EGF and Grand Forks Fire Departments report to two seperate fires over the weekend

RURAL EAST GRAND FORKS FIRE
A detached garage suffered significant damage at 13926 410th Ave SW in Sullivan Township, rural East Grand Forks.    Due to blizzard conditions, it took firefighters longer than normal to arrive on scene.  Fire crews found a 20×40 detached garage with heavy smoke coming from the eaves.  An aggressive fire attack was conducted, and the fire was reported under control within 15 minutes of arrival.

The fire department responded with two engines, a water tender, and 29 personnel.  We were assisted on scene by Altru Ambulance and Polk County Sheriff’s.  The fire caused significant damage to a portion of the garage with heavy smoke damage throughout.  There is an estimated $30,000 loss to the structure and its contents.

The cause of the fire was determined to be electrical in nature, igniting nearby combustibles. The East Grand Forks Fire Department would like to remind our citizens of the following fire safety tips:
• Store combustibles in an approved storage container.
• If a fire occurs, keep all outside doors to the structure closed.
• Avoid overloading electrical outlets and appliances.
