Mark Patrick Altepeter – OBIT

With profound sadness, we share the unexpected and heartbreaking loss of Mark Patrick Altepeter, age 72, of Walker, Minnesota. On December 30, 2025, Mark tragically lost his life after stopping his vehicle and stepping out to assist a person in need—a final, selfless sacrifice perfectly embodying his generous spirit and lifelong kindness.

Born October 19th, 1953, in Crookston, Minnesota, Mark was the fourth of seven children raised by Eleanor and Raymond Altepeter in Euclid, Minnesota. Gifted with speed and athleticism, Mark could outrun anyone, but his devotion to the family farm always came first. He poured his energy and heart into the land and the people he cherished.
Mark’s optimism was unwavering, his smile infectious, and his dimples unforgettable. Hard work came naturally to him, and his strength and perseverance were matched by warmth and humor. Friends and family remember Mark as the coolest and funniest guy in any room—always ready with a story, a laugh, or a full-bodied hug. Conversations with Mark were easy; he made everyone feel welcome and valued.

In 1979, Mark met the love of his life, Cindy Schue, and they became inseparable from the very beginning. Their partnership, built on laughter, friendship, and unwavering devotion, formed the foundation of everything they created. They embraced every chapter side by side, enjoying winters in Mesa, Arizona, and farm seasons in Walker, Minnesota. Whether dancing, traveling, or simply running errands for groceries, every moment felt special when shared. A rare and beautiful connection defined their bond. Mark was a wonderful husband, and their adoration for each other was evident to all who knew them.

Family remained the center of Mark’s world. He embraced fatherhood wholeheartedly, becoming a proud “girl dad” to Tennille, JaNae, and Cetera. Mark was always present, playing Barbies, attending school events, and offering steady guidance. He celebrated every milestone and encouraged his daughters to pursue their dreams, instilling confidence and a deep sense of security. His love for his family was boundless, and he made sure his daughters felt treasured, uplifted, and deeply cherished every single day. He was their hero, protector, and the center of their world.

Grandfatherhood brought Mark, lovingly known as “Ba Ba,” immense joy. He treasured his time with Brece, Benz, and Laker, filling it with stories, laughter, and unconditional love. His playful spirit and gentle presence made him a beloved companion, and he took great pride in watching his grandchildren grow.

Mark is survived by his devoted wife, Cindy; his daughters, Tennille Altepeter, JaNae (Kelby) Teer, and Cetera (Barrett Taylor) Altepeter; his grandchildren, Brece and Benz Teer, and Laker Taylor; his siblings, Cy, Matt, Peggy, Philip, and Joe. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Marlene.

Mark’s legacy endures in the love, strength, and steadfast support he shared with everyone in his life. His absence leaves an unimaginable void, yet his spirit remains alive in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Celebrations of Life will be held in Mesa, Arizona, in the coming days and in Minnesota in the spring.
