Former UMC Men’s Basketball Coach and current St. Michael-Albertville boys basketball coach Jeff Oseth, a seasoned and highly respected basketball coach with a career spanning over three decades, has been awarded the prestigious Coaching Service Award in recognition of his 30 years of dedication to the sport and his players.

Oseth continued his collegiate coaching journey at the University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC), where he worked with another Hall of Fame coach, Gary Senske. Under Senske’s mentorship, Oseth quickly established himself as a hardworking and impactful leader.

Oseth was named head coach of the Golden Eagles in 2002, leading UMC through a critical transition from NAIA to NCAA Division II. Under his leadership, the program reached new heights:

  • Secured his first college coaching win against the No. 5 ranked University of North Dakota.
  • Defeated seven nationally ranked top 10 teams during his tenure.
  • Recruited and developed 9 All-Conference players, 2 All-Americans, and 2 NSIC Freshmen of the Year.
  • Coached Joe Hasz, who became the NSIC’s all-time leading scorer.
  • Led UMC to 6th place finish in the ultra-competitive NSIC conference.
  • Oseth’s program had a 97% graduation rate.

In 2022, Oseth took over as head coach at St. Michael-Albertville High School (STMA). In just three seasons, he revitalized the program, leading the Knights to back-to-back appearances in the Section 8AAAA Championship Game — the first such appearances in over a decade. Under Oseth’s leadership:

  • STMA recorded its best-ever start for a new head coach in the 57-year history of the program.
  • Captured 1st and 2nd place finishes in Section 8AAAA.
  • Recorded the most wins for boys basketball in Lake Conference play in school history — widely regarded as the top boys basketball conference in Minnesota.
  • Help developed six players in three years who went on to play at the collegiate level.

Oseth’s long-standing commitment to excellence, player development, and competitive integrity has left a lasting mark on every program he’s led.

JOKES

After a rough day spent corralling my rowdy kids, I’d had enough.
“I think I’m going to sell them,” I hissed to my sister.
“You’re crazy,” she said.
“For thinking of selling them?”
“For thinking someone would buy them.”

A man and a woman who have never met before find themselves in the same sleeping carriage of a train. After the initial embarrassment they both go to sleep, the man on the top bunk, the woman on the lower.

In the middle of the night the man leans over, wakes the woman and says, “I’m sorry to bother you, but I’m awfully cold and I was wondering if you could possibly get me another blanket?”

The woman leans out and, with a glint in her eye, says, ” I have a better idea, just for tonight, let’s make pretend that we’re married.”

The man says happily, “OK!” AWESOME!”

The woman says, “GOOD ….get your own darn blanket!!!”

One night, a lady stumbled into the police station with a black eye. She claimed she heard a noise in her back yard and went to investigate. The next thing she knew, she was hit in the eye and knocked out cold.
An officer was sent to her house to investigate, and he returned 1-1/2 hours later with a black eye.
“Did you get hit by the same person?” his captain asked.
“No,” he replied. “I stepped on the same rake.”
