An empty leather scabbard was found in a box at the museum in Crookston. It’s about 40 inches long and 10 inches at the top. “S.F. Fullerton, Duluth, Minn.” is stamped on it. From the pattern of wear, it may have been used to carry a sword or a small rifle. How did it end up at the museum? Presumably, it belonged to Samuel F. Fullerton (born in 1858 in Ireland). He was a Minnesota state game warden. He married Emily Jones in 1896 in Polk, Wisconsin. The Fullertons lived in Ramsey, Minnesota. He died on January 26, 1936, at the age of 77, and was buried at Roseville. The museum, operated by the Polk County Historical Society, is open Tuesday through Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. Admission is free, and everyone is welcome.
