The UMC Women’s Soccer team couldn’t compete with the offense of the Augustana Vikings as they fell 5-1 on Sunday Afternoon on Youth Day at UMC.
FIRST HALF
The first half was starved for any shots in the first 10 minutes. Augustana got the first one, and it was saved by Payton King, one of her three saves in the first half. At 11:33, Kedin Geremiah took a shot that missed high to the left, and that would be the only shot UMC would get in the half. This would open the floodgates for Augustana; they would get three corner kicks in the next 15 minutes, and in the 28th minute, Audrey Parnell scored in her first minute on the field to give the Vikings a 1-0 lead. Then, in the 32nd minute, Ally Hamski converted on a penalty shot off of a Geremiah foul to go up 2-0. The offense died down from there, and UMC looked poised to take this deficit to half, but a breakaway goal by Avery Heinz in the final minutes gave Augustana a 3-0 lead into the break.
SECOND HALF
As the second half got started, UMC looked to get back in this game. Shots were few and far between, and after the 50th minute, Augustana subbed out everyone but the goaltender in one fell swoop. This discombobulation helped UMC, as Autumn Rabe delivered a goal to cut the lead down to 3-1. That, however, would be the final shot UMC would get in the half, and after the reset, Augustana was able to put the game on ice. Grace Katter would be the star, as she scored a brace to put the game away, giving the Vikings a 5-1 victory.
UMC drops to 1-3-1 on the season, and Augustana’s record is now 4-0-1.
