The National Weather Service in Grand Forks, North Dakota, has issued a Winter Storm Warning for portions of northwest Minnesota and eastern North Dakota, including Crookston and the area from 6:00 a.m. Tuesday to 6:00 a.m. Wednesday.
The Winter Storm Warning includes the following Minnesota counties – Polk, Norman, Kittson, Marshall, Pennington, and Red Lake. The following North Dakota counties – Cavalier, Pembina, Ramsey, Walsh, Nelson, Grand Forks, Steele, and Traill.
Cities include – Crookston, Warren, Grand Forks, East Grand Forks, Devils Lake, Cavalier, Crookston, Finley, Ada, Hallock, Newfolden, Fosston, Lankin, Hillsboro, Mayville, Middle River, Drayton, Langdon, Halstad, Michigan, Red Lake Falls, Thief River Falls, and Grafton.
* WHAT…Heavy mixed precipitation and widespread blowing snow are expected. Total snow accumulations between 3 and 5 inches and ice accumulations around one-tenth of an inch. Winds gusting as high as 60 mph.
* WHEN…From 6 AM Tuesday to 6 AM CST Wednesday.
* IMPACTS…Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous. Whiteout conditions are expected and will make travel treacherous and potentially life-threatening.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…
Persons are urged to stay indoors until conditions improve. If you must go outside, dress in layers. Several layers of clothes will keep you warmer than a single heavy coat. Cover exposed skin to reduce your risk of frostbite or hypothermia. Gloves, a scarf, and a hat will keep you from losing your body heat.
Persons should consider delaying all travel. Motorists should use extreme caution if travel is absolutely necessary.
