay of the ban from the ITC last wee, and ended sales of its Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 on Thursday — pulled items from physical retail stores by Saturday.

In a statement published by Reuters, an Apple spokesperson confirmed it will appeal the ITC decision: “We strongly disagree with the USITC decision and resulting exclusion order, and are taking all measures to return Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 to customers in the U.S. as soon as possible.”
