Joseph Shostell to fill vacant At-Large City Council seat

There was a Ways and Means Committee Meeting Monday night following the City Council meeting. The agenda for Ways & Means brought in eight candidates, all wishing to fill the vacant At-Large City Council seat left vacant after the resignation of Tim Menard.

In a very organized fashion, each candidate had time to stand before the council and answer interview questions. The candidates were Rennae Ramsey, Brandon Lee, Gina Corneillie, Josheph Shostell, James Hobbs, Bishop Jenson, Wendy Ault, and Matt Rosu.

Once all candidates had time before the council, the council members each submitted their top candidate for the At-Large position. The decision was difficult after such an excellent turnout for the open spot. “It was a close vote; we did have to run the numbers twice because we had a three-way tie to begin with,” says City Administrator Jeff Shoobridge. “However, the vote getter with the three votes versus two and two was Joseph Shostell. It is anticipated that the Council will be ratifying that at the next Special Meeting.”

Shostell had to take leave after his interview with the council, but we did get to ask him a few questions before he left.

How long have you lived in Crookston?

“11 years. It seems like yesterday, but it’s been 11 years.”

Why did you apply for the At-Large spot on the City Council?

“I have leadership experience and a passion for leadership. I love this community, I am a steward of this community, and I really want to see it go in the right direction.”

Is there anything else you would like the public to know?

“Crookston is a great place to be, and I hope that it continues to flourish and I hope that it grows.”
