The Crookston Pirate Girls Tennis team won a battle to beat the East Grand Forks Green Wave 4-3 in a Section 8A matchup played at the Crookston High School Tennis courts on Wednesday morning.
CROOKSTON VS East Grand Forks –
Crookston won two singles matches and two doubles matches to pick up the 4-3 victory. Winning at singles was Emelia Hoerner as she beat Madi Wallace 6-3, 6-3. At third singles, Crookston eighth grader Lauren Tull cruised to a 6-4, 6-1 victory.
The first doubles team of Emma LaPlante and Chloe Boll had a three-set battle with Morgan McDonald and Chloe Swendson. The Crookston duo lost the first set 6-4 before bouncing back to win the second set in a thrilling 7-5 victory to force a third set. The Pirates pulled away to win the set 6-3 to win the match. The fourth victory for the Pirates came at second doubles with Ava Martin and Logan Brekken cruising to a 6-2, 6-2 victory. Crookston lost two three set matches with one at fourth singles and the other at third singles.
Crookston improves to 2-2 on the year and will host the Crookston Invitational on Saturday at the tennis courts throughout town.
