Crookston School District to hold Back to School Registration Day on August 14

The Crookston School District will hold its 26th annual Back to School Registration Day at the Crookston High School commons on Thursday, August 14, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

“We are shortening the day a little bit this year due to many of the forms being available online, so we haven’t had as much family participation the last few years, so we decided we will try this and see how it goes,” said Crookston School District Executive Assistant to the Superintendent Marilyn Wahouske.

Registration day is for pre-school through 12th-grade students. Information packets will be handed out to families, and transportation staff will be on hand to answer any questions. “Rick Niemela will be here, so if your child is intending on riding a bus either to or from school, you will want to visit with Rick and get that set up,” said Wahouske.

Even with free breakfast and lunch for Minnesota students, families are encouraged to fill out the free and reduced meal forms, and you will get a free activity ticket for each form filled out. “We will also have Emily Sheresky here for the Food Service program, so if your child is planning on eating breakfast and lunch here you don’t have to pay ahead of time, but we do request that you fill out a free and reduced meal form even if you don’t feel you will qualify you will still get a free activity pass for filling those out.”

There will be a lot of school district staff on hand to answer any questions you might have. “The school nurse will be here so if you have any health questions or immunization records, she will be available,” said Wahouske.

New families, school readiness, and kindergarten students can register, meet school personnel, and receive information about the school district.  “Any new student that comes to Crookston, whether you’re here from a different community or you are a new student going to school for the first time with preschool or kindergarten, we do request you bring in a birth certificate and immunization records so we can have that on file,” said Wahouske.

KROX will be broadcasting live from Back to School Registration Day with interviews from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
