CROOKSTON P.D RESPONDS TO WOMEN THAT COLLAPSED IN THE POLK COUNTY GOVERNMENT CENTER

On Thursday, at approximately 1:06 p.m., the Crookston Police Department responded to a woman who had collapsed at the Polk County Government Center.

“We had multiple officers from the police department respond to it,” said Crookston Police Department Deputy Chief Nathan Nelson, “She was breathing and alert; shortly after, the Crookston area ambulance arrived and took control of the scene. The patient was ultimately transferred to Riverview, and that was the conclusion of the police department’s involvement with it.”

Nelson also commented that this was a routine medical call. During this time, there were several other medical calls, which helped explain the many siren calls citizens may have witnessed.

Disney shareholders reject investor Nelson Peltz’s bid for Board of Directors

Disney CEO Bob Iger at Museum of Modern Art in New York on January 23^ 2024

At Disney’s virtual 2024 meeting of shareholders on Wednesday, members rejected nominees allied with activist investor Nelson Peltz‘s effort to win seats on their Board of Directors. Peltz, 81 who heads investment firm Trian Partners, failed to get enough votes in his favor to clinch a board seat (as did Trian’s other nominee, ex-Disney Jay Rasulo).

The company announced that the majority of shareholders voted in support of a 12-person slate of board nominees put forward by Disney (including CEO Bob Iger), ending a months-long proxy battle centered on the company’s navigation of the onset of the streaming era. Trian Partners had leveraged its standing as one of Disney’s largest shareholders to carry out a high-profile campaign critical of the company’s growth strategy. Peltz sought board seats for himself as well as former Disney Chief Financial Officer Jay Rasulo, calling on shareholders to deliver them the seats currently held by Maria Elena Lagomasino and Michael Froman.

Per Variety, preliminary results show that Iger won reelection with 94% of the votes cast in his favor, with Peltz receiving just 31% and Rasulo much less. Maria Elena Lagomasino, the incumbent Disney director, received twice as many votes as Peltz and five times as many as Rasulo. Investors voted on three competing board candidate slates — Disney’s own recommended 12-member lineup; Trian’s nominees, Peltz and Rasulo; and three from investment firm Blackwells Capital, which also did not get enough votes to win board seats.

Iger said in a statement: “I want to thank our shareholders for their trust and confidence in our board and management. With the distracting proxy contest now behind us, we’re eager to focus 100% of our attention on our most important priorities: growth and value creation for our shareholders and creative excellence for our consumers.”

Two brothers plead guilty to insider trading related to Trump Media merger

Truth Social app logo seen on the smartphone and blurred TMTG logo on the laptop.

Two brothers pleaded guilty on Wednesday to insider trading in securities in the company that ultimately took former President Donald Trump’s media business public.

According to federal prosecutors in New York, Michael Shvartsman, 53, and Gerald Shvartsman, 46, made millions by trading in shares of Digital World Acquisition Corporation before it merged with Trump Media. Michael Shvartsman, head of Miami-based venture capital firm Rocket One Capital, and Gerald Shvartsman, 46, each pleaded guilty to one count of securities fraud before U.S. District Judge Lewis Liman in Manhattan. Rocket One’s chief investment officer, Bruce Garelick, is scheduled to face trial on related charges on April 29.

Reuters reports that prosecutors charged the trio last year with illegally trading on inside information about Trump Media & Technology Group’s (TMTG) plan to go public through a merger with a blank-check company. TMTG operates Truth Social, Trump’s main social media platform.  It is alleged that the trio signed confidentiality agreements in June 2021, when they were approached to become early investors in Digital World Acquisition, the blank-check company, which required them to keep information they learned confidential and not trade the company’s securities in the open market.  Prosecutors say that after hearing the company was in merger talks with TMTG, the trio tipped others and bought Digital World securities, selling them after the deal was announced on Oct. 20, 2021, to make a total of $22 million in illegal profit.

Per ABC News, each of the men face up to 20 years in prison when they’re sentenced in July, but prosecutors have agreed to recommend a sentence of about three years. There was no evidence that former President Trump was aware of the brothers’ conduct, and he was not part of the case.

SPORTS FEEVER – April 4, 2024

SPORTS FEEVER by Chris Fee of KROX Radio – chrisjfee@yahoo.com

I have officially entered my name into the Transfer Portal. I am hoping a Radio Station at St. Pete Beach, Florida; Fort Meyers, Florida; Marco Island, Florida. Or the Florida Keys (Key West) are all areas I will accept an offer. If I don’t get an offer, I will withdraw my name from the portal and stay at KROX. We will see what happens. I figured I was going to be like the younger generations and college coaches, and my new motto is “Screw loyalty!!!”

All joking aside, the transfer portal is ruining college sports along with NIL.  They have completely ruined college sports.  Schools that aren’t in the power five conferences are screwed. Schools like NDSU, UND, South Dakota, South Dakota State, and others like them that aren’t big-time schools are in trouble. They are going to lose their top players to major programs, and that is already happening.  Basically, the Summit League/Missouri Valley are turning into a minor league where good players move up.

It will be interesting to see what happens over the next couple of years in the NCAA.

The Crookston Pirate Baseball team hosted the Ada-Borup-West Cougars in the earliest high school baseball game I have broadcast in my career. Looking back to 2008, it was the earliest game Crookston had played in three days. Let’s hope all spring sports can have a full and weather cooperates this season!!!

— — —

The Minnesota Timberwolves are currently the top team in the Western Conference.
The Wolves and Denver, as of Wednesday night, are tied for the best record in the West at 53-23 overall, but the T-Wolves have the tie-breaker with Denver. There are only eight games left in the regular season and the schedule is more than favorable for Minnesota.  I am not getting too excited, but they have a great chance of making a run. We shall see.

The Minnesota Wild have an outside chance of making the playoffs with eight games left in the regular season. They are six points behind L.A. and have games against Colorado, Winnipeg, Chicago, Colorado, Vegas, San Jose, L.A. (could be a huge game), and Seattle.
St. Louis is still between L.A. and the Wild so they will likely have to win no less than six of the remaining eight games if they even want to have a chance to make the playoffs.

Women’s College Basketball is the top ticket in sports right now. Iowa-LSU’s Monday night game had an average of 12.3 million viewers. That number is more than the following –
• Every women’s college basketball game ever
• Every ESPN college basketball game ever
• Every MLB game last season
• Every NHL game last season
• Every MLS game last season
• Every NBA game last season except one
• Every CFB regular season game last season except one (Michigan vs Ohio State)

Great news for Minnesota Golden Gopher Men’s Hockey fans. Jimmy Snuggerud has announced he will be coming back for his Junior season next year. Hopefully he doesn’t pull a Logan Cooley and sign an NHL contract in the summer after saying he was coming back.

St. Louis Blues President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Doug Armstrong released the following statement after Jimmy Snuggerud announced his decision to remain at the University of Minnesota for another season: “After talking to Jimmy and his family the past couple days, the organization fully supports his decision to commit to another season at the University of Minnesota. The Augustana Viking Men’s Basketball team will have a new head coach after Tom Billeter announced his resignation to take a job elsewhere. It didn’t take long for Augustana to announce the new head coach as they announced Cody Schilling, a 2012 graduate of Augustana, becomes the 16th head coach in Augustana’s 103-year history. Schilling played high school basketball for Ellsworth, Minnesota before going to Augustana to play.
An All-America honoree in his playing days, Schilling served as the head coach at Mount Marty for two seasons. In one of the best turnarounds in the nation, the team he recruited won 20 games in the 2019-20 season. In his first season with MMU, the Lancers won more games than the three previous seasons combined.
“It is a dream come true to be the next head coach at home, Augustana University,” Schilling said. “This place means more to me and my family than I can put into words and I cannot wait to bring more energy and excitement to Viking men’s basketball. This is a relationship business and I am fortunate to continue to serve and lead our student-athletes on and off the floor. I want to continue to recruit student-athletes who will best represent Augustana and our program in the community, classroom and on the basketball court.”

McPherson walked into a bar and ordered martini after martini, each time removing the olives and placing them in a jar. When the jar was filled with olives and all the drinks consumed, the Irishman started to leave.

“Excuse me,” said another bar patron, who was puzzled over what McPherson had done. “What was that all about?”

“Nothing,” said the Irishman, “my wife sent me out for a jar of olives.”

Sitting on the edge of the highway waiting to catch speeders, a state police officer saw a car driving along at 22 M.P.H. He thinks to himself, that car is just as dangerous as a speeder. So, he turns his lights on and pulls the car over. Approaching the car, he notices there are 5 old ladies, two at the front and 3 at the back, wide eyed and looking like ghosts.

The driver, obviously confused, said, “Officer, I don’t understand, Iwasn’t doing over the speed limit! What did you pull me over for?”

“Ma’am,” the officer said, “You should know that driving slower than the speed limit can also be dangerous”.

“Slower than the speed limit? No sir! I was doing exactly 22 miles an hour”, the old woman said proudly.

The officer, trying not to laugh, explains that 22 is the route number, not the speed limit. A little embarrassed, the woman smiled and thanked the officer for pointing out her error.

“Before I go Ma’am, I have to ask, is everyone ok? These women seem badly shaken and haven’t said a word since I pulled you over.”

“Oh! they’ll be all right in a minute, officer. We just got off Route142”
