The Crookston School Board met on Monday and the meeting started off with a presentation from Anthony Morando, General Manager of Sanford Power and Dan Rooney (of Sanford Power, who is the school strength and conditioning coach in the mornings, after school and in the summer). Morando and Rooney gave a review of what Sanford Power has done in the first year of the contract. The current contract is up at the end of December and the renewal for 2026 would be $45,000. “I talked about Sanford Power, Sanford Sports, how it could be a great option for not only the athletes inside of Crookston High School, but also the students inside of Crookston High School. We have a lot of experience being in schools, and we just want to enhance the betterment of the student body in addition to athletics,” said Morando. “Numbers have increased significantly. I think training the human body is going to create a more sustainable and durable human being while they’re playing the sport or while they’re a student. And he’s (Rooney) done a great job with that. And we would like to continue that process in the Crookston community.” Working out has significant benefits for every students health and mental health. “Exercise is for everybody. And that’s our job is to create a healthier community,” said Morando. “I think it’s important to have a strength and conditioning coach inside of a school. It enhances the safety of the student athlete. It gives the school a chance to have a healthier student body, have a healthier faculty as well, because our teachers need to be healthy in order to be the best teacher possible for the students. So if everybody in the community can embrace fitness inside the school, it enhances the community inside the school.”
WORKER PAY SCHEDULE
The board approved the Activity Duty pay schedule. There were some minor changes, but the main reason for getting the pay schedule was to have it for future years. “There are some changes that were probably made in a couple of years past that we were unaware of. So I felt that the board should review this and make changes as they come about, so that everybody knows what the pay schedule will be,” said Bruer. “You know, from one game to two games to four to six games. Crookston’s pretty active, so we have something in place for that.”
