Crookston Pirate Girls Tennis competes in Alexandria Quadrangular

The two-time defending Section 8A champion Pirate Girls Tennis team competed in the Alexandria Quadrangular on Friday, playing matches against Osakis, Alexandria and Detroit Lakes.

CROOKSTON VS OSAKIS –
Crookston was locked into a tight battle with Osakis to kick off the day, in a match that ended 4-3 in Crookston’s favor.
In first singles, Ashlyn Bailey had a tough match against Leah Maddock, who beat her 6-1, 6-0. Thankfully for Bailey, the rest of her singles teammates were ready to step up and pick up the slack in singles. Emma LaPlante put together a flawless stat sheet, shutting out Katie Collins 6-0, 6-0. Then, Emelia Hoerner bounced back after dropping the first set against Erika Baker, winning the second set 6-1 before winning the super tiebreak 10-6 to get the match victory. Lauren Tull played in fourth singles, and held a 5-1 lead before her opponent forfeited, giving Crookston the victory in three of the four singles matches.
In doubles, the first doubles pair of Ava Martin and Logan Brekken as well as the second doubles pair of Chloe Boll and Madelyn Anderson both played tight matches, but couldn’t handle the Osakis pressure and dropped those two matches. That meant that it all came down to the third doubles pair of Lucy Smith and Grace Boll, and they were locked in a tight one as well. After their first set win, Mataya Moore and Lexi Marsholer came back to win the second set, forcing a super tiebreak. Crookston won that 10-6, which ended up being the decider that put the Pirates in line to win by a score of 4-3.

CROOKSTON VS ALEXANDRIA –
The second match of the day for the Pirates was against Alexandria, and this one did not go as well, as Crookston lost by a score of 6 to 1.

None of the seven matches went into a tiebreak third set, so it ended up being a lot faster of a match. The only winner for the Pirates in this match was Emilia Hoerner, who won 7-6, 6-4 in second singles. The Pirates did not win more than three games in a set in the remaining six matches, as the power of Alexandria was just too much as they cruised to a 6-1 win.
