Lady Gaga filming 'Joker: Folie a Deux' at the New York County Supreme Court in New York on March 26^ 2023

New photos of Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix have been released from the highly-anticipated Joker: Folie à Deux, with director Todd Phillips posting on social media“Wishing everyone a happy holiday and a beautiful new year. Oct 2024 #Joker2”

Phillips revealed new photos of Gaga (as Harley Quinn) and Phoenix (as the Joker); the first image appears to show Phoenix, as Arthur Fleck, behind bars, and the second photo shows Gaga gazing at the Joker.

Joker: Folie à Deux also stars Zazie Beetz and Brendan Gleeson, and serves as a sequel to the Joker movie that released in 2019, with many details about the plot remain under wraps. Prior to the latest photos, Gaga had previously shared sneak peeks from the film, including a photo teasing her role as Harley Quinn earlier this year that she captioned on Instagram, “That’s a wrap,” signing it, “X, Harleen.”

Joker: Folie à Deux is expected to make its debut on October 4, 2024.

CROOKSTON WAYS AND MEANS COMMITTEE MEET AND REVEIW CITY ADMINISTRATOR SEARCH

The Crookston Ways and Means Committee met on Monday night in the City Hall council chambers following the City Council meeting, which held further discussion regarding the City Administrator Search.

City Administrator Corky Reynolds believes the search for a new administrator has been a smooth process thus far. “This began some months ago when the council asked if I would solicit potential firms,” said Reynolds, “To search for someone to be my replacement as City Administrator. The council has selected Baker Tilly to conduct the search to be that firm to search for the replacement.”

Reynolds has worked with Baker Tilly and developed guidelines, and the council has since received questionnaires regarding characteristics and the qualities needed to serve as the Crookston City Administrator. It was determined at the meeting that Baker Tilly would conduct in-person interviews with each city council member, Mayor Dale Stainbrook, and Corky Reynolds. The applicants can also interview via video chat with Zoom or Skype.

“Once all of the interviews are completed, and the questionnaires are completed, then Baker Tilly’s representative will construct a profile,” said Reynolds, “This will run through February and release nationwide and seek a replacement for me as City Administrator.”

The following steps in the hiring process from Baker Tilly will include analysis regarding the applicants and receiving letters of interest from each applicant. The council is searching for ten to twelve potential candidates by April 2024.

The council is projecting the annual salary for a City Administrator to be in the amount of $125,000 to $150,000.

CROOKSTON CITY COUNCIL APPROVES PREPERATION OF 2024 STREET IMPROVEMENT REPORT

The Crookston City Council met on Monday in the City Hall council chambers.

The meeting began with the council reviewing the resolution regarding approving Intermediary Relending Program (IRP) loan guidelines. The currently possesses money that can be made available for re-lending with application approval of small local businesses. “These funds are originally from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). Some time ago, the city borrowed money from the USDA,” said City Administrator Corky Reynolds, “They were mainly loans, and they have been paid off. So from earning these loans, the city has money to lend mainly to businesses.”

Businesses that can apply for the funds include newly created businesses, businesses wishing to retain jobs, or businesses looking to make capital improvements. The council established the criteria by which applicants would be judged to make recommendations to approve or deny such applications.

The final item approved on the main agenda was the resolution ordering the preparation of the preliminary engineer’s report for the 2024 street improvements in the city of Crookston. “What the council did tonight was just to call for the city engineer to prepare preliminary reports about designated roadways to be reconstructed,” said Reynolds, “And also what needs to be done and why.”

Over the next two weeks, the city engineer will present a written report, and the city council will have the opportunity to review it. If the council accepts the reports, they can search for bids and receive quotes on the street improvements. The Houston Avenue road is one of the highlighted street improvements for 2024, and it is projected to see a complete reconstruction.

The consent agenda included the approval of minutes from the December 20 city council meeting and the approval of bills and disbursements in the amount of $464,966.03. The consent agenda also included the approval of resolutions regarding a donation for Kids First in 2023, the resolution regarding designating depositories for public funds in 2024, the resolution to appoint Tanner Holten as the City Attorney for 2024, the resolution to appoint Rich Clauson as the City Engineer for 2024, the resolution regarding the approval of the license renewals for 2024, the resolution to designate the City of Crookston Website and Crookston Times as the official newspaper of 2024, the resolution regarding the Confidence Learning Center Application for lawful gambling premises permit at the Crookston Eagles, the resolution providing grants to non-profit organizations for the 2024 calendar year, the resolution regarding appointing the boards or commissioners for 2024, and the resolution regarding the approval of the City Council Committee composition for 2024.

The next city council will take place on Monday, January 22, at 5:30 p.m. in the City Hall council chambers.

UMC AWARDED CARNEGIE ELECTIVE CLASSIFICATION FOR COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT AWARD

The University of Minnesota Crookston has been awarded the Carnegie Elective Classification for Community Engagement and joins the other U of M campuses to be the country’s first and only university system where every individual campus has received this selective designation. The Twin Cities received their recognitions in 2006 and 2015, Morris in 2015, and Duluth and Rochester during the 2023-2024 school year alongside Crookston.

Of the nearly 4,000 qualifying U.S. universities and colleges, this prestigious recognition has been granted to only 368 institutions. Administered by the American Council on Education and the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, the classification requires evidence-based documentation of institutional policies and practices that support dynamic and noteworthy university-community engagement.

“The Carnegie classification is quite an honor to achieve,” Crookston Chancellor Mary Holz-Clause stated. “It is a strong testament to the active and engaged university community involved in the community and region.”

These distinctions shine a singular spotlight on the U of Minnesota nationally and meet a stated goal in the University’s comprehensive, systemwide strategic plan (MPact 2025) for all campuses to earn this classification.

“With five campuses — in addition to Extension, research and outreach centers, and partnerships in each of Minnesota’s 87 counties — the U of Minnesota serves all Minnesotans,” said Interim President Jeff Ettinger. “We are proud to be a national leader in community engagement and to see the dedication of faculty and students at all campuses reflected in this designation, as well as in the important progress on the University’s strategic goals.”

In addition to building institutional solid structures supporting community engagement, accomplishments highlighted in the recent applications include Crookston’s commitment to community partnerships related to economic development; Duluth’s award-winning community-engaged work ranging from food security to sustainability; and Rochester’s health-centered partnerships, community-integrated campus environment and community-based learning requirement for all students.

“Robust public engagement and mutually beneficial community partnerships are increasingly recognized as critical to the University’s teaching, research, and outreach missions, as well as to students, scholars, legislators, funders and Minnesotans in general,” said Laurie Van Egergen, vice provost for Public Engagement. “Community engagement deepens learning for students and is an important way to apply University resources to complex social, environmental, and economic problems.”
