Cole Larson managed his team to win two games in place of head coach Chris Nelson, who was in Mankato watching his daughter play in the Softball State Tournament.

Fosston would score a run in the bottom of the seventh to make it 6-5 Rebels lead, and with bases loaded, relief pitcher Ben Gullingsrud got a strike out and a fly ball to right field with the win. SIXTH INNING
Red Lake County had runners on first and third with one out, but a pop out to the catcher and fly out retired the Rebels with no runs.
Ada-Borup had runners at first and second off new Rebel pitcher Gunnar Halverson, who got a bounce out to first to end the inning and tied at 4-4 going into the seventh.

SEVENTH INNING
Brock Seeger led off with a walk for the Rebels, stole a base, and went to third on a throwing error.  Seeger scored on a Blake Audette bounce out on a fielder’s choice.  Audette would score the eventual winning run on a Breiland fielder’s choice to make it 6-4
Ada-Borup/West’s Will Christen singled to start the inning, followed by Jakob Rudie’s walk. The Rebels brought in Ben Gullingsrud in relief, and he hit Tanner Vig with a pitch to load the bases. Michael Mulry struck out, and Luke Sannes walked to bring in a run, which was 6-5. Gullingsrud slung back with a terrific fastball for the second out. Then, with the wind blowing out to right field, Ryne Duppong hit a ball that carried out toward right and going back, the Rebels Brock Seeger reached up and snared the ball to give the Rebels their second win of the day and a move to the Section 8A Championship.

Red Lake County improves to 17-6 on the year and will play in the Section 8A Championship against undefeated Sacred Heart at 2:00 PM at the Jim Karn Baseball Field in Crookston. Wisconsin AG charges three Trump associates in fake electors case

View of the door to the Office of the Attorney General of Wisconsin located inside the Wisconsin State Capitol building in Madison.

Three associates of former President Donald Trump associates, who were allegedly tied to Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election, have been charged with forgery in Wisconsin.

Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul filed felony charges against Kenneth Chesbro, former Dane County Judge Jim Troupis, and Mike Roman in Dane County Circuit Court.  Chesbro is accused of hatching the plan, Troupis represented Trump in Wisconsin and Roman delivered the paperwork of fake electors to a Pennsylvania congressional staffer to hand them off to then-Vice President Mike Pence on Jan. 6. All three were working for Trump in 2020 during Trump’s effort to take the state’s electoral votes.

Wisconsin is one of five states that have charged individuals for taking part in an elaborate scheme to approve fake electors for Trump in states where Biden won the vote.  The fake elector’s plan is one of the foundations for charges brought against Trump by special counsel Jack Smith in his Washington, D.C., case. That case is currently on hold while the Supreme Court decides if Trump’s claim of absolute immunity is warranted.

Cheseboro and Roman are also named as co-conspirators in similar election cases in Arizona and Georgia, while Troupis has been cited in Wisconsin only.

President Biden signs executive order banning migrants who cross southern border illegally

U.S. Customs and Border Patrol vehicle drives along the U.S.-Mexico border. El Paso^ Texas / USA - March 7^ 2020

On Tuesday, President Joe Biden signed a new executive order on immigration that bars asylum to migrants who cross the southern border unlawfully, and temporarily shut down asylum requests once the average number of daily encounters tops 2,500 between official ports of entry.

The White House announced online: “These actions will be in effect when high levels of encounters at the southern border exceed our ability to deliver timely consequences,” saying that the policy change “will make it easier for immigration officers to remove those without a lawful basis to remain and reduce the burden on our border patrol agents.”

Biden’s executive order suspends entry of non-citizens who illegally cross the southern border and makes it easier to remove those who cross when the southern border is “overwhelmed” and to remove respective migrants who “do not have a legal basis to remain in the United States.” The executive order limiting the unlawful daily crossings to an average of 2,500 “will be discontinued when the number of migrants who cross the border between ports of entry is low enough for America’s system to safely and effectively manage border operations.”  The president’s order would come under the Immigration and Nationality Act sections 212(f) and 215(a) suspending entry of noncitizens who cross the southern border into the United States unlawfully. Humanitarian exceptions will be made, including for unaccompanied children and victims of trafficking.

Biden’s executive order comes a day after U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials reported rising injuries and fatalities among migrants due to heat and dehydration as summer approaches and temperatures recently topped 100 degrees in the El Paso, Texas, sector. Border Patrol agents responded to several emergencies involving migrants suffering from “severe heat related illnesses,” which claimed four lives over the past weekend.

Ellen Ann Holtman – OBIT

Ellen Ann Holtman, 85, of Crookston, MN, passed away late Saturday evening, June 1, 2024, in RiverView Health, Crookston, with loving family at her side.

Ellen was born in Ada, MN on January 23, 1939, the sixth of seven children of the union of William and Eleanor (Zenner) Lundon. While growing up in Ada, Ellen was baptized and confirmed in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, educated in Ada schools and graduated from Ada High with the Class of 1957. On June 1, 1961 Ellen married the love of her life, Ronald Holtman, in a ceremony held at St. Joseph’s.

The couple made their first home in Ada and over the next few years welcomed 3 sons: Bob, Jim, and Doug. In 1966 the family moved to Crookston, and a year later to Red Lake Falls, where daughter, Lori, was born. While in Red Lake Falls Ellen was employed at the Co-op Store and then with the grocery store in Peppermint Square. In 1979 Ellen, Ron, and the kids returned to Crookston, where until her retirement in 2001, Ellen was employed by Tri-Valley as a receptionist while also providing administrative support. She was always grateful for the many Tri-Valley friendships formed during those years. Sadly, their son, Jim, passed away on October 31, 1996.

Ellen was devoted to her beloved husband, Ron, and together they were very proud of their 4 children and their many accomplishments.  Her love for family and God was unwavering. She was fiercely protective of her kids and no matter how old they were she always said they were never too old to stop worrying about, often calling to be sure they got home ok. It wasn’t your birthday until she called to sing “Happy Birthday to You”, always changing the last line to “May Jesus bless you!”  Ellen was a very good cook, spending many Saturday mornings in the kitchen.  Some of the family favorites being her homemade caramel rolls, chocolate chip cookies and Christmas dinner meatballs. She was a great wife and the best Mom ever.

Ellen loved doing crafts and crocheting afghans, doilies and washcloths.  She made each grandchild a special afghan for their confirmation. She also taught herself to paint and developed many techniques that made her finished works a treasure to hang on anybody’s wall.  She had a passion for reading and enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins, often adding her own commentary.   She thoroughly enjoyed Sunday afternoons spent visiting and laughing while playing 10,000, Turkey Foot or the card game Golf with Ron, Mark and Joan.

Ellen will be deeply missed but we will carry her in our hearts forever.   Now instead of worrying about her family, and calling to check on them, she will be guiding us all along our way.

Ellen leaves to mourn her passing, Ron, with whom she shared exactly 63 years of marriage since her death took place on their anniversary. She also said goodbye to their 3 children: Bob and Tina Holtman of Fertile, MN, and Doug and Dianne Holtman and Lori and Dan Nystad, all of Crookston; 6 grandchildren: Brad (Ashley) Holtman of Ada, MN, and Brooke (Kolton) Walker, Kate (Ryan) Overgaard, Cody (Melissa) Holtman, Sarah (Derek) Ringdahl, and Jessica Nystad, all of Crookston; and 14 great-grandchildren. She also leaves siblings: Phyllis Drake of Fargo, ND, Joan (Mark) Chisholm of Gary, MN, sister-in-law Betty Lundon of Dilworth, MN and from Ron’s family, Cheryl Lampton of Twin Valley, MN; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

In addition to her son, Jim, Ellen is preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Eleanor Lundon; siblings and siblings-in-law: Richard Lundon, Norinne and Richard Rockstad, Clayton Drake, William and Geri Lundon, and Dorothy and Henry Aaby; and from Ron’s family, parents-in-law, Max and Goldie Holtman; and brother-in-law, Wayne Holtman.

Blessed be the memory of Ellen Ann (Lundon) Holtman.

Ellen’s life will be celebrated with a Memorial Service at 11:00 A.M., Friday, June 7, 2024, at Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home, Crookston, with The Rev. Greg Isaacson, officiating. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service and burial will follow at 1:00 P.M. in the Oakdale Cemetery. Both services will be livestreamed by going to Ellen’s obituary page at www.stenshoelhouske.com and clicking on the prompt to view. Messages of condolence to the family may be offered on the website as well.
