Community Education Advisory Board continues to work towards enhancing the quality of life for Crookston residents

The Crookston Community Education Advisory Board met on Tuesday, May 13, in the School District Office Board Room.  Tuesday’s meeting marked the completion of the Director of Community Education, Matt Torgerson’s first year. “I just took this role this year as the Community Ed Director. One of the rules is you have to have an advisory board,” says Torgerson. “We are supposed to meet four times throughout the year.”

What kinds of things is the Advisory Board working on? “Really, what the conversations are is what’s going on in the community, how can we help each other out, how can we collaborate between the different entities, and really try to bring as much programming to Crookston as possible,” says Torgerson. “This doesn’t mean it’s necessarily a school district thing; the intention behind it is really to be a community thing.”

The board meets four times yearly to discuss programming opportunities for residents of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds. The board consists of members already working on different community programs, such as LEO Club, ECFE, UMC, the Golden Link, and more. Torgerson says that each of these entities brings information and ideas to the table. “These meetings are a good time to touch base with our local library, with our Golden Link Center, with our faith community, and just trying to get everybody working towards some common goals, and that’s programming for Crookston, and how do we improve Crookston through this educational standpoint.”

Stayed tuned for more from the Community Education Advisory Board. They will have their next meeting in October as they continue collaborating to enhance the quality of life through shared experiences and enrichment opportunities.
