UMC BASEBALL TAKING ON MINNESOTA-DULUTH

The University of Minnesota Crookston (UMC) Golden Eagles Baseball team used a solid offensive, defensive, and pitching performance to beat the University of Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs 12-4 in the first game of a Northern Sun Conference doubleheader played on a cool and windy day in Crookston.

GAME ONE
UMC hammered three home runs on their way to a way to a 12-4 victory in the first game of the doubleheader.

FIRST INNING
UMC pitcher Jake Osowski (Sr. East Grand Forks) had a great start as he retired Duluth in 1-2-3 fashion. UMC’s bats got going with the first batter as Sawyer Satrom (Soph. Portland, ND) led off with a single. The next two batters were retired before Jake Hjelle (Sr. East Grand Forks) hit a two-run homerun for a 2-0 lead.

SECOND INNING
Duluth had a one-out single before the next two batters were retired. Crookston’s Mitch Goodwin walked, and Kobe Senn doubled to score a run. Satrom singled to score a run, and Caden Headlee doubled to score a run for a 5-0 lead.

THIRD INNING
Duluth led the inning off with a double. After the next two Bulldog batters were retired, the next batter walked. The Bulldogs would get on the board after a single drove in a run, and a double drove in another run to cut the Golden Eagle lead to 5-2.
Josh Dykhoff (Soph. Wadena) led off the bottom of the inning with a solo home run for a 6-2 lead.

FOURTH INNING
Duluth had a one-out solo homerun to get within a 6-2 deficit. Crookston answered in the bottom of the inning as Satrom reached on an error and advanced to second base. Headlee doubled to score a run for a 7-3 lead. Teddy Giefer walked before Hjelle singled to score a run for an 8-3 lead.

FIFTH INNING
The first two Duluth batters flew out. After a walk, the next Bulldog struck out.
UMC added some more runs in the bottom of the inning as the first two batters struck out and the Golden Eagles put a two-out rally together. Kobe Senn singled, Satrom doubled to score a run, and Headlee crushed a shot over the centerfield fence for a two-run home run, and UMC led 11-3.

SIXTH INNING
Duluth had a one-out double. After a flyout, they had a single to score a run to get within an 11-4 deficit.
Crookston scored an insurance run in the bottom of the inning when Hjelle and Dykhoff singled. After a strikeout, Danny Wensloff hit a sacrifice fly to center field to knock in a run for a 12-4 lead.

SEVENTH INNING
Duluth tried a late rally with two one-out singles before the next two batters flew out, and UMC won the game 12-4.
