The
SET ONE –
Set one began with both teams alternating points until UMC went on a mini run, as a Madison Carsten kill capped off a 4-1 run to take a 7-4 lead. However, Jamestown answered with a bang, going on a 6-0 run to take a 10-7 lead. From there, they did a good job of maintaining a multi-point lead, preventing UMC from tying the match whenever they got the opportunity. At 15-14 Jimmies, a couple errors from UMC sparked a 5-1 run to put Jamestown up 20-15. They held on to the 5-point advantage until 23-18, before the Golden Eagles went for a final flurry, scoring 4 in a row to cut the lead down to 1, but couldn’t get in front, as a service error ended their first set hopes, dropping the first set 25-23.
SET TWO-
Set two got off to a much better start for UMC, as they trailed very briefly before going on a 7-0 run to take a 10-5 lead. Carizma Muth was a star for UMC in this set, as she recorded 6 kills, including two in the run. UMC then played even with Jamestown, maintaining a multi-point lead consistently until the latter stages of the set. UMC got kills from Madison Carsten and Emma Malek to keep the lead, but at 21-17, Jamestown pulled off an act of grand larceny, as they surprised the Golden Eagles with an 8-2 run to steal the second set away, taking the second as they did the first by a score of 25-23, taking a 2 sets to none advantage.
