Red Lake Falls cruises to a big victory over Crookston Softball

The Red Lake Falls Eagle Softball team cruised to a 17-3 victory over the Crookston Pirate Softball team in a game played at KROX Radio Stadium in Crookston.

FIRST INNING-
Red Lake Falls got things going right away with a Layna Shindler double. Shandi Nelson reached on an error before Kylie Klipping grounded out and a run scored for a 1-0 lead. Ava Seeger walked before Miley Cota grounded out and another run scored for a 2-0 lead.
Crookston’s Emily Bowman walked. The next batter struck out before a Brea Lessard single. After an out, Madi Bruggeman walked but the next batter was retired.

SECOND INNING-
Red Lake Falls’ Amelia Warne singled, and Ella Breiland walked. Shingler singled to score a run for a 3-0 lead. The next two batters were retired.
Crookston was retired in 1-2-3 fashion in the bottom of the inning.

THIRD INNING –
Red Lake Falls’ Miley Cota singled with one out before Kayla Schafer hit a two-run homerun for a 5-0 lead. After an out, Warne reached on
an error before Breiland doubled to scored two more runs for a 7-0 lead.
Crookston started the bottom of the inning with a Bowman triple, Lessard followed with a single to get within a 7-1 deficit. The next two batters were retired.

FOURTH INNING-
Klipping started the inning with a walk, Segger singled and a run scored on a ground out. Another run scored on a fly out for a 9-1 lead. With two outs. Kali Knutson, a freshman, walked to keep the inning alive, and Ella Breiland would come up and single in another run, the third of the inning for the Eagles, making it 10-1 at the end of the frame.
Crookston would be retired in ordef in the bottom of the 4th, on two strikeouts and a popout.

FIFTH INNING
In the 5th, Red Lake Falls got Klipping and Seeger on base on back-to-back errors, and after Miley Cota singled, the bases would be loaded. Kayla Schafer would popout, but a throwing error would score a run to make it 11-1. Hoefer would strikeout to end the inning.
Crookston would score their final runs of the game in the bottom of the 5th. Ally Wagner led off with a triple, and with one away, Rilynn Aubol would groundout, scoring the run to cut the lead to 11-2. Then, after Brea Lessard got yet another hit, Kambelle Freije would drive her in with an RBI single, cutting the lead to 11-3 at the end of 5 innings.

SIXTH INNING
As the 6th inning got started, a walk and yet another error put runners on first and second with no one out, leading to an RBI single by Layna Schindler, making it 12-3 Eagles. However, Ally Wagner would lock in in the circle from there, getting a groundout and two popouts to end the inning with no further damage.
In the home half of the 6th, the Pirates would get a one-out single from Leia Parkin, and after a passed ball and groundout, Parkin would be perched over at third. However, she would then be picked off to end the inning.

SEVENTH INNING
In the 7th, the Red Lake Falls offense would not back down. After the first two batters were retired, an error and a single put two on. Breiland and Schindler would each deliver with RBI singles to make it 14-3, and then after a walk, Kylie Klipping would clear the bases, driving in 3 with a double to make it 17-3 Eagles, which would stick at the end of the inning.
Crookston would get two 2-out singles, one from Aubol and one from Lessard, but Freije would ground out to end the game, giving the Eagles a 17-3 win.

Crookston drops to 4-8 on the season, and Red Lake Falls improves to 6-4 on the season.
