Linus’s Legacy Animal Rescue will have a breakfast fundraiser at the Crookston Masonic Lodge on Sunday, November 16, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The Masonic Lodge is located at 112 West Robert Street. The breakfast will include waffles, French toast, gluten-free pancakes, and a beverage with a free-will offering.
Linus’s Legacy Secretary Lori Carlson said members of the board will be serving breakfast. “We’ll be at the Masonic Lodge from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM, and members of our board will be serving. So come and meet us or come say hello,” said Carlson. “Last time we were there, it turned out to be a great fundraiser for us. So we appreciate all the support.”
FOSTER-BASED RESCUE
The money from the breakfast fundraiser will help with the operations of the organization, which is a foster-based rescue, and every dollar makes a difference. “We are a foster-based rescue, meaning all our cats and dogs are in foster homes. Currently, we’re at our capacity limit. So if anyone’s interested, even if you have pets, sometimes it’s surprising how an older cat or dog really will tolerate a new cat coming in for just a little while,” said Carlson. “We’re looking for fosters almost all the time. We have the foster application also on our website (linusslegacyrescue.org). I think fostering brings a lot of joy and humor. It’s little kittens or puppies, and then they’re not yours forever, but you get to enjoy them for a while.”
They recently had a litter of puppies from Red Lake. “A few of those puppies were foster adopted, meaning their foster parents adopted them. So they were testing out fostering, and they were adopted. And they also just ended up falling in love with those dogs, too. And I’m one of them, too,” said Carlson. “We are so grateful to our fosters. We have many fosters right now, and we’re so grateful to them and all the love and care they’ve provided for the pets that we’ve adopted out and the pets we still have.”
DOGS AND KITTENS AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION
Linus’s Legacy currently has dogs and kittens available for adoption. “Everything is going really well. We have a few new fosters. We have quite a few kittens in our care, a few adult cats, a couple adoptable dogs,” said Cassandra Torkelson, board president. “We have a dog who is probably coming up on a year old soon. He recenlty injured himself while playing in the backyard and he required surgery to repair the laceration to his leg. We are trying to raise money through a GoFundMe to pay for his vet bill.”

If you are interested in adopting an animal, there are several ways you can let Linus’s Legacy know. “You can find our Facebook page. We have probably 650 followers now. Or our website is linusslegacyrescue.org. And that has the list of animals we have available for adoption. Or we have a few of our young kittens posted there,” said Carlson. “You can fill out adoption applications, even for the youngest kittens, right now. If you’re interested, we’ll take applications. And suppose a young kitten, for example, isn’t able to be adopted out this week because they need to put on a few more pounds, because we adopt them out only after they’ve been fixed, microchipped, and final vaccinations. In that case, you can still fill out an application for a certain kitty if you’re really drawn to one and we will hold your application and approve it across the board and just wait until the kitten is ready to go home with you.”
