The Fin and Fit group will host its third annual Pool-A-Thon fundraiser at the Crookston Community Pool on Saturday, April 11. There will be two main events this year with a co-ed water volleyball tournament and free open swimming from 1:00 to 4:30 p.m.
The addition of water volleyball comes after the addition of the water volleyball “court” to the pool. “We are including a water volleyball tournament as part of the activities, because we have a water volleyball game in the pool, and partly to bring in some people who may think about swimming at the pool, but not doing other kinds of activities,” said Fin and Fits Carol Gregg. “So this is a great opportunity for another type of pool activity.”
There will be two water volleyball divisions: Competitive and recreational. There will be six players per team with prizes for first and second place in each division. The entry fee is $20 per person and sponsors are welcome. To register, call or text Jo at 218-280-6615.
There will also be free open swimming from 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. “We have a free open swim and that is sponsored by Tom and Vivian Hall in honor of the disabled veterans. So we’re really grateful to them for that support,” said Gregg, who added they will have a concession stand from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. “We’ll also be offering food through the day. In the morning we’ll have coffee and muffins and then in the afternoon we have a hot dog basket, so you know how hungry you get when you swim well, we’ve got the solution for that too.”
The Pool-A-Thon fundraiser is to support new accessible entry doors, to allow everyone a chance to swim regardless of mobility. Gregg added the event’s main purpose is to pack the pool and a day of fun, “We just would love to see that pool packed. Last year at the pool-a-thon, we had super response to the open swim and lots of kids there and lots of people having fun, and that is the whole idea,”
