Tornado touches down northeast of Crookston

A tornado touched down northeast of Crookston on Thursday, May 15. The Crookston Fire Department turned on the sirens after the confirmed touchdown on the east/northeast of Crookston in a field. Submitted video below shows the touchdown.

As a result of the storm that went through the Red Lake Electric Co-op service territory, they have multiple outages. Most are North and West of Thief River Falls, with others South of Thief River Falls, northwest of Red Lake Falls, and southeast of Crookston. The wind and trees caused havoc with the lines and poles. In a Facebook post, they said, “We are aware of downed power lines and broken poles. All linemen are dispatched and working in the field, but it will take some time before everyone is restored to full power.
