The Crookston Airport Commission approved its first Non-Commercial Hangar Lot Lease Thursday

The Crookston Airport Commission met on Thursday, May 15, at noon in the City Hall Conference Room. The agenda consisted of one item: the approval of a Non-Commercial Hangar Lot Lease. The commission has been working on this for a few months now, as a private investor showed interest in building a hangar at the Crookston Airport.

Last week, the City Council approved the lease paperwork template, as this will be the first privately built hangar at the Crookston Airport. It was a quick turnaround to today’s meeting to get the lease for Chris Ranten, who happens to be an airport commissioner, approved and signed off on.

What did today’s Airport Commission meeting accomplish?  “We approved a land lot lease for a private individual who wants to build a hangar,” says Crookston Airport Manager Lowell Miller. “He will have a heated hangar so he can store stuff in there, heat it, and put their own airplanes in there. Multiple airplanes, it’s a good-sized hangar. ”What kind of benefits come from approving a land lot lease like this one? “They rent two other hangars, so this will free up two hangars for additional renters.”

The Crookston Airport is growing and serves multiple states. Not only will allowing private hangars to be built free up space for other renters, but the city will generate some funds through the land lot lease and taxes. The Airport Commission unanimously approved the Non-Commercial Hangar Lot Lease with Chris Ranten.
