CHS welding students get critiqued by Certified Welder Tim Hegg of ICS

On Wednesday, March 12th, Travis Oliver’s (2)-Beginning Welding/Metals classes and his Advanced Welding/Metals class had the opportunity to have their welds graded/looked at by a Certified Welder. Tim Hegg of Industrial Contract Services (ICS) of Grand Forks took some time out of his schedule to come in and visit with just about every student about their welds. Currently, the classes are working on SMAW (Stick) in class. Mr. Oliver asked Hegg to critique the students’ welds and offer any advice that he could. Students are running 7018 Rod and 6013 Rod. They were assigned to complete a 7018/6013 pad, Butt joint, and Lap joint. Mr. Oliver really appreciates that industry partners are helping him design the curriculum for his classes and keeping him on his toes as an instructor. He believes this prepares his students for the real world with real-world circumstances. Mr. Oliver and his students want to thank Tim Hegg from ICS for coming in and helping with this. If anyone would like more information about Tim Hegg’s visit or what Mr. Oliver’s students are working on, feel free to contact Oliver at travisoliver@isd593.org or call 218 281 2144.
