Nikki Glaser to host the 2025 Golden Globe Awards

Nikki Glaser arrives for ÔTed LassoÕ Season 3 premiere on March 07^ 2023 in Westwood^ CA

Comedian Nikki Glaser is set to host the 82nd annual Golden Globe Awards in 2025, with CBS sharing in a social media post: “The Globes have gone Glaser 🎤 @NikkiGlaser is set to host the 2025 #GoldenGlobes on Sunday, January 5! LIVE on @CBS and streaming on @paramountplus ✨

Glaser said she is “absolutely thrilled,” about her hosting gig, sharing in a statement: ““I am absolutely thrilled to be hosting the Golden Globes. It’s one of my favorite nights of television and now I get a front row seat (actually, I think I have to host from the stage). The Golden Globes is not only a huge night for TV and film, but also for comedy. It’s one of the few times that show business not only allows, but encourages itself to be lovingly mocked (at least I hope so). (God I hope so). It’s an exciting, yet challenging gig because it’s live, unpredictable, and in front of Hollywood’s biggest stars (who also might be getting wasted while seated next to their recent exes) … Some of my favorite jokes of all time have come from past Golden Globes opening monologues when Tina, Amy, or Ricky have said exactly what we all didn’t know we desperately needed to hear. I just hope to continue in that time honored tradition (that might also get me canceled). This is truly a dream job. Plus, I no longer have to feel guilty for every TV show and movie I’ve binged over the past year. It was all worth it. (‘Below Deck: Sailing Yacht’ Season Four will be nominated, right?).”

Helen Hoehne, president of the Golden Globes, said in a statement: “Nikki Glaser is a comedic powerhouse whose daring and unfiltered humor is the perfect match for the Golden Globes. She is sure to bring a unique energy and spontaneity to the show that will keep the audience entertained all night.” Jay Penske, Chairman and CEO of Dick Clark Productions and Penske Media, added: “Nikki Glaser brings a fresh and unmatched candor to her comedy and to the Golden Globes. Her unapologetic style made her an obvious and compelling choice as host for this year’s event. We’re hopeful this could be the first of many Golden Globes that Nikki will surprise and delight our CBS audience, as well as our audiences around the globe.”

Glaser was previously nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Variety Special, HBO’s Nikki Glaser: Someday You’ll Die, and also hosts The Nikki Glaser Podcast as well as Lovers and Liars (a spinoff of the reality dating series “FBoy Island.”).

The 82nd Golden Globe Award ceremony will air Jan. 5, 2025 at 8-11 p.m. ET/PT on CBS and streaming on Paramount+ in the U.S.

Red River Valley Winter Shows Property makes Planning Commissions Agenda

city-of-crookston-logo-1232623

The Crookston Planning Commission Meeting took place Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. at City Hall. The first item on the Agenda was the approval of the Minutes from the August 20 Meeting.

The second Agenda item for the night was a Conditional Use Permit Request for RV & Vehicle Storage at 0 College Ave in Crookston.  The Planning Commission was asked to review and comment on the address and whether to allow the storage of RVs or vehicles on the open lots. Building Official Greg Hefta explains what happened during the discussion on this item. “The Commission decided to table this item until the owners are present to get some answers regarding what the intention is beyond the RV parking and how much traffic it would create additionally in this neighborhood, “said Hefta. “Beyond that, there were also some questions about whether there was a future use that may be more appropriate.”

Hefta did emphasize, though, that the main reason for tabling was that the owners needed to be present to answer the commission’s questions about how they were going to use that Conditional Use Permit.

Agenda items 3 and 4 were related to the Red River Valley Winter Shows property at 1811 University Ave in Crookston, MN.

Item 3 was for a Rezoning Request for 11.94 Acres from R-C to C-3 Commercial. “They want to change from an R-C, which was a C-2 Commercial District, to a C-3, which is a Commercial Shopping District, more for stores, offices, professionals, a long list of items that could be probably more readily accessible and more useful for the potential client that the EDA has been looking at and working with, “said Hefta. “It seems to fit their usage far better than C-2.”

The final item was Land Determination for the Red River Valley Winter Show Parcels. “It’s just asking the Planning Commission whether it’s in the city’s interest to pursue the land purchase and or usage of that land for further economic development,” explained Hefta.

Both items pertaining to the Red River Valley Winter Shows were approved.

Polk County Board of Commissioners approves selling retired squad vehicles

polkcountylogo2014-1819770

The Polk County Board of Commissioners met on Tuesday, September 17, at the Polk County Government Center. After reviewing and approving the agenda, the Board moved to approve all Consent Items.

The first item on the Regular Agenda was the monthly Sheriff Reports.  Sheriff James Tadman went through the report and highlighted items he thought stood out. “The transport miles that we had for the month of August, we had a total of 4,804 miles, and that’s down just about 1,800 under July,” said Tadman.  He also mentioned that they usually have anywhere between 3,000-4,000 miles with in-state prison transport, and that is down to 1,404 miles.

In the month of August there were 691 Calls for Service at the Polk County Sheriff’s Department.  Sheriff Tadman says the calls that really resonate with him are the motor vehicle accidents. “The thing that really stands out is motor vehicle accidents, we had 22 and two being injury accidents,” said Tadman. “We had a lot of reports of reckless or careless driving, so when the reports come in that way, they are documented that, but they may be something different, but if people are swerving all over the road or driving fast, they consider it reckless in any manner, and it’s logged in that way.”

Sheriff Tadman also brought to the Board a list of retired squad vehicles to sell. “As we are ordering new and getting rid of the older ones with too high of milages, we end up taking them off and out of the fleet budget, and then we turn around and we sell them,” said Tadman. “Right now, we are leasing our vehicles through Enterprise, so when we sell our vehicles, it costs $400, they pick it up, they take care of it, they do the sales, all the advertisement, everything else like that, and try and get us the best that we can do to put back in the budget for our fleet so we’ve got some new vehicles coming in.”  The list consisted of 8 vehicles, and the Board of Commissioners approved the sale of the vehicles.

Sam Melbye, Director of Property Records, appeared before the Commissioners to certify that he and his office were compliant with the standards set by the Recorder Compliance Certification, returning documents within 10 days. Melbye also brought an Action Item for approval. This was one of only two items requiring action at today’s meeting: Resolution 2024-67, for the Re-Appointment of Mark Landsverk as county Assessor of Polk County. The Resolution was approved, and Landsverk will serve another four-year term.

The Commissioners heard from Lisa Loegering, Extension Office NW Regional Director, on a Memorandum of Agreement Discussion.  Loegering presented an update on the Polk County – U of M Extension MOA. Loegering explained that they wish to keep the agreement at the current level.

Richard Sanders, County Engineer, brought four County Ditch Maintenance Requests before the Board today. “Today, I came to the County Board Meeting with four ditch petitions, County Ditch 40, County Ditch 123, County Ditch 126, and County Ditch 110,” said Sanders. “The landowners along those ditches have requested those ditches to be cleaned, so the County Board gave us approval to go out and survey them, and if they do need to be cleaned, clean them as necessary.”

Last, on the regular section of today’s Board of Commissioners meeting, was John Sorenson from the West Polk County Soil and Water Conservation District.  This item was an informational item where he spoke on the Implementation of Delegated State Programs.  Sorenson also voiced some frustration with West Polk County. “Issues and concerns that we have had with West Polk and funding for grants,” said Sorenson. “This has been an ongoing issue I guess that we have talked about for a couple months, its’ been resolved, it’s just getting it in front of them so nobody is blindsided.”

At this point, the County Board of Commissioners shifted to starting their budget discussions, which will continue on Wednesday as well and during future meetings.

The next County Board of Commissioners meeting will be on October 1 at 8:00 a.m.

Suspected gunman in second Trump assassination attempt is charged with firearm offenses

The entrance sign to President Donald Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach^ Florida USA on Feb 22^ 2019

The FBI is investigating what they call an apparant, second “attempted assassination” of former President Donald Trump at his golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida on Sunday.

On Monday, the suspect, identified as Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, was charged with two firearm offenses (possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial numbe) in federal court. If convicted on the two firearms charges, he could face a maximum sentence of 20 years. Court records show more than 100 criminal counts have been filed against Routh in North Carolina.

The criminal complaint against Routh revealed Monday that his cellphone was in the same vicinity near the Trump golf course for nearly 12 hours:  “Agents requested T-Mobile, on an emergency basis, to provide law enforcement with information pertaining to ROUTH’s mobile phone usage. Those records indicated that Routh’s mobile phone was located in the vicinity of the area along the tree line described above from approximately 1:59 AM until approximately 1:31 PM, on September 15, 2024.”

According to Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw, Routh was armed with an AK-47-style rifle and was allegedly 300-500 yards away from Trump at Trump International Golf Course when members of the Secret Service detail spotted him and opened fire in the direction of the rifle. Witness say they saw a man, later identified as Routh, fleeing the area of the tree line, entering a Nissan sport utility vehicle and leaving at a high rate of speed. In the area of the tree line where Routh fled, agents found a digital camera, two bags, a loaded SKS-style 7.62×39 caliber rifle with a scope, and a black plastic bag containing food. The serial number on the rifle “was obliterated and unreadable to the naked eye.”

Routh was pulled over and detained about 50 miles away after a law enforcement alert was issued for the black Nissan with the license plate number. The Martin County Sheriff’s Office shared body cam video Monday of the moment deputies arrested suspect Routh on Sunday afternoon, which shows multiple officers wearing bulletproof vests as one officer ordered the suspect to step backward with his arms raised. He was detained without incident.

Trump took to X on Monday afternoon to thank the Secret Service and local law enforcement, commending them for doing an “outstanding” job handling the potential attempt on his life. He thanked Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw by name: “I would like to thank everyone for your concern and well wishes – It was certainly an interesting day!  Most importantly, I want to thank the U.S. Secret Service, Sheriff Ric Bradshaw and his Office of brave and dedicated Patriots, and, all of Law Enforcement, for the incredible job done today at Trump International in keeping me, as the 45th President of the United States, and the Republican Nominee in the upcoming Presidential Election, SAFE. THE JOB DONE WAS ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING. I AM VERY PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN!”
