Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie teaming up again for new reality series

PARIS HILTON & NICOLE RICHIE at the 2004 Teen Choice Awards at Universal Studios^ Hollywood. August 8^ 2004

Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie are reuniting for a new reality series on Peacock, more than two decades after launching the era of reality TV with their classic show, The Simple Life. The Simple Life first premiered on Fox in 2003; the show later moved to E! and concluded in 2007.

Hilton, 43, and Richie, 42, shared a teaser for their Peacock reality show, showing a TV screen filled with static as Hilton and Richie’s voices are heard in the background. The caption reads“New era. Same besties. Coming soon to Peacock.” Paris and Nicole can be heard singing through a static television in the accompanying video — a reference of a popular gag from their former reality series.

Hilton and Richie sparked speculation about a reunion last week after they shared a collage of photos from throughout their friendship, along with a caption reading: “From Day 1: Sill and Bill.”

CROOKSTON WAYS AND MEANS COMMITTEE DISCUSSES INDUSTRIAL PARK RAILROAD SPUR PROJECT

The Crookston Ways and Means Committee met Tuesday evening following the City Council meeting in the Council Chambers in City Hall.

The agenda included information on an industrial park railroad spur project and a discussion on the new City Administrator’s contractual terms.

RAILROAD SPUR PROJECT
The Industrial Park Railroad Spur project has been in the works for some time and it is starting to become a reality with grant funding awarded to the City of Crookston and Minnesota Northern Railroad. Crookston Housing and Economic Development Authority Executive Director Kari Kirschbaum said the City wasn’t comfortable being the owner of the railroad spur and Minnesota Northern Railroad agreed to be the owner and applied for grant funding and received $1.56 million. “The Minnesota Railroad Improvement grant was awarded to Minnesota Northern Railroad and originally we started looking at putting a railroad spur on the industrial park earlier this year,” said Kirschbaum. “The City was pretty hesitant to own it as nobody really wanted that to happen so Minnesota Northern put in a grant request and they will be owning the railroad spur and that was awarded a couple of weeks ago so that is another investment that has come in.”

The rail spur project is being modeled after the Fosston project. Chet Bodine, with the State of Minnesota, has been working with Kirschbaum on the project for almost two years. Bodine worked with Fosston and said they were able to get funding through the EDA. The benefit of having a public railroad spur is it would help farmers and businesses in the region. “The way I understand it is the last public transload site was in Dilworth and closed in the 1990s,” said Bodine. “A lot of specialty crop growers don’t have a place nearby to take their stuff. Some are taking it to St. Paul to put on rail car there to go back west this way. We heard that enough times that we said let’s figure something out and the AIC (Ag Innovation Campus) was a big advocate saying this would benefit the region so we pushed it.”

The city will apply for a USEDA grant of about $3 million. Still, as a condition of that grant, Crookston would have to match the grant 1:1. The city’s potential plan is to apply for a BDPI grant of roughly $2 million, so the city of Crookston would only have to come up with a remaining $1-1.3 million dollars to complete the project. The funds would be needed for roadways and infrastructure in the new industrial park. The purpose will be to entice new businesses to build around the improved area.

Sean Ranum of the Northwest Regional Development Program said the City currently sees tax revenue of $136,600 a year in the current Industrial Park of 81 acres. The new Industrial Park is 90 acres and if fully developed could be a big economic impact for the City of Crookston. Ranum added that the Ag Innovation Center paid over $18,000 in taxes last year on a 10 acre space. He added that revenues would be higher with new builds.

CITY ADMINISTRATOR CONTRACT DETAILS
The committe discussed contractual terms for Jeff Shoobridge, the selected candidate for City Adminstrator. Shoobridge said he would start no later than July 15, 2024 and agreed to a salary of $135,000 per year with a review in six months. He is also requesting up to $5,000 for moving expenses with receipts required for reimbursement. He will also get six years seniority as part of his contract. The contract will be finalized and the City Council will vote on it at their next meeting on Monday, June 10.

CROOKSTON CITY COUNCIL MEMBER JOE KRESL ANNOUNCES RESIGNATION

The Crookston City Council met Monday evening in the Council Chambers in city hall.

During the meeting, City Council Member Joe Kresl announced he would resign effective May 31. Kresl will move with his family to Maple Lake but will remain working with the University of Minnesota Crookston as the facility’s head custodian. Kresl said he has enjoyed his time on the council. “Just seeing how things can move forward for the betterment of Crookston and just dealing with all the residents in Crookston,” said Kresl. “Trying to answer questions in the most honest way that you can for them. It’s very rewarding.”

AIRPORT IMPROVEMENT PROJECT
The council approved a grant application for an airport improvement project. The improvements in question for the airport project will be the addition of taxi lanes to the site for a potential T-Hangar. “We previously had a recommendation from the Airport Commission to authorize a request for proposals for bids for the construction of a T-Hangar and a pathway to the Hangar,” said Crookston City Administrator Corky Reynolds. “The bids were received and they were exceedingly high so they recommended we reject those bids and recommended that we have a bid proposal for just the pathways to the sight and potentially the earthwork for the sight. We had a meeting with SEH and they recommended that we not prepare the sight and we just have the taxi ways accepted and have those constructed this summer and that is this resolution.”

ALCOHOL LICENSE FOR AMERIVU INN AND SUITES
The council approved an alcohol license for Amerivu Inn & Suites, formerly Cobblestone Hotel & Suites.
The alcohol license is 3.2 for ADITI Inc., doing business as Amerivu Inn & Suites. Cobblestone sold its property and previously had a license, but it was non-transferable to the new owners.

The council approved the consent agenda, including the approval of the minutes from the May 13 meeting and the special city council meeting minutes from May 21. The council approved the disbursement of bills totaling $188,783.59. They also approved a license renewal for Cement Mason and finally accepted a donation from Paul Gregg for the City of Crookston Park and Rec.

RED RIVER TO CREST OVER MINOR FLOOD STAGE

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office is advising residents with the amount of rain that we have received, the Red River is forecasted to crest over minor flood stages during this week.

This may impact access to the lower trails along the river. Be careful around the river during this time, as it is usually closed to access while above minor flood stages.

Richard (Dick) Ambuehl – OBIT

Richard (Dick) Ambuehl, 83, Ada, MN, passed away on Saturday, May 25, 2024, at Benedictine Care Community in Ada.

Richard (Dick) Dean Ambuehl was born on February 19, 1941 to Martin and Alice (Regstad) Ambuehl in Ada, Minnesota; he was their only child.

Dick was raised, lived, and ran the family farm his entire life. He attended school and graduated from Borup High School in 1959. He took over the family farm after his father died of a farm accident when Dick was only 18 years old. He lovingly raised crops, livestock, and a family on this farm until he moved into the Benedictine Care Community in May of 2022.

Dick married the love of his life Arleen Hoven on August 25, 1962. She joined him on the farm where they raised crops, livestock, tomatoes, and children. They both loved farm life and seeing what they could grow. If anyone so much as said they were looking for tomatoes, they would receive a box full or more if they weren’t careful.

Dick and Arleen were married for 62 years where they raised three children: Annette (Larry Aabye) Moorhead, Barbara (Marlo Oistad) Detroit Lakes, and Dean (Stacia) Ambuehl Fargo. They also have six grandchildren: Reed (Yuliia), McKenzie, Zack, Jackson, Brady, and Piper. Dick and Arleen put on many miles traveling to athletic events, church programs, or anything their children and grandchildren were involved in. They loved it all but especially the sporting events.

Dick eventually retired from farming and entrusted his land to the “Tufte Boys”. He enjoyed farming from his recliner or driving out to check on the “boys” to offer advice, needed or not.

Dick and Arleen were avid Bison Fans attending many Bison sporting events throughout the years. Please continue to help him show his Bison Pride by wearing your Green and Gold to his celebration of life.

Celebration of Life Service: 2:00 PM, Friday, May 31, 2024 at Fredrikson-Ganje Funeral Home, Ada, MN.

Visitation: One hour before the service at the funeral home.
