The school year is coming to a close in Crookston, and Highland Elementary is getting ready to close out the year with a Family Fun Night Event on Tuesday, May 20, starting at 5:00 p.m.
“This is something we started a couple of years ago. It’s a lot of fun for the parents and children. We have a lot of fun activities,” says Highland Principal Chris Trostad. “Family night is just kind of a thank you and a celebration of the end of the year for all the kids, and it’s fun to meet some parents that maybe we haven’t seen before.”
The celebration starts at 5:00 p.m. and runs till 6:30 p.m. All students, Pre-K through 5th Graders, and their families are invited. “It’s a free meal, starts at 5:00 p.m. and goes till 6:30 p.m.,” says Trostad. “Some different activities that the teachers have signed up to volunteer to do are face painting, there will be corn hole games, and kids can do chalk on the sidewalks. It will be at Highland school, and we have the new playground, so we have the two playgrounds for kids to play on when they are done eating.”
That’s not all. There are more activities for families to take part in. “We’ve got a bubble station, LEO Club is going to have someone in the Pirate Mascot, and our Title Staff is going to provide s’more packages,” says Trostad. “The fire department brings over the s’more tables so the kids have fun making s’mores after they have eaten supper, and Jana is putting together a slide show with pictures from the year of the kids at school.”
Principal Trostad said there will also be a photo booth opportunity and photographers taking pictures of families enjoying their evening. If you have children from Pre-K to grade five, come on out Tuesday night and enjoy the Highland Elementary Family Fun Night. The fun evening kicks off at 5:00 p.m. There will be free hot dogs, chips, and water. Tri-Valley will be offering free bus rides to and from the event. To set up a ride, call 218-281-0700. If you have any questions about the event, you can call Highland School at 218-281-5600.
