Crookston Leo Club and Police Department hosting the 38th annual Halloween Food Drive October 31

The Crookston Leo Club is teaming up with the Crookston Police Department for the 38th annual Halloween Food Drive tonight (Friday, October 31) from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the west parking lot at Crookston High School.

They invite everyone to stop by and donate non-perishable food items that will be given to the Care and Share Food Shelf.  A drive-thru will be set up in front of the main entrance at the high school to collect donations. “So when you come through, each person will receive a Halloween bag and, in that bag, will, of course, be candy. And then we also supply some safety materials that we have. And those safety materials range from bus safety, Halloween safety, to everything in between,” said Crookston High School Leo Club Advisor Linda Morgan. “And, you know, they’re really age-appropriate. We have safety materials that include color books and different things. And we’ll have some crayons and other trinkets in there along with the candy.”

If you cannot drive by, please call Linda at 281-2144 or Darin at 281-3111, and they will pick it up at your doorstep. Leo Club members, wearing buttons that say “Leo Club,” will also be trick-or-treating for canned goods in the community. “Leo’s go out and about in the community, and I give them all certain routes and we try to reach everybody as we can,” said Morgan. “And then we just collect canned goods or whatever goodies you want, and we collect it, and then we bring it to the Care and Share food shelf.”

Last year, they gave away 130 bags of candy and would like to break the record of 200 bags of candy they did a few years ago.

Crookston Police Chief Darin Selzler reminds everyone to be safe this Halloween and be on the lookout for trick-or-treaters. “So like always, we ask each motorist to take a little extra time, be cautious, especially if you have to back out of driveways or driving through neighborhoods,” said Selzler. “It can get hectic and a lot of kids running around. Sometimes those costumes obscure their view. So again, as a motorist, just take extra caution, take extra time.”
