The Weeknd has released the cinematic music video for the song “Drive,” directed by acclaimed filmmaker Trey Edward Shults. This video is part of his new album Hurry Up Tomorrow from the upcoming feature film of the same name, set to debut on May 16th.
The Weeknd (Abel Tesfaye) and Ortega both star in Hurry Up Tomorrow, which also features actor Barry Keoghan, and is described as a “musically driven psychological thriller.” The film features original music by The Weeknd and Daniel Lopatin, and is produced by Abel Tesfaye’s Manic Phase, alongside Reza Fahim, Kevin Turen, and Harrison Kreiss.
The Weeknd brings his trilogy of studio albums to a close with Hurry Up Tomorrow, following his previous projects After Hours (2020) and Dawn FM (2022). He will also embark on a massive North American stadium tour, joined by Atlanta rapper Playboi Carti and special guest Mike Dean. The Weeknd: After Hours Til Dawn 2025 Tour will feature 43 dates, and includes songs from Hurry Up Tomorrow, After Hours, Dawn FM, and his entire catalog. The Weeknd is partnering with Global Citizen and for every ticket sold, one dollar will be donated to help children in vulnerable communities worldwide. Fans can also earn free tickets by taking action to fight extreme poverty through Global Citizen’s initiatives.
The Crookston City Council will meet on Monday, May 5, at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall in the Council Chambers.During Presentations and Public Information Announcements Mayor Stainbrook will make a proclamation declaring May 2025 Mental Health Awareness Month.
On the Consent Agenda for Monday, the council will be asked to approve the City Council Minutes from April 21, 2025, and to approve City of Crookston Bills and Disbursements of $218,987.44. The consent agenda will approve the license renewals for 2025 Cement Masons Craig Plante Construction and JD Concrete LLC, accept a donation for the Crookston Sports Center in the amount of $15,354.46 for the Crookston Parks and Recreation Sports Center for the flooring for the walking path from Crookston Area Community Fund, a donation from Bruce Erdann in the amount of $20 for Kids First Program in Memory of Issac Perala, and a donation from Fin and Fit in the amount of $10,000 for the Crookston Community Pool. The last two items on the consent agenda are a resolution calling for a public hearing on “Regulations of Cannabis Businesses” in the City of Crookston and a resolution declaring the Crookston Watch as the official paper for the City of Crookston.
On the regular Agenda for Monday night there are two items. The first is a resolution regarding the approval of the non-commercial hangar lot lease template for Crookston Municipal Airport. This is for the updated lease document that includes changes to the Termination of Lease section of the lease agreement.The final item for the meeting is a resolution to declare a vacancy for the City Council Member Tim Menard who held one of two at-large positions. Menard resigned his position recently due to a health issue and to focus on his continued recovery.
The Red Lake Falls Eagle Softball team cruised to a 17-3 victory over the Crookston Pirate Softball team in a game played at KROX Radio Stadium in Crookston.
FIRST INNING- Red Lake Falls got things going right away with a Layna Shindler double. Shandi Nelson reached on an error before Kylie Klipping grounded out and a run scored for a 1-0 lead. Ava Seeger walked before Miley Cota grounded out and another run scored for a 2-0 lead. Crookston’s Emily Bowman walked. The next batter struck out before a Brea Lessard single. After an out, Madi Bruggeman walked but the next batter was retired.
SECOND INNING- Red Lake Falls’ Amelia Warne singled, and Ella Breiland walked. Shingler singled to score a run for a 3-0 lead. The next two batters were retired. Crookston was retired in 1-2-3 fashion in the bottom of the inning.
THIRD INNING – Red Lake Falls’ Miley Cota singled with one out before Kayla Schafer hit a two-run homerun for a 5-0 lead. After an out, Warne reached on an error before Breiland doubled to scored two more runs for a 7-0 lead. Crookston started the bottom of the inning with a Bowman triple, Lessard followed with a single to get within a 7-1 deficit. The next two batters were retired.
FOURTH INNING- Klipping started the inning with a walk, Segger singled and a run scored on a ground out. Another run scored on a fly out for a 9-1 lead. With two outs. Kali Knutson, a freshman, walked to keep the inning alive, and Ella Breiland would come up and single in another run, the third of the inning for the Eagles, making it 10-1 at the end of the frame. Crookston would be retired in ordef in the bottom of the 4th, on two strikeouts and a popout.
FIFTH INNING In the 5th, Red Lake Falls got Klipping and Seeger on base on back-to-back errors, and after Miley Cota singled, the bases would be loaded. Kayla Schafer would popout, but a throwing error would score a run to make it 11-1. Hoefer would strikeout to end the inning. Crookston would score their final runs of the game in the bottom of the 5th. Ally Wagner led off with a triple, and with one away, Rilynn Aubol would groundout, scoring the run to cut the lead to 11-2. Then, after Brea Lessard got yet another hit, Kambelle Freije would drive her in with an RBI single, cutting the lead to 11-3 at the end of 5 innings.
SIXTH INNING As the 6th inning got started, a walk and yet another error put runners on first and second with no one out, leading to an RBI single by Layna Schindler, making it 12-3 Eagles. However, Ally Wagner would lock in in the circle from there, getting a groundout and two popouts to end the inning with no further damage. In the home half of the 6th, the Pirates would get a one-out single from Leia Parkin, and after a passed ball and groundout, Parkin would be perched over at third. However, she would then be picked off to end the inning.
SEVENTH INNING In the 7th, the Red Lake Falls offense would not back down. After the first two batters were retired, an error and a single put two on. Breiland and Schindler would each deliver with RBI singles to make it 14-3, and then after a walk, Kylie Klipping would clear the bases, driving in 3 with a double to make it 17-3 Eagles, which would stick at the end of the inning. Crookston would get two 2-out singles, one from Aubol and one from Lessard, but Freije would ground out to end the game, giving the Eagles a 17-3 win.
Crookston drops to 4-8 on the season, and Red Lake Falls improves to 6-4 on the season.

The Red Lake County Rebels scored five runs in the first inning and exploded for 17 runs in the third on their way to a 22-6 victory over the Crookston Pirates in the Jim Karn Classic played at Jim Karn Field in Crookston.
FIRST INNING- Red Lake County started the game about as good as they could have hoped as Will Gieseke hit a line drive up the middle into centerfield for a leadoff single. Gunnar Halverson singled and Ben Gullingsrud walked. Gieseke scored on a passed ball for a 1-0 lead. Keggan Schmitz singled to right field and the Pirate fielder overran the ball and two runs scored as Schmitz advanced to third base on the play. Brock Seever walked and Brock Knott Knott singled to score two more runs for a 5-0 lead. Crookston’s Matt Contreras came in to pitch and Dawson Erickson reached on an error on a ground ball to third base, Colin Taggert reached on an error on the left fielder and bases were loaded with nobody out. Contreras finished the inning strong with a strikeout, an infield fly, and another strikeout to get out of the jam and Red Lake County led 5-0. Crookston’s Contreras led off the bottom of the inning with a double and he advanced to third on a ground out. Gavyn Hlucny grounded out to second base and Contreras scored to bring the Pirates within a 5-1 deficit.
SECOND INNING- Red Lake County’s first batter flew out before Schmitz was hit by a pitch. After a strikeout, Knott had a great at-bat while fouling several pitches off and drawing a walk. The next Rebel batter struck out and the half-inning was over. Crookston’s Carter Fee led off the bottom of the inning with a walk. After a strikeout, Isaiah Donarski was hit by a pitch. The next batter struck out before Nolan Cassavant was hit by a pitch to load the bases with two outs. The next batter flew out to centerfield and Red Lake County held on to their 5-1 lead.
THIRD INNING – Red Lake County blew the game open with a 17-runand 10-hit third inning!! It started when a pitch hit Tagert to start the inning. Denny Lanctot walked and Gieseke singled to score a run. Halverson walked and Gullingsrud walked to score a run. Schmitz singled to score a run and Seeger singled to score two runs. Knott reached on a fielder’s choice and Dawson Erickson singled to score a run. Taggert stepped up to the plate for the second time in the inning and had an rbi single. Lanctot walked before Gieseke singled in a run. A run scored on an error and Halverson reached on a fielder’s choice before Gullingsrud knocked in a run. Bases were loaded when Schmitz and Seeger were hit by pitches to score two more runs. Red Lake County brought in Owen Chervestad to pinch and he laced a line drive to the right-center field gap for a bases-clearing double. After a strikeout, Bo Nelson reached on an error, Cain Cardinal singled and Gieseke singled to score another run for a 22-1 lead. Crookston’s Parker Kelly started the bottom of the inning with a double and scored on a Hlucny double to get within a 22-2 deficit.
FOURTH INNING- Red Lake County was retired in 1-2-3 fashion in the top of the inning. Crookston’s first two batters struck out before Cassavant and Contreras walked. The next batter flew out and the inning was over.
FIFTH INNING- Red Lake County was retired in 1-2-3 fashion. Crookston needed to score at least 11 runs to keep the game going and had a great start to the bottom of the inning. Hlucny singled and Greyson Ecker doubled to score a run. Carter Fee reached on an error on the third baseman and another run scored. Lucas Perala followed with a double to score another run. Aiden Delage recorded his first varsity basehit with an rbi single to bring Crookston within a 22-6 deficit. The next two batters were retired and the Rebels turned a double play on the last out to win the game 22-6.
Crookston drops to 2-5 on the year and will travel to Warroad on Tuesday to play a doubleheader. KROX will have the games on the radio. Red Lake County improves to 11-1 on the year and will host Roseau on Monday.

Gladys Ann (Jurchen) Wagner, 90, passed away on Tuesday, April 30th, 2025, in Crookston, MN with her loving family at her side.
Gladys was born in Crookston, MN on June 17th, 1934, to William and Alicia (Hoppe) Jurchen. She grew up in the rural Crookston area. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and graduated from Crookston High School. Gladys and sisters, Laurain and Irene, formed the Jurchen Sisters trio, singing in church and community events throughout Minnesota. Gladys was united in marriage to Eugene Willard Wagner on August 21, 1955, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Crookston. Together they farmed and raised their eight children. In addition to her own children, Gladys opened her home and cared for many foster children. Gladys was a devoted member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Fisher, where she faithfully served her Savior. She taught generations of children in Sunday School and was the youth choir director. She was an active member of Lutheran Women’s Missionary League at the local, zone, and district level.
Gladys is survived and lovingly remembered by her children and their families: Daniel and Ellen Wagner of Sartell, MN; Barbara and Arnold Andring of Crookston, MN; Kenneth and Mary Wagner of Fisher, MN; David and Kim Wagner of Bellingham, WA; Heidi and Joe Gubanyi of Denton, NE; James Wagner of Fisher, MN; Randall and Sarah Wagner of Fisher, MN; and Peter and Lori Wagner of Fisher; 27 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; sisters, Laurain Jurchen and Esther Jurchen; brothers, Erwin (Marcie) Jurchen and Arnold (Tamra) Jurchen; sister-in-law, Harriet Wagner; brother-in-law, Terry Schneider; nieces and nephews; extended family and many friends.
Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene; her parents, William and Alicia Jurchen; her grandson, Joshua Thiem; and her sisters and brother-in-law, Marlys and Dean Ard and Irene Schnieder.
Gladys’ family will celebrate her life with a funeral service on Wednesday May 7, 2025, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fisher beginning at 10:00 am. Interment will take place at Oakdale Cemetery at 12:30 pm following the service. Her family will receive friends at Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home on Tuesday May 6 from 5:00pm until 7:00 pm with a prayer service beginning at 7:00pm.
Adopt a Basket is now available from the Downtown Crookston Development Partnership. The DCDP will take over the project with the support of the Crookston Area Chamber to continue beautifying Crookston. The collaboration of community groups and the City of Crookston staff makes this project a success year after year. The Northland Community Band is pleased to announce its upcoming Spring Band Concert, scheduled for Tuesday, May 6, 2025. The concert will commence at 7 p.m. at the Northland Community & Technical College Theater in Thief River Falls, and we cordially invite the community to join us for an evening of diverse musical performances.
This concert will showcase a variety of pieces performed by talented local instrumentalists,ensuring an enjoyable experience for attendees of all ages, including families and children.Admission is free, although donations are welcome.
The evening’s program will feature a selection of musical compositions, including lively marches that embody the celebratory spirit of a Mardi Gras parade, such as “March Creole” by Stephen Bulla. The band will also honor the historical significance of the Battle of Normandy through the piece “Homage to Normandy” by David Long, and will take the audience on a musical journey to Japan with the folk piece “Sakura, Sakura.”
Additionally, the concert will present an engaging narrative titled “The Banquet…and the Poison Soup Plot” by Dana Wilson, which recounts an intriguing story from 1916 about a chef in Chicago with a rather mischievous plan that ultimately leads to a happy resolution.
To conclude the evening, attendees can look forward to a “Salute to Television,” featuring some of the most recognizable TV theme songs that many will remember fondly. The Crookston Pirate Baseball team will finally get a game in this week as they host the Jim Karn Classic and play the Hillsboro/Central Valley Burros at 6:30 p.m. You can hear the game on KROX Radio, with a short pre-game show after HCV plays Red Lake County at 4:00 p.m. Crookston is 1-4 on the year and hasn’t played since last Friday when they lost 10-1 to DGF. HCV is 7-4 on the year (before playing Red Lake County).
The Red Lake County Rebel Baseball team will take on the Hillsboro/Central Valley Burros in the Jim Karn Classic in Crookston at 4:00 p.m. Red Lake County is 8-1 on the year after a 10-0 victory over Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal.
