Do not let joint pain slow you down or keep you from the activities you love. RiverView Health has solutions for your pain, from physical therapy to joint replacement.

Attend RiverView’s free Dec. 3 Joint Pain Seminar to learn more about joint pain, conservative approaches to treatment, and when it may be time to consider a joint replacement.

The following providers will share information on their specialties:

 Tony Kuchan, PT, DPT: A physical therapist in Crookston, he focuses on addressing pain and restoring movement for his patients through tailored physical therapy.

 Vinita Parikh, MD: An interventional pain management specialist with practices in Crookston and East Grand Forks, Dr. Parikh assists individuals suffering from pain and offers regenerative medicine options. She is committed to helping patients regain their quality of life, stating, “I am honored to assist patients in reducing their pain so they can enjoy their time with their families and continue doing activities that are important to them.”

 Hannah Reski, PA-C: An orthopedic physician assistant, Reski works with RiverView surgeons in Crookston, East Grand Forks, and Thief River Falls, including in the operating room. Earlier this year, he launched a Mako Robotic-Arm Joint Replacement Program for adults with mid-to-late-stage knee or hip osteoarthritis. He will share the benefits of this minimally invasive surgical approach. Regardless of which services best suit patients’ needs, Dr. Smith emphasizes the importance of living a life with less pain. “Patients often say, I wish I would have done this sooner. Our goal is to reduce pain for our patients and provide a good range of motion so they can get back to doing what they used to do. Ultimately, this will allow them to achieve a healthier, more active lifestyle.”

The seminar will start at 6 PM and include a complimentary light meal in the Conference Rooms at RiverView Health, 323 South Minnesota Street. Pre-registration is required; you can register by calling 281-9440 or online at https://rvhealth.org/jointpain.

ICC issues arrest warrants for Israel PM Netanyahu, former defense minister Gallant and Hamas leader

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. WASHINGTON DC^ USA - JULY 9^ 1996

The International Criminal Court (‘ICC’) issued arrest warrants Thursday for Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, along with Hamas military chief Mohammed Deif, over alleged crimes against humanity and war crimes.

The ICC said in a statement on Thursday that they’ve accused Netanyahu and Gallant of a string of human rights abuses in the Gaza Strip, with judges determining that there were “reasonable grounds to believe that” both Netanyahu and Gallant “intentionally and knowingly deprived the civilian population in Gaza of objects indispensable to their survival, including food, water, and medicine and medical supplies, as well as fuel and electricity, from at least 8 October 2023 to 20 May 2024. This finding is based on the role of Mr Netanyahu and Mr Gallant in impeding humanitarian aid in violation of international humanitarian law and their failure to facilitate relief by all means at its disposal”

Netanyahu’s office branded the decision “antisemitic,” ad rejected the charges as “absurd and false” and condemning the ICC as a “biased and discriminatory political body.” Both Israel and the United States do not recognize the jurisdiction of the ICC, which has no police to enforce its warrants.

The court issued a separate arrest warrant for Deif, an alleged architect of the Oct. 7 terror attack, whom Israel said it killed earlier this year. Deif was accused of crimes against humanity and war crimes, including for his role in the Oct. 7 attack in which Israeli officials said some 1,200 people were killed and around 250 taken hostage. While Hamas welcomed the warrants as an “important step towards justice”, senior political official Basem Naim said “the court’s decision remains limited and symbolic if it is not supported by all means by all countries around the world to implement it.”

A spokesperson for the National Security Council said the U.S. “fundamentally rejects the Court’s decision to issue arrest warrants for senior Israeli officials.. we are deeply concerned by the prosecutor’s rush to seek arrest warrants and the troubling process errors that led to this decision.”

Matt Gaetz withdraws his name from consideration of Attorney General position amid backlash

Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) speaks at CPAC. NATIONAL HARBOR^ MD^ USA- February 24^ 2024

Matt Gaetz, 42, has withdrawn from his attorney general nomination amid his ongoing sex-for-hire scandal and subsequent House Ethics Committee investigation.

The former Republican member of Congress from Florida announced Thursday on social media that he is withdrawing his nomination after “unfairly becoming a distraction” to the transition of power to the President-elect Donald Trump and Vice President-elect J.D. Vance.

Gaetz wrote on X: “I had excellent meetings with Senators yesterday. I appreciate their thoughtful feedback — and the incredible support of so many. While the momentum was strong, it is clear that my confirmation was unfairly becoming a distraction to the critical work of the Trump/Vance Transition. There is no time to waste on a needlessly protracted Washington scuffle, thus I’ll be withdrawing my name from consideration to serve as Attorney General. Trump’s DOJ must be in place and ready on Day 1 ..I remain fully committed to see that Donald J. Trump is the most successful President in history. I will forever be honored that President Trump nominated me to lead the Department of Justice and I’m certain he will Save America.”

Gaetz had drawn backlash from several Republican lawmakers due to controversy over his connection to a federal sex trafficking investigation being investigated by the Justice Department. He remains under investigation by the Republican-controlled House Ethics Committee over similar allegations.

CHS Advanced Woods students donate projects to United Way Holiday auction

img_6380-768x1024621714-1

For the fourth year in a row, Mr. Oliver’s Advanced Woods Class at Crookston High School has some students working on projects to donate to the United Way for their Holiday Auction, which will be held December 1 through December 7. Brandon Colborn and Tim Brule, both seniors at Crookston High School, used their talents to fashion a couple of beautiful wood pieces for the auction.

“We both decided to take on this project to give back to our community,” said Colborn. Brule said, “We decided to make cutting boards because they are pretty popular, and we thought it would be a good project to work on.”

While Brule’s project is a beautiful black walnut cutting board, Colborn explained that his project is a solid maple charcuterie board. “Mr. Oliver listed the pros of what it means to do a project for our community and said that this project could stay on the internet for a while and help us get jobs in the future.” Colborn also wanted to mention another teacher who helped him with his charcuterie board. “I laser engraved my project, and Ms. Boll helped me do that.”

Colborn and Brule’s teacher, Mr. Oliver, takes great pride in getting his students involved in community events like the United Way Holiday Auction. “This is the fourth year in a row we have made a charcuterie board, or cutting board or another type of project for the Holiday Auction for the United Way,” says Oliver. “This type of project has been pretty popular. The United Way, one of the board members usually reaches out every year, so we try to make something for them.”
