CHEDA approves authorization of the sale of 1402 Eickhoff Blvd.

The Crookston Housing and Economic Development Authority (CHEDA) had a special meeting this week to authorize the sale or disposal of property at 1402 Eickhoff Boulevard in Crookston. The buyers of the home hope to have the closing done in the next two to three weeks. KROX asked Crookston Housing Director Theresa Tahran what the purpose of the program that built the house is. “The reason for the program is to get houses built to increase the tax base in the city. Typically, we are basically going cost for cost. There typically is no profit,” said Tahran. “We just try to ensure that we get the money back that we’re spending on the house, including utilities. And we work with the contractor to recoup all the costs.”

CHEDA has built several houses, which they build and sell. They have four lots remaining. “We’ve done several of these houses, and that is what our intent is, just to increase the tax base and get some nicer homes ready for community members that would like to move out of their current homes, get a decent house,” said Tahran. “Then we get that stock ready for other families, maybe first-time homebuyers or something into the houses they’re moving out of.”
