Delmar Marvin Benesh, 94, passed away peacefully on August 20, 2025. Delmar was born July 8, 1931, to James and Helen (Davidson) Benesh in Pleasant View Township. After graduating from Ada High School in 1949, he farmed with his father.
In 1952, he enlisted in the Army serving in the Korean War where he was stationed in Germany as an MP. Delmar met Rose Stalboerger at a local basketball game, fell in love, and were married one year later. They both farmed in Pleasant View and Lockhart Townships where they raised four children. After retiring from farming, Delmar mowed several years for the Norman County Highway Department. Delmar was a member and commander of VFW Post 7557, clerk for Pleasant View Township, and Veterans Honor Guard.
Delmar was a devoted father and grandfather, he was immensely proud of the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren, especially in athletics. He hardly missed an opportunity to cheer them on. He remained a loyal Ada Viking/Ada-Borup Cougar fan until recent years.
Delmar will be remembered for his kind heart, gentle spirit, and simple joys. One of his favorite pastimes was driving around, taking in the sights and enjoying peaceful moments. He never passed up a good cup of coffee and a cookie or sweet treat to go with it.
Delmar is survived by three children, Kimberly (James) Krogstad, Ada, Dallas Benesh, Ada, and Sandra Gunderson, Ada; sister, JoAnn (Harold) Skauge, Ulen; 6 grandchildren, Heather (Paul) Brommenschenkel, Kristen (Zach) Poehler, Lauren (Jake) Zima, Brittany (Justin) Pavek, Corin (Lance) Bragstad, and Garrett (special friend Zoe Dauner) Gunderson; 13 great grandchildren, Brooke (Braeden) Mathern, Bailee Brommenschenkel, Jimi Brommenschenkel, Alex Poehler, Chase Poehler, Max Zima, Charlie Zima, Bode Zima, Tate Zima, Liam Pavek, Finley Pavek, Henry Bragstad, and Josephine Bragstad; and 2 great-great grandchildren, Jax Brommenschenkel, and Hudson Mathern.
Delmar was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Rose; daughter, Melissa; parents, James and Helen Benesh; sister, Betty Lou and brother-in-law Ray Vossen; sister, Delores “Dottie” and brother-in-law Howard Heitman; brother, Eugene Benesh, and brothers-in-law, Ervin, Donald, Wilfred, and John Jr. Stalboerger.
Mass of Christian Burial: 10:00 AM, Monday, August 25, 2025 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ada, MN.
Visitation: One hour before the service at the church. Interment with full military rites: Ada Municipal Cemetery, Ada, MN.
