Crookston City Council approves Fit and Fin donation to the Crookston Community Pool

The Crookston City Council met on Monday, September 15, and had one item on the regular agenda: the approval of a donation from Fit and Fin to the Crookston Community Pool.

FIT AND FIN DONATION
The only item on the regular agenda was a $5,300 donation from Fit and Fin to be used for the Crookston Community Pool. Carol Greg of Fit and Fin, Marianne and Lucy Isaacs, and Katie, Warren, and Beau Proulx spoke to the council and thanked them for supporting the Crookston Community Pool.  “Lucy loves being in the pool. So she has been in swim lessons. She started last summer, and then we had that short shutdown there, August, September, and restarted. And she has been in every swim lesson session,” said Marianne Isaacs. “She’s even started with the swim club. So that started just this month. So it’s Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and they’re in the pool for an hour. And it’s run just like, almost like a swim team, but just endurance. And it’s a challenge, but I mean, she’s enjoying it and she’s loving it. And then they have swim lessons right after. She loves being in the pool, and she’s so thankful that she has this opportunity.”

Katie Proulx said the $5,300 was raised by 14 lemonade stands, each run by two or three families. “The fact that so many people were willing to put their time and money into supporting our pool is an indication of how much the young families of the city of Crookston value our pool,” said Katie Proulx. “We are so thankful this money will help to keep the pool running in the short term. But even more, we hope you will keep the community’s commitment and priorities in mind as you plan for the long term.”

$3,300 is going towards boiler repairs and $2,000 is going towards an inflatable volleyball court for the pool.

CONSENT AGENDA
The council unanimously approved the meeting minutes from September 2, bills and disbursements of $366,548.20, a special event permit for the University of Minnesota Crookston homecoming on October 4, and a lawful gambling permit application to the Crookston Firefighters Association at Drafts Sports Bar and Grill. The council also approved the appointment of Brian LaPlante and Joseph Shostell to the Crookston Economic and Development Authority.
