Gordon R Tiedeman of Walker passed away peacefully on February 27th, 2026, with his loving family spending his final days at his side.
Gordy was born the oldest child to George Lawrence Tiedeman and Helen Morrisey Tiedeman in 1946. He graduated from Crookston Cathedral High School and went on to graduate from Saint Mary’s college in 1968. While in college Gordy played hockey for all 4 years for Saint Mary’s
On April 14, 1969, Mary Mercil was united in Matrimony to Gordon Tiedeman at the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception. They moved to Norfolk Virginia for the next 4 years while Gordy Served our country in the Navy aboard the USS America in Vietnam and spent the balance of his tour running the Orthopedic Clinic at the Portsmouth Naval Hospital. Upon his honorable discharge they returned to Crookston to Farm and raised their children. In 2007 they moved to Walker MN (Leech- Lake) in retirement to permanently reside until their passing.
Gordy was very active in Youth Hockey while living in Crookston. He coached many youth teams with the goal of making the young men responsible, growing in integrity doing your best and most of all learning that winning was not always the goal.
He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, Knights of Columbus and served on the Crookston Park Board.
He was active helping organizations in Crookston with fundraising. He served on the Mount Saint Benedict Board of Directors and the Education Foundation. He also worked to ensure the Mount Saint Benedict Alzheimer’s had funding.
One of Gordy’s proudest moments during the year was serving as Santa Claus visiting the Villa, many homes and families who needed assistance.
Gordy is survived by his son, Chris (Angel), Blaine MN; grandchildren Jackson, Cody, Peyton, Aaron, Matthew, Owen and Noah; brother Dick Tiedeman Walker MN; and son-in-law Wade Demarais.
Gordy was preceded in death by his wife Mary of 50 years, his daughter Kari Demarais, parents George and Helen Tiedeman and Sister In-Law Michele Tiedeman, Daughter-in-law Sara; as well as aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services for Gordy will be held on Saturday April 18th at 11:00am at Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Crookston MN with visitation 1 hour prior to the service. A visitation will be held on Friday April 17th from 5:30-7:00pm with a prayer service following.
Internment with Veteran’s honors following the funeral at Calvary Cemetery, proceeded by lunch and fellowship back at Cathedral.
